Inserting a washing machine drain into a plastic pipe
To safely and easily remove waste from the washing machine into the sewer pipe, the drain hose must be securely inserted into it. As a rule, the wiring of the water supply system in residential buildings provides for one exit from the sewer pipe in the kitchen and in the bathroom. These outlets are for sink siphons. There is a need to additionally embed the washing machine drain into a plastic pipe.
How to reliably “crash” into a sewer?
Connecting the machine drain to the sewer system directly is the best option. The connection method depends on whether there is an additional branch on the pipe for draining. If, when installing the sewer system, it was planned in advance how the waste water would be discharged, connecting the drain is simple. You need to purchase a rubber O-ring. The further algorithm of actions is as follows:
- remove the plug from the sewer branch;
- Apply silicone grease along the outer radius of the sealing ring and insert it into the sewer pipe;
- Insert the washing machine drain hose inside the central hole in the o-ring. Make sure that it is immersed in the branch no more than 5 cm.
If there is no additional drain branch in the pipe, you can use a plastic tee. Sewer lines leading to the bathroom or kitchen usually have a diameter of 50 mm. The tee can be installed on them yourself. You should start by determining the insertion location. Then you need to proceed as follows:
- disconnect the siphon pipe;
- remove the old pipe;
- change the rubber gasket;
- install a plastic tee instead of a pipe, and then install a drain from the siphon.
After completing these steps, you can begin installing the washing machine drain. You must be guided by the algorithm described above. You will need to buy an O-ring and connect the drain hose through the central hole in it.
The nuances of connecting the machine to the sewer
Experts share professional tips that will help you properly organize waste water disposal. The SM hose cannot be left on the floor, in other words, the hose should not lie flat on the floor. Most washing machines are equipped with a special hook for the hose at the point where it exits the appliance. The part is usually located on the rear panel of the case, in its upper corner. From the hook, the drain hose is directed to the point of insertion into the sewer with a significant bend.
The second tip that experts share concerns the requirement for washing machines that are not equipped with a non-return valve. The edge of the hose should always remain higher than 50 cm above the floor.
Important! This condition must be met regardless of whether it is embedded in the sewer or thrown over the edge of the bathroom.
Many modern washing machine models are equipped with a check valve. If this part is not included at the factory, it can be purchased and installed separately. There are various models on sale, but it is better to choose valves with a shut-off ball. These are the parts that are usually used when a drain is inserted directly into a sewer.
There are also devices that can be used to mount the drain next to the siphon. In this case, the edge of the hose can be located at any height. You can connect to the sewer system at the floor.
Technicians are dispelling the common misconception that securing the hose in an S shape eliminates the need for a check valve. This creates an additional water seal. It does not interfere with water drainage, but also does not protect the washing machine from damage.
