How to determine the year of manufacture of a Bosch washing machine?
The need to find out the year of manufacture of a Bosch washing machine often arises several years after purchasing the equipment. By that time, the technical passport is lost, the data is forgotten, and the information on the case is irretrievably erased. There is only one hope left - the FD number. Using the FD number, the manufacturer encrypts information about the release and assembly of the machine. To find out the manufacturing date, factory code and other important details, it is enough to “read” the combination correctly.
Deciphering the FD number
FD is an abbreviation for “Factory Date”, which literally translates as “factory date”. The number is a combination of four digits that indicate the decade, year and month of manufacture of the washing machine model. In more detail, the numbers are encrypted like this:
- the first digit reflects the decade (options 0 and 5-9 are possible, where “9” means the years from 2010 to 2019, “0” means from 2020 to 2029, “8” means from 2000 to 2009, “7” means 1990-1999, under “6” – 1980-1989, under “5” – 1970-1979);
- the second digit is the year in the decade (if “3”, then the third, etc.);
- the two extreme digits are the month according to the serial number of the year (for example, “08” means that the washing machine was released in August).
The FD number encrypts the production date of the washing machine - month, year and decade.
Accordingly, the Bosch washing machine with FD number 8412 was released from the factory in December 2009, and the machine with FD number 9809 was released in September 2018. The factory code of the newest equipment will start with “0”, and the oldest one will have “5” or “6” in front. In a similar way, you can determine the Factory Date for washing machines of the Siemens and Gaggenau brands.
Where to look for FD number?
The FD number is indicated on the information sheet, which is stuck on the back wall of the Bosch washing machine. Usually the sticker is located in the upper central part of the case, a little less often it moves to the right corner. Also, the assembly date and serial code of the model are also duplicated on a sticker placed on the inside of the loading hatch of the machine. It is important that the information on both labels matches completely.
To determine the code, just look at any of the stickers and find the letters “FD”. Then we find 4 more numbers nearby - this will be the Factory Date.
The FD code should be distinguished from the model, product and serial number of the equipment - these are different combinations. The first one starts with "E-Nr." and more often consists of several Latin letters and numbers. As a rule, it is necessary to obtain information about the device and maintenance when contacting service centers. Second or “Z-Nr.” – a six-digit sequence, which is deciphered as follows:
- the first digit is the assembly line code;
- the remaining five digits indicate how many washing machines were produced in the month on the assembly line.
The serial number of a Bosch washing machine encrypts the factory and manufacturer code, the year and month of production, as well as the serial number of the model on the assembly line and a checksum.
The serial number includes parts of the FD code and Z-Nr., and also tells the user the plant identifier, manufacturer and checksum. Thus, the combination controls the correctness of the specified information about the model, acting as additional protection against factory errors and counterfeiting. There are 18 digits in total, their decoding is as follows:
- the first two digits are the individual plant code (for example, the Bosch plant in Poland has the code “41”, in the USA – “85”, and in Russia – “88”);
- the next three are the year and month of issue;
- the next 7 numbers are the manufacturer’s internal code;
- then 5 digits - the number of the washing machine (what number the machine came off the assembly line);
- the last digit is a check digit (it is used to check the entire serial number).
The production date of the washing machine can be found out not only from the technical data sheet, but also through the FD code on the factory stickers. Additionally, you can find out other information about the washing machine: from the country of assembly to the assembly line number.
