How to change shock absorbers on an LG washing machine?
Everyone knows that washing machines experience centrifugal force, which creates powerful vibrations during the washing process and, especially, spinning. In order to soften the “shaking”, the creators of the SM came up with special shock absorbers. Without them, not a single machine will start spinning, since this is unsafe for its internal structure. If a malfunction suddenly appears, an error immediately appears on the display, and then it is necessary to replace the shock absorbers in the LG washing machine; it’s good that you can do this yourself.
Instructions for replacing dampers
Shock absorbers fail primarily due to drum overload. If you regularly throw 7 kg of laundry into the machine instead of 5, then the dampers will fly away not in 10 years, but much sooner. By the way, this approach can lead to damage to other parts.
Before dismantling the SM and changing the shock absorbers, you need to disconnect the washing machine from the water supply and power supply networks. Now remove the baseboard panel to drain the water from the filter and place a container underneath it. The filter plug is unscrewed counterclockwise. Next, you will have to remove the top panel, as well as either the rear wall, or the front, or the bottom, depending on which shock absorber needs to be changed.
- Unscrew the screws on the top cover and the back panel, and then remove them.
- Now move to the front wall. First, remove the powder receptacle, then remove the control panel, placing it in a secluded place.
- Next, lift the hatch cuff, feel for the clamp and disconnect it. After this, bend the cuff further into the hatch.
- Remove the front panel, disconnect the interlock wiring.
- Reach under the tank and feel for the shock absorbers. The dampers are attached either to the bottom of the body or to the side; remove the mount.
- Then try moving the part. If it moves easily, then repair is needed.
Attention! Dampers can only be replaced in pairs!
You can get the part by unscrewing the top latch. To do this, take a 13 mm screwdriver and unscrew the screw. Now the shock absorber will be removed without any problems. By the way, when buying a new spare part, contact the LG company store so that the element fits perfectly into place and works without interruptions. If what you need is not in stock, order through the same store, the product should arrive within a week.
All that remains is to install the new product. To do this, insert the gasket into the special damper spring. Then install the part itself. Secure everything with the same screwdriver and the same bolt.
Changing hanging elements
The springs are located in the upper part of the SM. Their purpose is to keep the tank from hitting the top wall. Thanks to these elements, the tank is in a suspended position. Springs can also fail, and their serviceability is easy to check. To do this, press firmly on the tank and release. If it jumps up sharply and hits the top panel, then the springs are not doing their job. Replacing them is quite simple:
- remove the top panel;
- place a block under the tank, since it is held only by springs, and they will have to be removed;
- Now simply disconnect the springs from the tank and from the body, to which they are attached with hooks.
After replacement, perform the same steps in reverse order. The necessary products can be purchased at the LG store.Unlike shock absorbers, springs can be replaced individually, and breakdowns with them occur much less frequently than with dampers.
