How to install a Geyser filter for a washing machine?
Tap water is rarely clean and of normal hardness. More often it contains salts and technical additives, calcium, chlorine and magnesium, as well as sand, pieces of rust and other debris. But if the liquid from the tap is filtered for drinking, then many people forget about the washing machine, risking its “health”. Manufacturers recommend additional purification of the water entering the machine. An excellent option would be to install a Geyser filter.
How to screw the filter?
To install a Geyser filter on a water pipe, you do not have to be a professional plumber. Anyone can handle the installation - the procedure will require a minimum of skills and tools. All you have to do is buy a filter cassette, take an adjustable wrench and follow the given instructions. The filter is mounted as follows:
- the water supply tap to the room is turned off;
- unscrew the union nut of the machine's inlet hose from the water pipe;
- The Geyser is connected to the freed branch of the riser by screwing it clockwise;
- an inlet hose is screwed to the other end of the installed filter;
- the reliability of fixation is checked.
The threads on Geyser brand filters completely coincide with the similar “threads” on most washing machines, which makes installation of the product easier.
All! All that remains is to turn the water valve and check the system for leaks. If there are no drops or smudges at the joints, then everything is done correctly.
A distinctive feature of Geyser technical filters is their simple connection.The ¾ threads present on them completely replicate the edges on factory washing hoses and centralized water pipes, which makes screwing in easy and durable. If the machine provides a standard connector, then there will be no problems or difficulties with installing the cassette.
Why install it?
Hard water most often leads to premature failure of the washing machine. The explanation is simple - the impurities contained in it, sand and other suspended particles enter the machine, settling on the filter nozzles and elements of the washing machine. As a result, blockages occur, the pump becomes clogged, the quality of the wash deteriorates, the heating element overheats and breaks.
All this significantly reduces the trouble-free service life of the machine. The solution will be to further purify hard and dirty water using special filters. So, connecting to the Geyser washing machine will solve several problems at once:
- the heating element, pump, filter nozzles and equipment pipes will be protected from scale;
- electricity consumption will be reduced (the heating element will not have to spend more trying to heat the scale layer);
- the consumption of detergents will be reduced (in hard water, powders dissolve and wash less easily, which entails an increase in their dosage during washing);
- the service life of the equipment will be extended;
- the quality of washing will improve.
Using a filter will protect the washing machine from scale, extend the life of the equipment, improve the quality of washing and reduce energy consumption.
When using filters, there is no need to add special detergents and softeners, which will save money and improve the quality of washing. The sodium polyphosphate included in the cleaning composition of the cassette binds iron dissolved in water, preventing the appearance of yellow stains and an unpleasant “metallic” smell on the laundry. Also, in soft and clean water, the fabric will be rinsed better and the risk of allergic reactions will be reduced.
How is it built?
To truly appreciate the effectiveness of the filter, it is worth considering its design and operating principle. Thus, the polyphosphate Geyser for washing machines, dishwashers, dryers and other large household appliances has a simple design. The element consists of three main parts:
- body – transparent or white plastic;
- input and output connectors – located on the cover and “bottom”;
- filter media – polyphosphate backfill or foamed polypropylene granules.
Thanks to the transparent body, you can constantly assess the condition of the water supplied to the washing machine and monitor the condition of the cassette. If the polyphosphate dissolves by more than half, then you should replace the filler or purchase a new cartridge. Replacement backfill is purchased separately.
Filter attachments for washing machines purify water only for economic and technical needs - other cassettes and systems are needed for drinking!
It is worth understanding that the Geyser filter for household appliances is used only for technical purposes - for washing clothes, washing dishes and hands. It is forbidden to drink such water - after polyphosphate or polypropylene “treatment” it loses its original structure. For food needs, other cassettes and systems of this brand are required.
The filter is a separate cartridge.Its shelf life and other important performance characteristics are necessarily given in the attached instructions or technical data sheet. It is recommended that you read the papers before installation to ensure that you can use the cassette correctly.
Types of filter elements
A number of filter attachments and systems are produced under the Geyser brand: for drinking water, household purposes and for protecting equipment from scale. Washing machines are often equipped with two filters – “1P” and “1PF”. Let's look at what these cassettes are and how they differ.
- Geyser "1P". This filter cleans water from foreign salts, dirt, litter, sand and silty substances. The cassette is installed on the cold riser connector and is suitable for any household appliance: both washing machines and dishwashers. Processing is carried out with a special cartridge filled with foamed propylene granules. Due to the porosity of 5 microns, the backfill retains all impurities present in the liquid, protecting the machine from plaque and contamination. The nozzle is designed for pressure up to 25-30 amperes, which allows it to be used on highways with almost any pressure. The downside is that if the element becomes clogged, it is not cleaned but replaced with a new one.
- Geyser "1PF". Designed to remove salts from tap water, which become the main cause of scale on the heating elements of washing machines. It is a transparent nozzle with a cover and two fittings for connecting to the main line. Purification occurs due to the polyphosphate filler - during a chemical reaction, the impurities present in the liquid are completely neutralized. Loading one filter on average is designed for 365 washes, after which the case needs to be opened and crystals added.
The technical filter element “Geyser 1PF” is designed for 300-370 washes.
Which filter to choose for an automatic machine is up to each user to decide for himself. Both cartridges are available, easy to use, relatively inexpensive and highly effective. According to consumer reviews, the entire Geyser brand line offers the best price-quality ratio.
To completely protect the washer from hard water, it is recommended to screw in two filters at once. This move will allow you to avoid the deposition of scale, plaque and dirt on the components of the machine, increasing the service life of the equipment and improving the quality of washing.
