Washing a dress with sequins

Washing a dress with sequinsMany festive dresses are embroidered with sequins - sparkling flat or embossed “scales”. They make the outfit more spectacular and brighter by covering the fabric entirely or with patterns. However, such suits also need to be washed periodically, and in a special way. Let's figure out how to wash a dress with sequins and what mistakes fashionistas make most often. All instructions and recommendations are below.

How to care for such a thing?

Items with sequins are considered delicate items. The scales are made of thin plastic and most often have a diameter of 4-7 mm. As a rule, shiny plates are attached with glue or threads, and the base of the dress is chiffon, silk, knitwear, organza or mesh. In any case, the outfit turns out to be light and needs careful care.

Before cleaning a sequin dress, you should examine the tag attached to it. On it, the manufacturer must indicate the optimal conditions for caring for the product - temperature, nuances of washing, bleaching and spinning. Some outfits are strictly prohibited from any cleaning, as indicated by an icon with a crossed out basin on the label.

There are also general recommendations for washing decorated items:

  • minor dirt can be removed with a cloth soaked in soap;
  • aggressive, bleaching and abrasive products are prohibited;
  • dry cleaning is contraindicated;
  • gel delicate detergents are used;
  • water heating temperature – up to 40 degrees;set the temperature to 40 degrees
  • “scaly” dresses are washed separately from everyday clothes;
  • before immersion in water, all rivets, zippers and other fasteners are fastened;
  • It is not recommended to add rinsing agents - they make the records fade;
  • When loading into the drum of a washing machine, mesh bags must be used to protect the item from snags and ties (an alternative is a regular pillowcase).

Dresses with sequins are recommended to be washed by hand: in cold water and with minimal pressure.

When choosing between hand washing and machine washing, it is better to give preference to the first. Warm water at 30-40 degrees is collected in a basin, where the gel or liquid powder dissolves. The dress is lowered into the resulting solution. The item is soaked for the first 5 minutes, after which it is carefully washed by creasing and squeezing. Twisting or stretching the fabric is prohibited - this will cause the base to stretch and the sequins to fall off. At the “finish”, the outfit is rinsed and laid out on a floor dryer without spinning.

Machine wash is allowed only for items with sewn-on decor and only on a delicate program. Be sure to reduce the water temperature to a minimum, add liquid detergent and turn off the spin cycle. It is better to choose a short mode and immediately send the suit to dry at the end of the cycle.

Regular powders for washing items with sequins are not suitable. The granules do not dissolve well at low temperatures, scratch the records and deprive them of their shine. The base fabric also deteriorates, since grains remain in the fibers, damaging their structure. Instead of a dry concentrate, it is recommended to use a liquid cleaner - a special cleaner for delicate materials. As a last resort, use dish gel or hair shampoo.

Common mistakes

In order not to spoil an expensive “scaly” dress, you need to take the washing as responsibly as possible.If you heat the water too much or overdo it with the spin, the product will lose its original appearance, crumble or become discolored. Typically, the following errors are made:

  • the fabric curls and rubs a lot;
  • washing powders or concentrates with abrasive components are used;pour the powder into the tray of the Miele machine
  • the product is wrung out;
  • water heats up above 40 degrees;
  • The product is not placed in the net before being loaded into the machine.

When washing a dress with sequin decor, it is forbidden to twist, rub or wring it - only gentle cleaning with the addition of liquid detergents is allowed!

The result will be disastrous: the outfit will lose its shape, stretch and sag. Sequins that become deformed, break or lose their original shine will also suffer. Often the plates fly off, and sewing them back is quite difficult.

How to iron a dress like this?

It is not necessary to iron a dress embroidered with sequins - folds and creases are not visible under the sequins. Moreover, contact with a hot iron is dangerous for plastic decor, since at high temperatures the plates will melt and stick to the base. The fabric itself does not like excessive heat: knitwear, silk, organza, mesh and other delicate materials can become deformed and deteriorate.

It is strongly not recommended to iron an outfit embroidered with sequins - strong heat will cause the scales to melt and ruin the dress!

If absolutely necessary, ironing is allowed at the lowest temperature and only from the inside out. Be sure to use wet gauze folded in 2-3 layers as a protective lining.
