Can I wash it overnight in a washing machine?
Nowadays, when people spend from morning to night at work, and daytime tariffs for water and electricity are incredibly expensive, night washing seems almost the only way out. I put the accumulated laundry in the machine, started the delay, and in the morning I took out the already washed clothes from the hatch - beauty! But is it legal to wash clothes in a washing machine at night? After all, it creates noise that can disturb neighbors, and this, as we know, can lead to certain problems.
Are you allowed to do laundry at night?
At first glance, this question seems stupid, because why then introduce night tariffs for the operation of electrical appliances if you cannot use them at night? The thing is that power grids are extremely overloaded in the morning and daytime hours, and in order to reduce the load and make their work more uniform, the state introduced night tariffs in order to encourage people to use electrical appliances at night, at least partially.
Attention! Night rates differ significantly from day rates (depending on the region, one and a half to three times), so there is something to compete for.
However, in reality everything turns out to be not so simple. If you start delving into this issue via the Internet, you can find many stories about how neighbors who did laundry at night were brought to administrative responsibility for “disturbing the peace and quiet of citizens.” This led to fines and, of course, further inability to use washing machines at night.
For example, in the Vologda region, a citizen decided to do laundry only twice at night. The first time I received a warning for doing laundry from half-past twelve to two in the morning, the second time, for doing laundry from half-past eleven to two in the morning I received a fine of $5. And all because his neighbor allegedly couldn’t sleep because of the running machine, recorded the noise and even called the police. Unpleasant situation.
This is not the only case; the urgency of the problem of night washing is difficult to exaggerate. For violating the peace and quiet of citizens, you can receive a fine from $5 to $20. Of course, many will think that it is easier to pay $5 more for the tariff than to face police squads, make trouble with neighbors and end up paying the same amount, or even more, in fines.
However, how illegal is washing at night? After all, neither the laws on administrative violations nor the notorious Law on Silence in force in Moscow say a word about the fact that it is prohibited to turn on the washing machine at night. Indeed, the only thing specified in the Law is that noise should not exceed 45 decibels. At the same time, as it turned out, a crying child or a running hair dryer sound much louder than a washing machine.
The washing machine makes a sound of 60 decibels if you stand close to it. And in the next apartment the volume of the sound of a working unit will not reach 45 decibels. Perhaps it is the level of vibration that has such an irritating effect on people, but not a word is said about this anywhere, so there is nothing to attract anyone for.
Thus, if in a dispute with neighbors you use excerpts from the law, you can calmly defend your right to do laundry at night: even if someone very stubborn decides to call Rospotrebnadzor and measure the noise level, the truth will be on the higher side. To restrict washing at night, you need to pass a law specifically prohibiting it.While there is no such law, washing clothes at night in a washing machine is completely legal.
How to set a delayed start for night washing?
Don't know if your SM has a timer? Look at the instructions, which list all the functions of the unit, or carefully inspect the control panel. Do you see something that looks like a dial or watch? This is the delay function. It starts like this:
- Load the laundry into the drum and close the hatch door;
- pour the powder or pour the cleaning gel into the dispenser;
- select the desired mode and, if necessary, adjust it by changing the temperature, spin, etc.;
- find the same button with the dial and press it several times, while simultaneously observing the information on the display.
Pressing the key adjusts the delay time. Timers of different SMs are designed differently. Sometimes the numbers 5:00 on the display mean that in 5 hours the program will only be activated. Sometimes the same value indicates that the mode will end in 5 hours.
After setting the delay time, you need to press the “Start” key. Once you do this, the display will show a countdown until the program starts or ends.
If you decide to cancel the timer, press the Start/Stop button and then press the dial button until the numbers disappear from the screen.
