How to change the temperature sensor in a washing machine?

How to change the temperature sensor in a washing machineEach element of the washing machine plays an important role in its proper operation. Thus, the temperature sensor is responsible for heating the water to the desired temperature, and also prevents its overheating by turning off the devices necessary for this. If a problem occurs with these functions, the temperature sensor in the washing machine must be replaced. It's quite easy to do it yourself.

Testing and changing the element

In order to check the temperature sensor, you need to disassemble the washing machine and remove the device from its body. This is the only way to easily test it. In most cases, the temperature sensor is located directly under the laundry tub, so getting to it is not difficult. You need to remove the part as follows:

  • remove several bolts on the back cover of the washing machine and open it;
  • remove the wires that connect the sensor to the control board. To properly return all wiring and devices to their place, it is better to photograph or mark them;
  • Carefully, slightly rocking from side to side, remove the thermistor. This can be hindered by limescale deposits, which you can try to get rid of by using a syringe to inject a small amount of dishwashing detergent into the crack. The element will work better with lubrication.checking the NTC temperature sensor

After the device is removed, you need to check it with a multimeter and also measure the resistance. To do this you need to do the following:

  • attach the probes to the contacts on the device. At a temperature of 20 degrees, the readings will be 6000 Ohms;
  • Place the element in hot water to warm it up. Take it out and repeat the measurements.We monitor how the indicators on the device change. At a temperature of 50 degrees, the sensor should show 1350 Ohms.

If the indicators differ from those listed above, then the sensor is most likely faulty and should be replaced. The device cannot be repaired, so you should not try to disassemble it. You should select a heat sensor that is suitable for your washing machine model and install it again.

Gas-filled sensor

In order to dismantle the freon sensor with your own hands, you will need to remove the back cover from the machine, as well as remove the front panel on which the control unit is located. Only in this way will access to the part be ensured. Next you need to do the following:

  • we find the wiring, which is located in the back of the case;
  • carefully tighten the insulation;
  • Using a thin spike, we pick up the seal that wraps around the copper tube and remove it;
  • Lightly pressing down on the base of the element, remove it from the groove.
  • There is a special hole made in the laundry tub through which you can get the part and remove the wire from it.replacing a gas sensor

After this, you can begin checking the functionality of the device. The main cause of failure is the failure of the freon tube. This leads to gas leakage, causing the element to cease to cope with its task. Traces of leakage can be detected upon inspection.

If a problem is detected, replace the temperature sensor with a new one equipped with a switch.

Bimetal sensor

This type of sensor also requires free access to the tank. After the machine body is disassembled, you should disconnect the wires from the thermostat and check the resistance using a tester. Afterwards you need to warm up the sensor and observe changes in indicators.

If the fluctuations are insignificant, you will have to change the temperature sensor. The most common cause of such a breakdown is wear of the plate.
