How to replace the pressure switch in a washing machine?

Sometimes it becomes necessary to replace the pressure switch in a washing machine. The failure of a structural element is indicated by an insufficient supply of fluid to the tank or an excessive amount of it. The device cannot function for a long time with such a problem. A corresponding error will appear on the display, and the equipment will stop working until the problem is completely eliminated. Self-repair is not difficult, especially if you know all the nuances of replacing a part and follow the sequence of actions.

Where is the part located and how can I find a replacement?

The pressure switch looks like a “tablet”. It is located under the top panel of the machine. A tube extends from the body of the element, which connects it to the tank. The greater the volume of liquid the equipment collects, the higher the pressure in the hose. As a result, one of the contacts closes, and a signal is sent to turn off the water intake valve.

You can select a suitable pressure switch by its serial number and the model of the washing machine. The easiest way is to get a water level sensor and take it with you to the store; you need to show the part to the seller, and he will select the same or an alternative option. Failures in the water intake and drainage system indicate a failure of the pressure sensor:

• the liquid is collected until a leak or overflow occurs;
• waste water does not leave the tank;
• The main wash cycle runs as normal, but the rinse process does not start;
• an error appears on the display;
• The wash cycle starts although the liquid does not reach the required level.

All of the listed “symptoms” indicate a malfunction of the pressure switch. First, the element is dismantled. Afterwards, diagnostics and replacement are carried out with your own hands.

Let's change the relay

Replacement does not require many tools, just a short tube and a screwdriver. First of all, the washing machine must be disconnected from the power supply (the plug should be removed from the socket). Then the water supply valve is closed.

It is necessary to unscrew the bolts that hold the top cover of the device. The panel is moved back and removed from the body part. A pressure sensor will be visible on the side wall. How to dismantle it?

• Unscrew the fastening bolt if the part is attached in this way. If there are latches, you need to turn the element clockwise and wait for the mechanism to release.
• Unfasten the wires.
• Disconnect the hose. You need to carefully inspect it and make sure there is no blockage. Often the tube becomes clogged with debris, so the relay may give incorrect readings.
• Inspect the element body. There should be no damage to the surface.
• Diagnose the pressure sensor. Before replacing, it is recommended to connect a hose with the same diameter instead of the pressure tube and blow into it. If the contacts are closed, characteristic clicks will be heard. If there are no sounds, you can conclude that the part is broken.
• Take a photo of the device in order to remember the location of the wiring and connectors of the pressure switch.

Important! You can check the serviceability of the pressure sensor using a multimeter connected to the relay contacts (if the readings on the screen do not change, the pressure switch is broken).

After dismantling, you need to prepare a new working sensor and install it in place, secure it with bolts. Then the wires are connected.The hose is put in place and secured with clamps. The lid should not be put back in place yet. It is recommended to run a short wash cycle. If water fills and drains normally, it was possible to replace the water level sensor without error.

When operating a washing machine, you should periodically clean the inlet hose from accumulated debris and rust. For prevention purposes, it is better to install filters. This way, small particles coming from the water supply will not clog the parts of household appliances.
