How to replace a Zanussi washing machine pump
In a Zanussi washing machine, the pump performs one of the main functions. It pumps water out of the tank when the machine's operation is completed. Therefore, the slightest malfunction will immediately change the quality of your washing: water will remain in the washing machine after the end of the process, which will not allow you to remove the laundry from the drum. In such a case, you need to know how you can replace the pump of your Zanussi washing machine and return your laundry to excellent quality. After reading our article, replacing the drain pump with your own hands will not seem like an impossible task.
Let's get ready for work
First, you should think about whether you are going to replace the pump on your Zanussi washing machine yourself or with the help of a specialist. Obviously, the master will make the replacement quickly and efficiently, but his work will cost some money.
If you want to make the replacement yourself, you will only spend money on a new pump, but the repair will take more time than if a professional did it.
In order to make the repair yourself, you will need the following tools: a screwdriver, a set of screwdrivers, pliers and a multimeter in case you need to check the pump. For work, you need to find a suitable place, since the washing unit will have to be disassembled, and it is unlikely to be possible to do this at the installation site. Therefore, it is better to drag the machine to the middle of the room or to some large room (a garage, for example), having first disconnected it from the power supply, sewerage and water supply.
We will make a replacement
The location of the part is different for some Zanussi models. Therefore, the repair of one or another device will be carried out somewhat differently. Let's figure out what to do if the pump of your machine is located on the back wall.
- First, pump out all the water from the washing machine by placing the drain hose on the floor and placing a container under it. This way, all the water will come out of the machine by gravity without any additional effort on your part.
- When the job is done, you can remove the back wall. To do this, unscrew the screws that hold it in place, and also remove the intake valve casing so that there are no problems with detaching the rear wall.
- Now you can remove the wall itself.
- Now you can interact with the contents of your device without any problems. Before removing the pump, do a few preparatory steps. Carefully disconnect the pump power wire and remove the entire volute (be careful not to damage it). When removing the snail, do not remove the pipes from it; this is not necessary for further work.
- Next, you can remove the pump itself by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. Be sure to remember the location of the part! Also, before installing a new pump, wipe its seat. The less dirty it is, the more firmly the new device will hold on.
- It's time to install a new part. To do this, install it on special skids and push it inside the unit until it clicks.
- Now connect the machine to the power supply and water supply and carry out a test run of the washing machine, which does not have to be a long one. Your job is to make sure that water flows into and out of the tank without problems. If everything goes well, then you did everything right.
- When you are sure that everything works, you can install the back wall, mount the exhaust valve casing and put the washer in place.
In some Zanussi models, the pump is built into the bottom of the washing machine, so you will have to get it out through the bottom. Let's figure out how to do this:
- To begin, again using a drain hose placed on the floor, pump out the water from the unit.
- Place the washer horizontally, with the drum facing up, so that you can easily work with the bottom of the machine.
- Unscrew the bottom wall so that you can interact with the contents of the device. On the right side inside, locate and remove the pump, and then remove it from the washing machine.
- Now take a new part. Insert the new pump in place of the previous one and push it a little inward until it clicks so that it fits securely (do not forget that the pump seat should be as clean as possible). When everything is ready, connect the power cord to the pump.
- To carry out testing, you need to screw the bottom cover of the machine back and place the unit in a vertical position again. When everything is ready, run a test wash.
- If water intake and pumping are carried out without problems, then you did everything right.
In fact, replacing the pump in a Zanussi washing machine does not require a huge investment of time and effort, so with due care and attention, you can do the repair yourself. However, if you doubt yourself and your abilities, it is better to consult a specialist.
