How to replace the heating element on a Candy washing machine
If the Kandy washing machine does not heat the water, then most likely the heating element is broken. This breakdown is preceded by various errors that appear on the display, as well as poor heating. Often the user ignores such warnings, and this leads to dire consequences. If you need to replace the heating element on your washing machine, you need to decide something in the near future.
Repairing washing equipment is quite a complex task and not everyone can cope with it. Is it possible to carry it out yourself or do you need to call a specialist? It depends on how well the person understands such repairs? Let's take a closer look at this type of breakdown.
Let's start with preparation
In order to replace a broken heating element in washing machines of this type, you do not need a large set of professional tools. The quality of the heating device will also not play much of a role. The main thing is that the new part fits perfectly with washing equipment and is inexpensive.
First you need to decide which heating element model is installed in the washing machine. It’s good if you were able to examine the inscriptions and symbols on it and rewrite them. If some numbers and letters are not visible, then it is best to take the broken part with you to the store. In the absence of such a possibility, the most important thing is to determine the power of the heating element. Typically, Kandy machines use heating devices with a power of 1850 W, but some models have heating elements that are more powerful.
You can purchase a heating device without leaving your home. Nowadays, many online stores sell spare parts for washing equipment, and it is very easy to find the necessary part.The average cost of such a product will be around $10. For repairs you will need the following tools:
- ratchet with 8 head;
- a pair of screwdrivers (phillips and flat);
- multimeter;
- lubricant (any kind will do).
Why does it break and where is the part located?
The heating element in the Kandy machine, as in many other washing machines, is located below the tank. You can get to it only by removing the back wall of the body of our washing machine. To do this, the equipment must be disconnected from the communications and turned towards you with the back wall. Having removed the cover, you can already see the element you are looking for, but it is difficult to get to it due to the drive belt, so for ease of operation it is better to remove it.
It is impossible to confuse the heating element with another part, even though it is hidden in the washing drum. It is located exactly in the center of the bottom of the drum and a significant number of wires are connected to it. This is the first thing that catches your eye when you open the back wall of the washing equipment case.
Heating elements of such washing machines are not uncommon. You can purchase them quite easily in almost all stores. Difficulties may arise when carrying out work to replace it. The main reasons for failure of the heating element of a Kandy washing machine are:
- sudden changes in voltage in the electrical network;
- incorrect operation of the thermistor;
- malfunctions in the operation of the control module;
- heavily polluted or hard water;
- water getting on the contacts;
- user error;
- manufacturing defects.
Also, the heating element may break due to a more significant breakdown of the washing equipment, for example, due to incorrect operation of the control module. In this case, simply replacing the part will not bring the desired result.
If you suspect that the failure occurred specifically because of the module, it is best to contact a professional technician.
Repair instructions
The very first thing you need to do is make sure that the washing equipment is disconnected from the power supply. Next, you need to close the inlet valve and, if possible, drain the remaining water. When the machine is tilted, it can get on parts, but this cannot be allowed.
The remaining water is drained through the filter. To do this, you need to open the bottom hatch, unscrew the filter and wait until all the water flows out. Don’t forget about the water container, which needs to be prepared in advance and placed under the bottom hatch.
Before removing the heating element from the washing machine, you must remove the back wall. To do this, unscrew the bolts located around the perimeter of the rear panel. The wall is lifted up a little and removed.
When access is open, you can begin dismantling and subsequent installation of the heating element in a Kandy brand washing machine. The part is located under the tank, and its seat has a round shape. First you need to: disconnect the power wires, check for damage using a multimeter.
A multimeter measures resistance and this is the mode that needs to be set on it. Next, probes are applied to the contacts and the device produces values. A working heating element should produce a resistance in the range from 20 to 30 Ohms.
The heating element is securely fixed using a pressure plate. In order to remove the heating element, you need to almost completely unscrew the central nut (there is no need to remove it). The bolt must be pushed inward, and the base must be carefully pryed off with a screwdriver.
When dismantling, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the seal. It is strictly forbidden to damage it, otherwise it will leak water.
After dismantling is completed, it is necessary to carefully inspect the mounting socket.It must be smooth and clean, and therefore dirt and debris must be removed. Due to improper installation, the washing machine may break down. How to install a heating element?
- The nut must be slightly screwed onto the heater bolt.
- Lubricate the heating element seal for easy seating.
- Carefully install the device into the hole.
- Securely secure with a clamping nut.
- Connect the wires.
At the end of the work, it is necessary to check whether there are any leaks and whether the heating element heats the water. To do this, you need to run a test wash with a temperature of at least 50 degrees. If everything is in order, then you can safely use the machine.
