Can air mattresses be washed?
Air mattresses are often used in everyday life, not only in the summer, but also at any other time of the year, when, for example, guests arrive and additional sleeping places are needed. During the swimming season, an inflatable mattress can be used as a swimming device, which is very popular with both children and adults. In general, such a thing is quite resistant to stains, but if suddenly the stains are so complex that only washing can help, the question arises, is it possible to wash an air mattress in a washing machine?
Is it permissible to put a mattress in the washing machine?
Modern technology allows you to wash almost anything in the washing machine, so some people may mistakenly believe that, with due care, washing an air mattress in a machine is completely acceptable. In fact, this is not true. To ensure the safety of the material, it is necessary to clean the mattress purely by hand.
The first reason is that during washing, the internal membranes that give the product elasticity can be damaged by the walls of the drum. Then the mattress will no longer be able to perform its functions.
The same applies to the surface itself. It won't be difficult to get caught on anything inside the drum. And even if the mattress does not tear immediately, the resulting microcracks will very likely later turn into full-fledged holes, and the product will begin to leak air and deflate. Finally, detergents contain chemicals that destroy the structure of the material, although not immediately. If active components get into cracks, they gradually destroy them.
Cleans effectively without washing
Many people don’t understand why they need to clean their mattress. After all, the material is usually dark, dirt on it is not visible, and small debris can be washed off with plain water. In fact, the rules of hygiene work in this case too. Regardless of whether you use the product only at home, or travel with it outdoors (to the sea or to the country), it is necessary to clean the mattress at least once every six months.
To get rid of dirt, you may need detergents that do not contain active chemicals.
- Shampoo.
- Hydrogen peroxide.
- A mixture of salt and vinegar.
- Soft powder.
It is better to clean the material immediately upon the appearance of contamination. If you wait and let the stains soak in, removing them later will be much more problematic. If you do everything at once, there will be no difficulties.
What will we use to remove stains?
Returning to the question of washing the mattress with plain water, it is worth saying that this, of course, can be done. This will not cause any harm to the product, but the effectiveness of this method is almost zero. It is better to clean the mattress like this:
Small stains can be easily removed with a solution of laundry soap. Take a small block and grate it in half a liter of water. Dip a sponge into the resulting mixture and actively wipe away the dirt. Continue working the stain until it is completely gone. An excellent method for removing stains, and even cheap.
If the stain is fresh, it is best to remove it immediately with a powder solution. Whisk foam from the solution and apply it liberally to the stain, and then rub into the surface of the product. Then rinse off the composition under water pressure and leave to dry.
Attention! Drying the material in the sun is strictly not recommended.Although air mattresses are regularly exposed to sunlight, leaving the product in the heat for several hours without moving is a sure way to destroy the structure of the material.
If the stains are old, use salt and lemon juice. Apply the mixture to the stain and leave for several hours to allow the reaction to occur. Then rinse off the composition with a wet sponge and dry the product.
You can remove blood or coffee stains with hydrogen peroxide. Soak a towel in it and apply it to the stain until the towel draws out the pigment as much as possible. When the stain turns light brown, you can remove it with a soap solution, after which all that remains is to rinse the mattress, dry it and use it further.
