How to change the motor of a Bosch washing machine?
When a Bosch washing machine refuses to work, you will have to conduct a thorough diagnosis and decide on possible repairs. Anything can fail - belt, electronics, engine, etc. The motor is the most difficult part to repair, so if it malfunctions, it is better to contact a professional. If the owner of the washing machine wants to replace the motor with his own hands, our instructions will help him. The main thing is to do everything as carefully as possible and according to the recommendations.
Removing and checking the engine
The first step is to carry out a diagnosis; for this you will need to study in detail the structure of the Bosch washing machine motor. It has a commutator type engine, which is small in size and has fairly high power. The rotation process is started by a drive belt connecting the washer drum pulley.
If we talk about the internal structure of the motor, it consists of several elements: a rotor, a stator and two electric brushes. The speed is regulated by a special sensor located on top. Technicians check the “iron heart” of a Bosch washing machine using different methods. But to get started, you need to remove the engine from the housing:
- remove the back wall by first unscrewing the bolts;
- loosen and remove the drive belt, while rotating the drum pulley;
- disconnect the wiring going to the washing machine motor;
- unscrew the bolts and carefully remove the engine by rocking it from side to side.
Important! If you do not have experience in replacing the engine with your own hands, take a photo of exactly how the wires go, this will help you accurately put the part in place.
After removing the washing machine motor, you can begin to diagnose it. To do this, connect the wires from the stator and rotor windings. Then give them a voltage of 220 Volts. If rotation occurs, we can conclude that the cause of the breakdown is not in the engine, because it is working properly.
This verification scheme has certain disadvantages. In particular, the diagnosis will be incomplete, because in fact the Bosch washing machine operates in different modes, and not just one. In addition, the motor may overheat due to the fact that it is connected directly to the network, which will lead to a short circuit. To reduce the risk, it is better to include the heating element from the machine in the circuit, thereby protecting the engine during testing.
We make a replacement
If the motor winding is broken or other parts are damaged, you will have to replace the motor completely. It's much easier and more economical than repairing an old engine. How to change it yourself? To do this, you need to purchase a new motor for your Bosch washing machine. It must be fully operational and ready for use.
The installation process is similar to the instructions above:
- install the motor in place and secure it with bolts;
- connect the wiring (if you previously photographed the location of the wires, use this picture to avoid mistakes);
- Replace the drum pulley drive belt and tighten it;
- Install the back panel of the washer, screw in the bolts.
After replacing the motor, you can test run the Bosch washing machine. If you changed the motor correctly, no problems will arise. Otherwise, it is better to contact a technician.
