How to wash sneakers in the Indesit washing machine?
If you decide to wash your sneakers in the Indesit washing machine, then you should be thoroughly prepared. Washing automatically and beyond human control remains extremely risky and can seriously wear out expensive shoes. But it is quite possible to reduce risks and achieve purity without sacrificing quality: you just need to follow all recommendations and strictly follow proven instructions.
Setting the settings
To make washing as predictable, safe and effective as possible, you will have to prepare. The first step is to properly configure your existing Indesit machine. We look at the dashboard near the detergent tray and carefully study the list of modes offered by the manufacturer.
To wash sneakers in Indesit machines, you need to select a special mode - “Sports shoes”.
Most modern slot machines from Indesit have “Sports Shoes” in the list of programs at number 13 or 12. This mode is designed specifically for washing sneakers, Snickers, Basketballs and other types of sneakers. There is no need to adjust the specified cycle settings, reduce the time or increase the temperature - the manufacturer has developed the ideal set of conditions, duration, temperature and intensity of drum rotation.
If the existing Indesit model does not have the “Sports Shoes” mode, you need to select the program that is as close as possible to it - “Delicate Wash”. As a last resort, we set the settings manually: temperature to 30-40 degrees, spin to minimum or “off,” turn off drying and add a double rinse.
Preparing shoes
Having set up the automatic washing machine, we begin to prepare the shoes themselves.The first step is to carefully inspect the sneakers. If they contain pasted decorative elements, reflectors, patches, sparkles, rhinestones, then it is better to limit yourself to hand washing. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose the decor as the drum rotates, ruining both the sneakers and the equipment. We act in the same way with foam rubber sticking out of the crosses, since the filler will come out during movement and clog the drain system of the washing machine. Then we proceed like this.
- We take out the laces and insoles. It is better to try washing the latter by hand: wet it, sprinkle it with powder and rub it with a stiff shoe brush for 10 minutes. If you don’t want to do hand washing, then put the removed items in the drum with the sneakers.
- We thoroughly clean the sole, removing dirt, sand, stones, grass and other debris. We arm ourselves with a toothpick or a knitting needle and go through all the “grooves” on the tread. Afterwards, be sure to rinse your shoes under the tap. Don't be afraid to soak the sneakers inside - they still have to be washed in a machine.
- We combine shoes by color. The rules are the same as for standard washing: white is washed with white, black with dark, and colored with colored. Do not forget that when making shoes, ordinary dyes are used, which can fade and ruin another pair.
- We place the sneakers in a special protective bag. An old pillowcase or nylon stocking will do.
- We load the sneakers into the drum, and along with them we put a few old towels, a rug or jeans. Thanks to the “cushion”, the sneakers will not hit the walls of the drum and upset the balance of the washing machine. Also, such protection will preserve the integrity of the ribs, blades, bumpers and will not allow the decor to penetrate into the drain system of the machine.
In one cycle, 1-2 pairs of sneakers are washed, regardless of the capacity of the Indesit machine.
Loading three, four or more pairs of sneakers into the drum is strictly prohibited. Even with minimal untwisting, shoes can break the glass of the hatch door and interrupt the planned wash in the most unpleasant and costly way. It’s better not to take risks, but to distribute the sneakers that need cleaning over several cycles.
Let's launch the equipment
Having selected the washing mode and thrown the prepared sneakers into the drum, you can close the door and start the cycle. But first, it’s better to take another look at the dashboard and check if the settings are correct. Remember that the permitted temperature range for shoes is limited to 30-40 degrees, since too hot water will lead to the soles and other elements of the sneakers peeling off. It is also important to turn off the spin cycle, because spinning heavy crosses in the machine will negatively affect the dampers and bearings of the washing machine.
We must turn off automatic drying, as it leads to cloudy colors and deformation of shoes.
At the “finish” we add detergent according to the following rules:
- choose a regular detergent (ideally, it is recommended to use a delicate wash gel);
- measure out the standard dose;
- add a little bleach if white sneakers are washed;
- We refuse conditioner (it is better to limit chemicals and use a double rinse).
That’s it, click “Start” and wait for the end of the cycle. It is advisable to monitor the progress of the wash in order to react in time to imbalance or increased foaming. We remember that automatic drying, either in a dryer or with a hairdryer, is prohibited, so we dry our sneakers strictly according to the rules. Ideally, crosses are placed on the balcony, in the fresh air and in direct sunlight. But it is not forbidden to use batteries: we stuff the sneakers with white paper to their original shape, cover the radiator with a rag and put the shoes on top.
It is not recommended to stuff sneakers with newspapers, as moisture and heat will cause printing ink to print on the shoes.
If everything is done correctly, then washing in an Indesit automatic machine will not harm the sneakers, but will help them become cleaner. The main thing is not to exceed the permissible temperature, prepare the shoes for loading into the drum and turn off the spin cycle.
