Is it possible to pour hot water into an automatic washing machine?

Is it possible to pour hot water into an automatic washing machine? When connecting a washing machine, some housewives have a question: what if you connect the equipment directly to the hot water supply? Will there be a saving in electricity that the machine spends on heating? And is it possible to pour hot water into the washing machine when the cold water is turned off? On the Internet you can find recommendations prohibiting the use of already heated water in the washing machine. Let's figure out whether hot water is really dangerous for equipment or is it just a myth.

Is hot water dangerous for the machine?

Contrary to popular belief, you can use hot water in your washing machine. It definitely won’t harm the equipment, because its composition is not much different from cold water. Let's see what is the reason for the ban on connecting the machine to a hot pipe. And what of this is outright nonsense, and what is worth listening to.

  1. Hot water is considered harder and more contaminated than cold water. Because of this, the filter allegedly becomes clogged, which leads to a decrease in the quality of the wash. In fact, the requirements for water are the same, so when it reaches the consumer, there is not much difference. Water from a hot pipe is even better for washing than cold water.

Hot water is softer than cold water because some of the salts have been removed from it due to heating and the addition of a softener on the heat exchanger.

  1. Washing powder works worse in hot water. Laundry detergents are designed for the maximum temperature used in a washing machine - 95 C. If the composition contains bioadditives, then the heating mode is set to 70 C.But water from a hot water tap does not reach such marks, which means that detergents will work normally when used. Of course, there are powders that are used at 40 C or 50 C, but they are recommended to be used only on certain washing modes.
  2. Some types of stains set in hot water, such as blood stains. So there is no need to put such things in the washing machine. First wash them in cold water, and then put them in the washing machine.
blood stains may dry out immediately
  3. When rinsing in hot water, powder remains on the fabric. If you think so, then set the rinse mode to cold water only.
  4. Delicate materials may be damaged when washed at high temperatures. There is some truth in this statement. If you need to wash silk or chiffon items, do it manually or select a special program.

The main concern of equipment owners is whether the parts of the washing machine will be damaged by using hot water. If you have a modern washing machine installed, all its elements are designed to operate at water temperatures up to 95 C. Even cold water hoses can withstand temperatures up to 60 C. So, highly heated liquid will definitely not harm them.

Will connecting to hot water save money?

Let's look at one more statement - using hot water helps save electricity, because the machine does not have to use a heating element. If you don't have a water meter, this option can really save you some money. You still pay for water according to the tariff.

Particular savings will result if you have a gas boiler installed to heat water.Warm or hot liquid can be poured into the washing machine without wasting electricity. Even if you have a gas meter it will be cheaper. The same applies to private houses that have their own heating system.

will it be possible to save money?

There will be no savings if you have hot water meters installed. Especially if you have to pass the liquid for several minutes to achieve a more or less high temperature. This type of machine washing will not reduce utility costs at all, but will even increase the amount on the receipt.
