Can a dryer be installed in a walk-in closet?
In a small living space it is difficult to even install a washing machine, let alone install an electric dryer. If this device is really necessary, then you have to place it where there is free space. Many people are interested in whether it is possible to put a dryer in a dressing room; will operation in such conditions cause equipment failure?
Is this placement of the dryer acceptable?
Modern dryer models are easy to install. Many of them do not depend on the communication scheme in the house or apartment. The devices can be located in any room where there is a connection to the electrical network. But sometimes unforeseen difficulties arise due to the fact that different dryers can work differently.
Owners of Miele brand equipment note that it is practically silent and does not increase the level of humidity in the room. Users of cheaper dryers, on the other hand, complain about noise and moisture that can lead to mold. In a small dressing room space, such devices can break. And due to high humidity, those things stored indoors will also deteriorate.
The cause of failure of a dryer operating in a cramped space may be overheating.
It is very difficult to foresee in advance what the moisture release will be when operating an inexpensive model of drying machine. As is correct, owners find out this in practice, after purchasing the device. If it turns out that the operation of equipment in the dressing room is unsafe, it must be moved to another location or an additional hood must be installed.
Dryer placement options
Connecting the dryer is easy. Difficulties often arise with the choice of installation method and location. Equipment owners may prefer one of the following options:
- above the washing machine;
- in a pre-prepared plasterboard niche;
- next to the washing machine;
- under the sink and countertop in the bathroom or kitchen.
If you install the dryer above the washing machine, this will save space and make washing and drying things easier. It will be convenient for the owner to transfer wet items from one drum to another. The equipment can be placed in residential or utility rooms. There are several options for mounting it:
- using the fasteners included with the dryer;
- using slats that are mounted above the washing machine.
The second method is rarely used. The use of fasteners that are supplied with the machine is considered more reliable. To install it, you must follow the following instructions:
- Level the washing machine. It is advisable that it stands on a flat surface made of concrete or tiles;
- Install a dryer stand above the washing machine. Place rubber seals between them, which should significantly reduce vibration. Secure the stand with bolts;
- place the dryer on the stand. Check that the legs of the machine fit exactly into the grooves;
- hide the recesses on the mount using plugs, which are usually also included in the package.
When placing a washing machine and dryer vertically, one above the other, you must follow installation rules and safety precautions.
Important! It is impossible to install devices in this way without special fastenings.
In addition, vertical installation of equipment requires knowledge of a number of rules.
- Before placing the machines one above the other, you need to calculate the load on the wall.
- Do not use fasteners of questionable quality.
- It is forbidden to turn on the dryer and washing machine at the same time, even if the owner is sure that the fastenings and wiring are reliable.
- It is necessary to take into account the strong vibration of the dryer during operation and provide a gap of 2–3 cm between the device body and the wall.
- If possible, it is better to purchase equipment for washing and drying clothes of the same brands. In this case, the owner does not have to worry about fastenings; they will fit perfectly.
- If you can’t buy a washing machine and dryer from the same manufacturer, you should select appliances based on size. They should be the same.
- Do not install the dryer under a washing machine, which vibrates more and weighs more.
The equipment located below should not be smaller than the device installed on top.
It is much easier to install a washer and dryer next to each other. The only drawback of this placement option is the need to allocate a large area in the room. As a rule, devices can be installed in a line in spacious apartments or houses. This placement allows for profitable use of space. For example, you can build a long tabletop and hang cabinets or shelves above it. Installing the equipment is simple. Just check the level and unscrew the legs to the required height.
For the dryer, you can mount a separate niche made of plasterboard. This installation method is more financially expensive and requires the purchase of building materials and the invitation of a specialist. But this allows you to harmoniously fit household appliances into the interior of an apartment or house.
Sometimes dryers are installed under bathroom sinks and covered with countertops. This option is not suitable for small rooms. At the same time, installation work is carried out easily. It is enough to connect the dryer to the sewer and ventilation systems.
Regardless of which method of installing the device its owner chooses, it is important to make sure that there are communications and evaluate their location. The room must have grounded sockets, as well as access to sewer pipes and ventilation. When choosing a place for a dryer, you should take into account the characteristics and dimensions of the device, as well as the features of the living or utility room and its dimensions.
