Washing corduroy trousers in the washing machine
Corduroy trousers are practical, warm and comfortable to wear, but they are also a pleasure to clean. Corduroy is considered a finicky delicate material, and improper washing of the item will result in damage to the fabric, discoloration and shrinkage. Expensive pants will lose their original appearance and properties. But everything is not so scary: you can wash corduroy trousers in a washing machine and by hand. The main thing is to observe several important nuances.
Prepare your pants in advance
First of all, corduroy pants need to be prepared for the upcoming procedure - clean them of dust, threads, lint, hair and other adhering debris. First, gently shake the trousers, and then go over the fabric with a clothes brush or a special roller with a sticky base.. If the latter device is not available, you can replace it with a homemade alternative: wide tape. Consistently glue the tape to the fabric and remove it along with the debris.
If there are heavy stains on the trousers, they must be washed before washing. We proceed like this:
- we select a suitable cleaner (it is better to find a stain remover for delicate fabrics, without bleaching and alkaline components, but laundry soap will also work);
- according to the instructions, dose the product or dilute a warm soap solution;
- dip a soft sponge or brush in a solution with the product and treat the stain;
- if necessary, leave the product to “work” for a certain time;
- rinse or immediately send for further washing.
Do not rub corduroy too hard - the pile may be damaged. It is necessary to act as gently as possible and move in the direction of the stripes. Squeezing wet areas is also prohibited.
Will a machine gun ruin corduroy trousers?
It is recommended to wash corduroy only by hand, as the material is capricious and requires the most careful cleaning. Machine washable, but at the user's own risk. Although the likelihood of tissue damage will be low if you organize the process taking into account the following nuances:
- the mode can only be selected “Delicate” or “Manual”;
- spin is turned off or set to minimum;
- a softener for tap water is added (special product or baking soda);
- only liquid detergents with a gentle composition are used, without aggressive components, bleaches and alkalis;
- the water heating temperature should not exceed 30 degrees;
- automatic drying is prohibited.
Corduroy is not recommended to be washed in an automatic machine.
Another must when washing corduroy trousers is to avoid conditioner. It is better to add 5-6 tablespoons of 9% table vinegar to the central compartment of the powder receptacle instead of rinse aid at the rinsing stage.
Wash in the traditional way
Corduroy pants need to be washed carefully, so hand cleaning is the best option. This way the housewife has complete control over the process, will not allow excessive friction and will reduce the spin cycle to a minimum. How does hand washing work?
- The basin is filled with warm water (up to 30-40 degrees).
- The detergent dissolves in water (ideally a gel for delicate fabrics or laundry soap).
- Pants are immersed in the soapy solution.
- Rub heavily soiled areas with a soft sponge or brush.
You cannot rub corduroy with your hands - only with a soft sponge or clothes brush!
- Rinse items in warm water until the detergent comes out of the fabric.
When rinsing, it is recommended to add 3-4 tablespoons of acetic acid to the water, which will gently soften the material, lift the pile and protect the color of the fabric from washing out. Before rinsing your pants, it is better to turn them inside out to protect the wool from rubbing off. You cannot wring out corduroy - you need to let the water drain, and then immediately send it to dry.
If the pants are very dirty
If there is not just one stain on the trousers, but several and very complex ones, then local treatment with a stain remover will not do the trick. The pants will have to be soaked in a soap solution with added cleaner, leaving for 20-30 minutes. You cannot exceed the upper limit - corduroy deteriorates from prolonged exposure to water.
If the stains do not disappear after 30 minutes of soaking, then you need to repeat the procedure. Fill the basin with warm water and add ammonia to it at the rate of 3-4 drops per 5 liters. Then lower the pants and leave for 10-15 minutes. Then the product is sent for hand or machine washing.
Removing moisture from things
After washing, still wet corduroy pants are sent to dry. Trousers Can be dried vertically or horizontally. In the first case, special trouser holders or a clothesline are used, and in the second, a floor dryer, table or floor is used. Everything happens as naturally as possible; a ventilated, shaded place in the open air is chosen. It is prohibited to use a hairdryer, fan, heater or hot iron when drying corduroy.
Corduroy items are dried only naturally, without hair dryers, fans or heaters.
To speed up the drying process, it is recommended to use the terry towel method. You must first spread it or any thick, dry cloth, and place the wet pants on top.Next, everything is wrapped in a “roll” and pressed several times. When the “shell” gets wet, it is replaced with a new one. This trick will help absorb moisture from corduroy faster. Then the trousers are shaken off and sent for further drying.
