Spray arms do not spin in dishwasher
There is a misconception among users that dishwasher sprinklers are activated by motors that spin the elements, causing the dishes to be treated with water. In fact, rotation occurs due to the water pressure created by the circulation pump. The pressure in the system acts on the impellers, causing them to begin to move. Accordingly, when the pressure weakens, the spray arms do not rotate in the dishwasher. We will consider below what actions to take to troubleshoot problems.
Let's prepare well first
The reason why impellers stop is not always a breakdown in the system. Often this can be caused by a simple blockage. But in any case, you will have to “climb” into the body of the dishwasher, for which you may need the following devices and tools:
- Phillips and slotted screwdrivers;
- pliers (useful for loosening clamps);
- multimeter (for diagnostic testing of parts).
Afterwards, you need to start preparing the PMM itself. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- turn off the power to the equipment;
- disconnect the device from the house networks;
- close the shut-off valve;
- disconnect the inlet hose, drain the remaining water from it into a previously prepared container;
- unfasten the drain hose and at the same time inspect its cavity for blockages;
- Attach the hose to the back wall with special fasteners.
So that nothing distracts you from the work process, allocate a place in advance for repairing the machine. It is best to place the equipment in the center of the room to ensure easy access to the unit.
Let's check for blockages
Often the sprinklers in the dishwasher do not spin due to blockages in the waste liquid drainage system. The first thing you need to do is clean the drain and inspect the pump impeller.
Before starting work, make sure that there is no liquid left in the dishwasher tank; if there is any, remove the water using the drain hose.
To gain access to the impeller, you must:
- remove all baskets and containers for dishes from the washing chamber;
- Unscrew the drain filter located at the bottom of the dishwasher;
- underneath you can find a protective mesh, which also needs to be removed and washed thoroughly;
- use a sponge to remove all water accumulated in the hole;
- remove the protective cover by pulling it towards you.
Work on disassembling and cleaning the drain system should be done with protective gloves, since blockages are often formed from fragments of broken dishes.
After completing all the steps, access to the pump impeller will be gained. You need to insert your hand into the opened hole and remove all accumulated debris. Once the blockage is cleared, the impeller will begin to rotate again.
Repair of circulation pump and pump
If usually cleaning the drain system solved the problem, but this time such measures were not successful, you should inspect the pump that creates the pressure and the pump. The first thing you need to do is get to the pump.
- Carefully remove the sprayer.
- Using a screwdriver, unscrew the bolts located on the bottom.
- Cover the floor with an old towel or blanket.
- Place the machine on its side.
- Remove the bottom of the dishwasher.
- When attaching the float to the pan, disconnect the sensor wiring;
- Pull out the motor wiring contacts.
On the side you can find a drainage pump.Remove it from its seat and clear the mounting area of debris. Then diagnose the pump using a tester. If the multimeter confirms the failure of the part, you will have to install a new one. Then you should connect all the chips and wires in the reverse order. This will complete the replacement.
Another reason why the sprinklers do not spin may be a breakdown of the circulation pump. Repair work in this case will also not be very complicated. If the motor hums, the dishwasher does not turn off, and the impellers do not rotate, the problem is definitely in the motor. The procedure for diagnosing and replacing an element, if necessary, with a serviceable one, includes the following steps:
- loosen the pipe clamps;
- disconnect the connectors powering the part;
- use a screwdriver to release the latches;
- carefully unscrew the fixing screw;
- release the fastenings of the other pipes and move them aside;
- remove the motor from the housing and test it with a multimeter;
- If a malfunction is detected, install a new motor.
When installing a working engine, carefully ensure that all bushings are accurately seated.
To minimize breakdowns in the system, promptly clean hoses and other elements of debris. Work to restore the movement of sprinklers falls into the category of medium complexity, so it can easily be done independently.
