Washing a dress in a washing machine
Many women prefer dresses to trousers and jeans. Moreover, they like to wear them not only on holidays, but also on weekdays. However, some fabrics are so capricious that washing things turns into a real challenge, and girls abandon a sundress in favor of a more practical T-shirt. Let's figure out how to properly wash a dress in a washing machine to preserve its shape for a long time. If you follow certain tips, you won’t have to deny yourself the pleasure of dressing up every day.
Chintz dress
There are no universal instructions for washing any item of clothing. Each dress requires an individual approach, depending on the material from which it is made. For example, when washing a cotton item, you cannot put synthetic linen into the drum at the same time. Otherwise, the original softness of chintz will be lost and the fabric will become fragile.
A few more tips to follow when washing your chintz outfit:
- Be sure to turn the item inside out before loading it into the drum;
- zippers and buttons on a chintz dress must be fastened;
- it is advisable to use powders and gels without bleaching particles;
- to preserve the properties of the fabric, it is better to wash calico items on a delicate cycle;
- to add shine to the material, it is recommended to soak the item in a saline solution after washing (3 tablespoons of salt per 5 liters of water);
- You can refresh a “washed” cotton dress by soaking it in a vinegar solution (one spoon of vinegar per liter of water).
Make sure that the chintz item is wrung out at low speeds, otherwise the product may become deformed. It is also important to dry the fabric outside, avoiding direct sunlight.If clothes are dried in the house, it should be a well-ventilated room.
Velvet thing
Velvet dresses are a special passion of some women. Before you decide to load such a product into the machine, be sure to study the label of the item. When only manual cleaning is allowed, it’s not worth the risk. If the manufacturer is not against automatic washing, it is important to study the symbols on the tag - they will tell you which program and at what temperature it is better to wash the outfit.
It is recommended to wash velvet dresses in special bags to minimize the negative impact on the delicate fabric.
Velvet items should also be turned inside out before putting into the drum. It is usually allowed to run a delicate or hand wash program with water heating not exceeding 30°C. Spinning and drying must be turned off. The time required to scroll the velvet product in the machine should be minimal. At the end of the process, you should remove the dress from the washing machine and, without wrung out, hang it to dry.
Viscose items
Dresses made of viscose are incredibly airy, soft, and flowy, but some women refuse them, not wanting to constantly wash the item by hand. Modern washing machines can easily cope with this task, so you can safely replenish your wardrobe with a viscose sundress. Here are some tips to help you avoid ruining your outfit:
- Do not load viscose into the drum at the same time as coarser fabric;
- It’s better to wash dresses in special bags;
- run the “Delicate” or “Hand Wash” mode, make sure that the temperature does not exceed 30°C;
- Be sure to turn off automatic spinning; it is contraindicated for viscose items;
- You should use a high-quality cleanser, especially for delicate fabrics.It is better to refuse dry powder and give preference to gel or capsules.
If the dress is seriously soiled, it is permissible to use an oxygen stain remover for cleaning. For light and white viscose clothing, you can use non-chlorine bleaches. It is recommended to add conditioner to the washing machine, then the item will be incredibly soft.
Knitted dresses
Any knitted dress can be washed in a machine, so there will be no difficulties with caring for the item. It is enough to set a gentle program suitable for cleaning delicate fabrics. To determine the optimal water heating temperature, study the product label. It is generally recommended that it does not exceed 40°C. It is better to set the spin to minimum – 400-800 rpm.
Hanging wet knitwear on a clothesline is strictly prohibited.
Also, you should not wring out the item by twisting it. Remove the dress from the drum and use your hand to wipe off excess moisture, moving from top to bottom. You can lay the product on a wire rack, then the water will drain out on its own. Afterwards, you need to wrap the sundress in a “roll” in a terry towel - this is the final stage of “manual” spinning. Next, the knitwear is dried on a horizontal surface in a well-ventilated area.
Silk product
Chic silk dresses will adorn any woman, which is why they are so loved by the fair half of humanity. You cannot wash silk outfits in an automatic machine; only manual cleaning of the products is allowed. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- fill a basin with water at a temperature of no more than 40°C;
- add a gentle detergent;
- soak the dress in the container for 10-15 minutes;
- wash the item, avoiding strong mechanical impact (do not rub, squeeze, twist the fabric);
- rinse the outfit several times, gradually reducing the water temperature. The final rinse should take place in cold water. Air conditioning may be used. The rinse aid will protect silk from electrification, protect it from shedding, and smooth out the fibers of the material.
Silk items cannot be twisted. You need to take the item out of the water and lay it out on a terry towel or sheet. It’s better to put another piece of cloth on top and, pressing with your palm, remove excess moisture from the silk. The dress is also dried in a horizontal position.
Polyester item
As in any other case, before putting a polyester dress into the machine, you should make sure that there are no restrictions on the tag. This is an unpretentious synthetic material, and usually the manufacturer allows machine cleaning. It is important to sort things by color.
If there are stains on the dress, they must be removed in advance, before loading the clothes into the machine. It is better to use liquid products, separately for colored and white laundry (depending on the shade of the fabric). You should run a delicate program or manual mode with a spin speed of up to 800 rpm. It is advisable to rinse your polyester dress with conditioner.
Satin dress
Satin is a delicate material that requires careful care. It is better to wash luxurious satin dresses by hand, following the basic recommendations. It is also important to use high-quality liquid detergents specifically for washing such fabrics. It is allowed to use compositions for cleaning silk.
When washing a satin dress, you need to forget about dry powders - granules can leave marks on the product that will be very difficult to remove.
The washing procedure is usual: first the item is soaked in water with the addition of detergent, then rinsed well.You cannot twist the satin - you take out the dress, shake off excess moisture from it with your hands, then hang the outfit on a line to dry.
