How to install a Miele dishwasher
In order for a dishwasher to serve for a long time, you need not only to choose a suitable model and use it carefully, without violating the operating rules, but also to install the equipment in accordance with all the manufacturer’s recommendations. That is why the installation of a Miele dishwasher must be done either by service center specialists or independently, but according to these detailed instructions.
Before installing the PMM
Today we will look at dishwashers that can be installed in a kitchen niche. In total they come in two different types.
- Fully built-in, on which a furniture façade is installed so that the appliances look like an ordinary kitchen cabinet.
- Partially built-in, when neither the door nor the control panel is hidden by the facade, so the machine stands out from the overall kitchen design.
Before buying and connecting a PMM, it is very important to calculate the dimensions of the niche and select a suitable device. The Miele brand provides customers with the following choices:
- the smallest PMM is 81 centimeters high and 45 wide;
- middle model - the height is still 81 centimeters, but the width is already 60;
- finally, the largest model reaches a height of 85 centimeters and a width of 60.
Be sure to take into account the presence of a gap between the walls of the niche - 2 centimeters from the dishwasher.
To avoid getting into an unpleasant situation, be sure to take all the necessary measurements of the kitchen cabinet with your own hands before going to the store, for which you only need an ordinary tape measure. Immediately after purchase, study the installation plan and operating instructions provided by the manufacturer to avoid installation errors and use of household appliances.
We'll collect everything you need
A brand new “home assistant” has been purchased and transported home, it’s time to install and connect it. To do this you will need the following tools and materials:
- regular minus and hex screwdrivers;
- drill or screwdriver, which will fit a 20 mm drill bit;
- ordinary scissors;
- a simple pencil;
- FUM tape;
- roulette;
- building level;
- In special cases, an electric jigsaw may be needed.
When installing a dishwasher, there are a number of important nuances that should be taken into account. This list includes the following:
- the location of cold and hot water pipes, as well as how close the sewer is. The convenient location of communications greatly simplifies the installation of equipment with your own hands;
- proximity of the outlet to the PMM. This is a very important point, because energy-consuming equipment such as a dishwasher should not be connected to the mains via an extension cord.
Of course, you cannot begin installing electrical equipment without first turning off the electricity, as well as shutting off the water supply to the riser.
Installing a dishwasher in a niche
Let's get down to the most important thing - installing a Miele dishwasher. To do this, you must strictly follow the instructions.
- Install the PMM near the niche to make it more convenient to connect the device.
- Prepare the niche and fasteners as indicated in the installation plan.
- Connection to the water supply and sewerage directly depends on the type of dishwasher, since some models should be connected only to cold water, and some to both cold and hot water at once. Depending on the features of the unit, connect the water intake hoses to the water supply.
Remember that the permitted range of water supplied to the dishwasher is from 50 to 1000 kilopascals.
- Now connect the drain to the sewer.
- Carefully install the unit into the niche prepared for it.
- If you purchased a fully built-in machine, then attach the front panel.
The instructions are relevant for situations where the house has a shut-off valve with a ¾ size external thread. If you do not have a ¾ shut-off valve, you will have to call a specialist with permission for this type of work, who will additionally be able to install a pressure reducing valve if the maximum permissible pressure in your water supply system is exceeded.
The most common “mistakes” of beginners
Despite the fact that it is quite easy to install the machine yourself if you strictly follow the instructions, beginners still often make serious mistakes. To prevent this from happening, we have prepared a number of tips on how to properly install a Miele dishwasher.
- Do not use a screwdriver to fix screws or screws. This is faster and easier, but excess energy from the device can lead to damage not only to the fastener itself, but also to the facade. Therefore, use only safe screwdrivers.
- Make sure that the sewer drain is no more than 1-1.5 meters, otherwise there will be a risk of waste liquid stagnating in places where flexible wiring sag.
- Do not block the outlet with your dishwasher, as you should always have quick access to the machine's power plug.
- Do not install the outlet lower than 25 centimeters from the floor level. This is necessary for the correct operation of the Miele WaterProof function, which protects equipment from leaks. When the outlet is located at a height, there is no risk of moisture entering as a result of flooding or a system break.
- Do not buy third-party corrugated drain hoses, as dirt particles often accumulate in their folds. It is best to use original parts and elements for PMM, which are provided by the brand manufacturer of household appliances.
- Avoid kinks in the hoses, excessive tension, and squeezing.
- Do not shorten the inlet hose, as this element in the Miele PMM has a live electrical cable. Damage to it can be extremely dangerous not only for the “home assistant”, but also for you.
- It is not advisable to place the dishwasher next to an oven or any heating appliance, as this will cause the equipment to overheat.
- Never use an extension cord or multiple outlets, as this may cause cable overload and even cause a fire. For the dishwasher, it is recommended to install a separate outlet with grounding and protection from moisture.
- Immediately after installation, check the tightness of the connections, for which you need to slowly open the water tap and monitor the absence of leaks.
This is a basic, but far from complete list of problems that can arise as a result of improper installation. Therefore, if you doubt your abilities, it is always better to call a specialist who will independently install the Miele PMM.
