How to change a bearing in an Electrolux top-loading washing machine
No one is immune from damage to bearings, neither the owners of household appliances with vertical loading of laundry, nor the owners of “home assistants” with a front-loading type. At the same time, replacing a bearing in an Electrolux top-loading washing machine takes little time and is accessible even to users who have never encountered repairing household appliances before. Let's look at how to quickly restore such a washing machine with a damaged bearing using a minimal set of tools.
Is it really the caliper?
First of all, you should make sure that the bearings in the device really need to be changed - this will allow you to avoid wasting time disassembling the device. This can be understood by a number of signs that are unusual for a working machine. Here's what housewives should pay attention to.
- The appearance of brown spots and streaks on washed clothes, which appear due to grease leaking from the bearing.
- Loud noise during washing, uncharacteristic knocking and grinding noises when spinning clothes.
- Excessive vibration during operation, which increases due to the resulting play in the bearing.
- The drive belt breaks or regularly flies out of place, which happens due to deformation of the bearing assembly.
Under no circumstances delay replacing the damaged element, otherwise you risk the washing machine cross, the replacement of which will be much more expensive and difficult.
It is very convenient that in Electrolux top-loading washing machines it is much easier to change the bearings than in front-loading devices. This is due to the fact that such SMs do not need to be completely disassembled in order to then divide the tank into two halves to replace the bearings. In this case, it is enough just to dismantle the side panels and remove several elements to gain free access to the bearing assembly. Then you just need to remove the old bearing, carefully clean the place where it is installed and install a new spare part.

Do not rush to call the repair service if the bearings begin to fail. It’s easy to fix this problem yourself and thus save your family budget. To restore the unit, you don’t even need professional equipment - you just need to find a screwdriver or screwdriver, a socket wrench and a special tool for dismantling the bearing.
During work, be sure to take safety precautions. That is why the first step is to disconnect the Electrolux washing machine from all communications, and also remove the drain and inlet hoses. Next, the device needs to be moved away from the wall so that it is convenient to work with it. Only after this can you begin to replace the unit.
- Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, remove all retaining bolts from the housing walls.
- Move aside the side panels CM.
- Remove the drive belt from the pulley.
- Using a socket wrench, remove the pulley bolt.
- Remove the drum pulley from the axle.
- Remove the bolt securing the axle to the bearing on the other side of the washing tub.
- Remove all bolts holding the counterweight in place.
- Remove the weight block from the washer tub.
- Loosen the bearing using a special tool that looks like the image above.
In a situation where the bearing does not yield, you need to treat it with WD-40 technical lubricant and wait a while.
- Remove the part along with the old sealing rubber.
- Clean the seat thoroughly using a sponge with soapy water or a damp cloth.
- Carefully clean all elements from plaque and rust that may have formed over time.
- Treat the groove with a special technical lubricant, which can be found complete with the new bearing, but do not skimp on the product.
- Install the oil seal on the shaft so that the rubber seal fits securely into place and does not allow liquid to pass through.
- Place the bearing and secure it with the special wrench.
- Also secure the bearing mounting bolt in place.
- Screw the grounding screw.
- Replace the drum pulley, counterweight, drive belt, and motor pulley.
At this stage, all you have to do is assemble the washing machine according to our instructions in reverse order. After completing the assembly, you need to make sure that the machine is working properly. This can be done using an idle work cycle. While working, pay close attention to any extraneous sounds. If the Electrolux washing machine completes operation without leaks or other abnormal situations, then the repair has been completed successfully.
In a situation where your drive belt often falls out of place, you need to change not only the bearings, but also the belt. This is due to the fact that a belt stretched during active use will continue to fall off after replacing the bearing, so it is better not to delay replacing this element.
It is better to buy spare parts from official representatives of the brand in order to purchase an original element that will definitely suit your “home assistant” and will last a long time. And in order not to make a mistake in choosing a part, you need to either rewrite the serial number of your automatic SM model, or take the damaged part with you to the store as an example.
In fact, replacing a bearing assembly in a top-loading machine takes less than an hour. In this case, you do not need special knowledge or experience, you just need to carefully read our manual and clearly repeat point by point.
