How to change the pump of an Electrolux washing machine?
In a washing unit, the pump has one of the most basic functions. After the equipment is completed, it pumps out dirty, used water. Even a small malfunction of the pump will immediately affect the quality of the wash - either there will be liquid left in the tank, or the laundry will be too wet. This problem can only be solved by replacing the pump of the Electrolux washing machine. And our article will help you dismantle the old drain pump and install a new one.
Think it through and get ready
You should definitely decide whether you will carry out the manipulation yourself or contact a specialist. A specialist will carry out repairs efficiently and quickly, but his services will have a certain cost. If you decide to work with your own hands, you will only spend money on the pump, but it will take a lot of time. Before replacing the pump, you also need to rule out other faults. Typically, if the pump breaks down, the washing machine:
- does not drain water at the end of the working cycle;
- makes a lot of noise when draining;
- may stop in the middle of operation without draining the water.
For repairs you will need: screwdrivers, pliers (for removing clamps), a screwdriver, a multimeter. A multimeter is needed to check the functionality of the pump. To do this, the tester probes are applied to the contacts and the resistance is measured. If you find a malfunction, then the pump definitely needs to be replaced.
Attention! A new pump will cost you $7-10.
Find a suitable place for manipulation, since the washing machine will need to be disassembled, and in cramped conditions, especially in the bathroom, this is very problematic. It is better to move the unit to a larger room.First disconnect the washing machine from the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks.
Part replacement features
Different models of Electrolux washing machines differ in their design, including the location of the pump. Accordingly, the plan for dismantling the equipment will depend on this. The location of the pump can be clarified in the technical documentation. Let's look at the procedure if the pump is located on the rear panel:
- place the drain hose in a large container (the water from the washing machine will flow out on its own if there is no elbow);
- remove the back wall: unscrew the fastening screws holding it, remove the filling valve casing;
- remove the panel itself;
- remember or photograph the location of the elements.
Before removing the pump, disconnect the wire and unscrew the pump volute screws (this must be done carefully so as not to damage the element). Dismantle the volute along with the pipes; there is no need to remove them. After this, feel free to remove the pump, having first removed the fasteners. The pump is disconnected from the cochlea with a slight rotation. Before changing the pump, thoroughly clean the seat of dirt so that the mechanism holds as firmly as possible.
When purchasing, be sure to take into account the technical characteristics and appearance of the old part (the location of the fasteners and protrusions must match).
The new pump is placed on the grooves of the volute and shifted to the left until it stops until a click appears. Now you can connect the washing machine to the communications and run a test wash without laundry in fast mode. It is important to ensure that there are no leaks and that water flows and drains freely. If everything is fine, we assemble the equipment in the reverse order.
If the pump is located at the bottom of the device, then it is removed through the bottom.First, also use a drain hose placed in a container or on the floor to pump out the remaining liquid inside. Place the machine in a horizontal position by placing it on its left side. Unscrew the bottom panel, revealing access to the contents of the case. The pump is located on the right, find it and remove it from the unit in the manner described above.
The purchased part is inserted until it clicks, having cleaned the seat in advance. Then the power cord is connected to the pump. Before testing the machine, be sure to screw the bottom and return it to its original position. Only after this will it be possible to start the wash. If water flows in and out without problems, everything is done correctly.
Replacing the pump in Electrolux machines does not require much effort, so with due care you can change the part very quickly. But if you have doubts that you can perform this procedure yourself, it is better to contact a specialist. And remember - the drain pump is a technically important component in the unit, so the manufacturer provides it with a service life of at least 8-10 years. Whether it will last this period or not largely depends on the operating conditions.
