How to wash school uniforms in a washing machine?
School uniforms have to be washed frequently. Children are children, and it happens that even after one or two wears, the set needs to be refreshed. If not properly cared for, pellets and whitish spots may appear on dense fabric. To ensure that your suit retains its appearance for as long as possible, you should follow several rules for caring for the product. Let's figure out whether it is possible to wash school uniforms in a washing machine, and how to ensure gentle cleaning of the set.
Primary requirements
Getting your school suit in order takes a lot of time and effort. A washing machine makes life easier for parents. Let's figure out whether it is possible to load the form into the drum, and whether automatic washing will harm the clothes.
Be sure to study the item's label; it indicates the acceptable washing method, temperature conditions, recommendations for drying and ironing.
When washing your student uniform, adhere to the following rules:
- Before loading things into the drum, inspect the pockets;
- fasten buttons, snaps, zippers, turn clothes inside out;
- trousers, dresses and skirts for schoolchildren are usually made from combined fabrics with the addition of wool, so it is important to set the appropriate washing program;
- the water heating temperature should not exceed 30°C;
- white shirts, turtlenecks and cotton blouses are washed separately from trousers and skirts, on the appropriate cycle;
- difficult stains from white shirts can be removed with mild oxygen bleach;
- when dense dark fabric is heavily soiled, treat these areas with laundry soap before loading into the drum. If it doesn't help, use a stain remover.
If stains cannot be removed with a mild stain remover, you should not use more aggressive products, as they can damage the fabric. In such a situation, it is advisable to take the uniform to the dry cleaner. Specialists will remove the stain without damaging the material.
Washing the jacket
While trousers, skirts and sundresses can be machine washed without any problems, the situation with jackets is more complicated. The blazer has a characteristic shape that is given to it during production. Due to a kind of professional ironing, creases are formed on the material. The seams at the factories are also ironed in a special way, allowing the jacket to “fit” strictly to your figure.
During automatic washing, the “correct” creases made in production are wrinkled, and the blazer gradually loses its shape. Experts recommend washing jackets by hand to preserve the appearance of the item. After careful hand washing, the factory iron does not deteriorate.
Jackets whose fabric consists of more than 80% wool are strictly prohibited from washing in an automatic machine.
A wool blazer will not survive prolonged contact with water. After machine washing, not only will the factory iron be damaged, but the jacket itself will shrink several sizes. To preserve the item, it is recommended to clean it dry.
When the machine washable symbol is on the label, you can load the jacket into the machine. Remember the basic rules:
- choose the most gentle program, usually delicate or hand wash, “Wool” mode;
- the water heating temperature should not exceed 30°C;
- turn off the automatic spin, this will help avoid deformation of the item;
- do not twist the blazer. Just lay the jacket on a horizontal surface, straighten it thoroughly and wait for it to dry.
It is better to hang the still damp jacket on hangers. This will allow the fabric to straighten naturally. It is also recommended to steam the blazer after washing.
Let's iron
After washing the school uniform and drying it, all that remains is to iron the set. Then the suit will look neat and elegant. If the jacket is dried correctly, then ironing is not required.
To iron trousers, a sundress or a skirt, you need to set the iron to the wool setting. School uniforms should be ironed when they are still slightly damp, on the reverse side. You need to form the arrows through a layer of wet gauze.
If you need to iron your jacket, you should follow similar recommendations. Turn the item inside out and iron it through a thin layer of gauze.
We remove difficult stains
It is important to choose a detergent for washing your school kit. It is better to buy a special gel for delicate fabrics. Powders do not dissolve well in cool water and are not completely rinsed out of the fibers, which is unsafe for the child’s health.
Often difficult to remove stains are found on school trousers, jackets or skirts. Usually these are traces of fat, lines drawn with a ballpoint pen. How to deal with complex stains on your own?
- Handle stains from mixed wool fabrics can be removed with alcohol. You can also use special purified gasoline used for refilling lighters. Soak a cotton pad in the product and wipe the contaminated area. Afterwards the item needs to be washed.
- Traces of fat are removed with talc. Sprinkle the mineral onto the stain and iron it through the paper. The sheet should be placed on both sides of the fabric. The result may not be achieved the first time, so repeat the procedure.
- Fat from the mold is also removed with a solution of ammonia and salt.Mix 3 tablespoons of alcohol and 1/2 tablespoon of salt, apply the resulting product to the stain. After half an hour, wash the item.
- Traces of sweat are easily removed with saline solution. In a liter of water, stir 2 tbsp. spoons of salt, soak clothes in the liquid, then wash them in the usual way.
- Salt will help remove stains from fruits and juices. Just wet it and apply to the dirty area, leave for half an hour, then wash your clothes.
When buying detergent and stain remover in a store, choose formulations that do not contain aggressive components. Too strong household chemicals can not only ruin the fabric, but also cause an allergic reaction in the child.
