Why is my dishwasher whistling?

Why is my dishwasher whistling? Many dishwasher users note that over time, the appliances begin to make strange noises, namely, whistling. Any uncharacteristic sounds are automatically perceived as a signal of some kind of problem. Let's try to understand why the dishwasher whistles, whether you should pay attention to it and how to deal with annoying sounds.

The main sources of whistling in PMM

In most cases, a squeak emitted by a dishwasher actually indicates a breakdown inside the unit, but sometimes a whistle can simply be a signal of an emergency situation that requires immediate intervention, but is certainly not “fatal.” There are plenty of reasons for this “behavior” of the unit.

  • Aquastop system. Aquastop protects the dishwasher from leaks. If something is wrong, the machine may start whistling or squeaking. However, it is difficult to detect the operation of Aquastop by sound alone. The control panel can help with this, where information about the presence of a problem is displayed (usually in the form of an error code) and other useful information. If the PMM is not protected from leaks by the system, you will have to diagnose problems in other ways.Aquastop hose for dishwasher
  • Problems with the door lock. In such cases, the machine not only whistles or beeps, it simply refuses to start the washing mode, and the door does not slam shut until it clicks. The dishwasher is programmed to activate programs only with the door completely closed, otherwise nothing will work. The only way to get rid of the whistling noise caused by this problem is to replace the lock.

Important! You can buy and change the lock yourself by disassembling the front panel of the sink and removing the locking device.

  • Clogged filter. The filter element must be cleaned periodically. Otherwise, the dishwasher will not be able to draw water normally and will do so with great difficulty, while making strange sounds, which may include whistling. Observing the machine while drawing water will help identify the problem. If the liquid barely enters the chamber, and it takes a lot of time, the filter needs to be cleaned, either yourself or entrusted to a professional!

How to clean the filter yourself? Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher. Unscrew the inlet hose and pull out the filter at its base (next to the inlet valve). The filter is a fine mesh, which, in case of minor contamination, is enough to hold under water pressure. If water does not cope with the blockage, you can either manually clean the sieve with a pin, or dip it in a citric acid solution for 60 minutes. Solution proportion: 30 g of powdered acid per 1 liter of water. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Additional sources of extraneous sound

If you have read the points described above, checked everything and realized that none of these factors caused the strange whistling of your dishwasher, you need to think about other possible reasons. These may include the failure of some sensors.

  • Code IB0, or 11 blinking lights - turbidity sensor failure. The failure may be caused by contamination of the sensor or its failure. The issue is resolved by cleaning or replacing the element.dishwasher error code
  • ID0, or 13 flashing lights - an error in the sensor responsible for rotating the engine rotor. This error may be associated either with the sensor wiring burnt out, or with the fact that the sensor itself is poorly secured (the fastening becomes loose due to constant vibrations). Check the sensor mounting and secure the element better if necessary. The sensor conductors need to be pierced with a multimeter (the resistance should change with rotation). If the wiring is faulty, the sensor will have to be replaced with a new one.

Sometimes the dishwasher whistles when it can't get water into the chamber. The problem may lie either in a simply closed tap, which can be solved quite simply, or in the absence of water in the fill pipe or in the water supply at all.

It is not for nothing that modern dishwashers are equipped with a diagnostic system and error codes. If the machine whistles for a reason, and this is associated with problems, if you have a display, you will know about this by the error code. The explanation can be found in the user manual.

What should you do on your own in this case?

  • Check your network connection.
  • Inspect the floor and bottom of the machine for leaks.
  • Check for blockages in the pump and filter.
  • Make sure that there is no overload and that the unit is level.

If nothing helps and you can’t find the cause of the nasty whistle, you will have to call a specialist for help, who will determine what happened and at the same time make repairs.
