How to replace the cuff on a Beko washing machine?
If handled carelessly, the hatch seal may be damaged. Such a problem cannot be left unattended. A deformed seal can lead to leakage, so action must be taken immediately. We will figure out how to replace the door cuff on a Beko washing machine, what tools will be needed during the work process, and where to start the repair.
It is important to choose the right cuff
First, you should purchase a replacement rubber hatch seal. A win-win option is to remove the old cuff and go to the store with it. The manager will select a part similar to the dismantled one. It’s even easier to find the article number (license plate) on the rubber band and give it to the sales consultant.
In addition, the serial number of the Beko model can also serve as a guide. The markings for washing machines of this brand are applied to a label glued above the hatch. It is advisable to photograph the entire sticker so that, if necessary, you can tell the store the year of manufacture, the model, and the code of the washer.
In addition to the new rubber band, you will need a couple more tools. This is a minus screwdriver and pliers. Soap and a soft sponge will also come in handy during the work. At this point, the preparatory stage will end, and it will be possible to begin repairing the equipment.
We remove the unusable part
Simply pulling it out of the drum and putting a new seal in place will not work. The hatch door cuff is fixed with an external and internal clamp, which must be loosened during dismantling. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- feel for the outer plastic clamp;
- pry the “spring” of the ring with a screwdriver, pull it to the side and remove. It is important here not to stretch the clamp;
- On Beko front cameras, the front wall is removable. For ease of work, it is recommended to disconnect the lower false panel and remove it from body of the powder receiver, unscrew the bolts securing the “front” of the machine. Next, you need to carefully pull off the wall (the UBL wire will be connected to it) and place it next to the equipment;
- use a screwdriver to pry up the inner clamp exactly as you did the first one;
- pull the elastic towards you, gradually pulling it out of the grooves.
After this, you can carefully examine the cuff, look for defects and cracks on the surface. Having found out the cause of its damage, you should try to prevent a recurrence in the future and continue to use the machine carefully.
Pull the cuff
Putting on the rubber seal is somewhat more difficult than removing it. It will take some effort to insert the elements into the grooves. Detailed instructions for installing a new cuff:
- Clean the seat using soap and a sponge. There is no need to try to completely wash off the foam; on the contrary, it will make it easier to install the elastic;
- find the mounting marks on the seal, align them with the markings in the housing;
Holes for draining water should be located strictly at the bottom.
- place the cuff in the groove and pull it in a circle with your thumbs;
- insert the clamp into the groove, holding it with one hand, tuck it around the entire circumference;
- place the front wall, secure it with self-tapping screws;
- install the previously removed false panel;
- straighten the cuff, insert the outer clamp into the groove with the “spring” down. Gently pull the ring around the perimeter. If the lock is screw-type, you can first loosen it and then secure it in the body.
Next, it remains to check how well the rubber seal of the hatch is installed. The cuff should fit snugly against the body and drum.At the end, you should start the “idle” mode on the washing machine, for example, “Rinse” and observe the operation of the machine. If nothing leaks, the repair was completed successfully.
Why did the part fail?
Although replacing the cuff on a Beko washing machine is not difficult, and this job is easy to do yourself, it is still better to avoid damaging the elastic band. If you do not find out the cause of the damage and do not reconsider your actions, you will have to regularly change the seal. That is why it is recommended to inspect the dismantled element and find out what led to its deformation.
The cuff has its own wear period, and it is up to the user to prevent the process of its deterioration from accelerating.
The reason for premature failure of the rubber seal of the hatch may be:
- careless replacement. It is very easy to pierce the cuff with a screwdriver during the installation process, so you should tighten it and put the clamps in place with extreme caution;
- aggressive household chemicals poured into the machine. Some gels, bleaches, and powders contain unsafe components that have a detrimental effect on the seal;
- friction. If you overload the washing machine, the laundry will rub against the cuff with greater force, and sharp parts on the clothing can damage the gasket;
- damage from foreign objects. A bra bone caught in the drum will easily pierce the elastic band. Keys, coins, hairpins, etc., forgotten in pockets can also cause harm. Heavy shoes spinning in the drum also worsen the condition of the gasket;
- user carelessness. Often the rubber suffers from careless insertion and removal of laundry from the machine;
- fungal deposits, mold. If you do not wipe the cuff dry after washing, do not ventilate and dry the machine, harmful microorganisms will settle on the seal. Such plaque will subsequently “eat away” the structure of the rubber.
If you follow the basic recommendations and handle the washer with care, you can delay the removal of the sealing collar for a long time. However, if you notice obvious signs of a leaking hatch, you shouldn’t be upset - removing the gasket and installing a new one is not so difficult. The repair will take literally half an hour. The main thing when replacing is to strictly follow the instructions and act carefully.
