Noise level in dishwashers
Many housewives are sure that dishwashers operate quietly, that there is simply nothing to make noise inside them. It’s a different matter than an automatic washing machine with its rotating drum and centrifugal force, which presses on the walls of the body, rocking it. Indeed, the automatic washing machine is the “record holder” among household appliances in terms of noise emitted, but the dishwasher is not far behind. On average, it is quieter than a washing machine, but even the noise level of a dishwasher may seem enough to make you angry.
Today we decided to pay special attention to the dishwasher’s ability to make noise. We will focus on determining the noise level of the machine by the user already at the moment when it is on the counter in the store. We will also review the quietest machines on the market. Do not miss.
Determining the noise of the dishwasher
The main question of our publication today: how to choose a low-noise dishwasher? Indeed, when we go to a household appliance store and choose a dishwasher, we are dealing with models that are disconnected from all communications. How can we understand which model makes more noise and which one makes less noise, since we can’t listen to them?
We have no other choice but to rely on the data that is available in the technical data sheet of the dishwasher. In this document, the noise level emitted by a dishwasher is expressed in decibels (dB). But it is quite difficult for the average person to navigate these meanings. For example, if the passport says that the machine produces 50 dB, what does this mean, what noise level are we talking about?
Experts advise comparing noise levels with familiar sounds. This makes it easier to navigate. Let's give examples.
- The rustle of tree leaves is no more than 10 dB, a light sound.
- Whisper – no more than 20 dB, light sound.
- Quiet conversation - about 35 dB, light noise.
- Quiet conversation – about 45 dB, medium noise.
- Loud speech – 60-70 dB, the sound is above average.
- Heavy traffic highway – 85 dB, loud noise.
- Screaming - an average of 90 dB, loud noise.
- Working drill (distance 2 m) – average 140 dB, very loud noise.
Compare the indicators recorded in the dishwasher's passport with the indicators of familiar sounds and you will understand how noisy the equipment is.
For a dishwasher, the norm is noise not exceeding 60 dB, but in our opinion, these standards are outdated today. Many modern models do not produce more than 50 dB, but it is better to look for machines that make noise at a level of 45-40 dB. Do such models exist? Yes, as much as you like, and now you will see for yourself.
Review of the quietest machines
Now let's list the quietest dishwashers that, among other things, have good characteristics. And most importantly, they always wash dishes well. Largely thanks to advertising, people have a stereotype that Siemens dishwashers are the quietest. Actually this is not true. You cannot judge how noisy a dishwasher is by its brand; you need to consider specific models.
- AEG FSR 93800 P is a fully built-in full-size premium dishwasher that can accommodate 13 place settings. Noise level 39 dB. The model stands out with an impressive range of washing programs and additional special modes such as: extra hygiene, Timer Saver, extra drying.
- Electrolux ESL 97845 RA is a standard fully built-in premium machine that can accommodate 13 place settings.Due to good noise insulation, the machine produces no more than 39 dB. We especially note the functions: automatic shutdown, Time Manager, extra drying, load sensor.
- Smeg STA6539L3 is a standard mid-range dishwasher, fully built-in. It holds 13 place settings and produces operating noise of about 39 dB. It is distinguished by a “beam on the floor” indicator, a system for automatically opening the door at the end of work, and an automatic setting of water hardness.
- Neff S515M60X0R is a built-in full-size machine for 14 place settings. Noise level 39 dB. Features: Intensive Zone, Vario Speed, Hygiene Plus.
- Miele G 6891 SCVi K2O is a premium built-in dishwasher from Germany. Its baskets hold 14 sets of dishes. It stands out for its low resource consumption and noise level of 41 dB. The washing machine door opens with a knock.
- Gorenje + GDV664X – fully built-in dishwasher for 13 place settings. It has a flow-through heating element, 11 washing programs and a half-load mode. There are functions: timed washing, long-term drying, silent operation Silence+. Noise level 42 dB.
- Bosch Serie 6 SPS66XW11R is a narrow freestanding dishwasher with a capacity of 10 place settings. Although it is inferior in terms of noise level to its “counterpart” from our review, since it produces a sound of 43 dB, this is still a good result, since we are talking about a free-standing, and even more so, narrow technique. The model stands out: night wash mode, Hygiene Plus and Vario Speed functions.
So, as you can see, quiet built-in dishwashers are not at all uncommon. In our review we included only a small part of the quiet models that are sold today on the Russian market.Study the assortment carefully and make a choice based on the principles and rules that we outlined in the article. Happy shopping!
