Washing leatherette in a washing machine

Washing leatherette in a washing machineHigh-quality leatherette is practically no different from genuine leather. It is just as smooth and durable, looks expensive and solid. The material is also practical to wear: it repels dirt, does not allow moisture to pass through and retains heat well. But leatherette also gets dirty over time and requires cleaning, which can be difficult. Let's figure out whether it is possible to wash leatherette in a washing machine, what detergent and how.

Is it possible to wet leatherette?

Standard washing, especially in an automatic machine, is undesirable and sometimes prohibited for leatherette items. Despite the ability of the material to withstand getting wet in the rain, soaking should not be allowed - 98% of substitute products do not tolerate water. The manufacturer warns about this with a special icon in the form of a crossed out basin on the tag.leatherette after washing in a machine

The remaining 2% can be immersed in water, but with restrictions. First, choose hand wash only. Secondly, avoid prolonged soaking, limiting yourself to watering the item from the shower or ladle. Thirdly, immediately collect all the moisture from the fabric by blotting it with a towel or napkin.

Products made from leather substitute cannot be washed in a washing machine - only superficial wet cleaning is allowed!

However, complete cleaning is usually not required - things made of leatherette are quite practical and can repel dirt and dust. To freshen up your jacket or trousers, simply clean your clothes quickly and with minimal use of water. Instructions are given below.

Cleaning without water

Waterless washing will be a safe and equally effective alternative to a washing machine. The main thing is to act consistently and according to the rules.The first step is dry cleaning by treating the contaminated areas with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol. Use an alcohol-soaked cotton swab to carefully go over the collar, cuffs and pockets.

Further actions depend on the degree and complexity of the existing contamination:

  • shiny areas are treated with baking soda, which is mixed with water at room temperature and applied to the stains with a damp cloth;We clean a leatherette bag traditionally
  • white stains and greasy stains are washed off with lemon juice;
  • Spilled wine is wiped up with a warm vinegar solution or soap with glycerin.

Immediately after the procedure, cleaned areas of leatherette are treated with a damp cloth and dried with flannel.

If an eco-leather item gets dirty on the lining side, it is not necessary to wash the entire item. You can get by with one-sided cleaning in the standard mode: turn it inside out and wash the stain with soapy water or Vanish. White and light-colored fabrics can be bleached with oxygen bleach. Afterwards, the textiles are soaked several times with a damp sponge and then dried.

We remove stubborn stains

Sometimes there are stubborn stains. Stubborn stains can be removed by using a mixture of liquid soap and glycerin. The instructions are as follows:

  • mix two tablespoons of liquid soap and one portion of glycerin;
  • apply a thin layer of the mixture to the stained area of the jacket;
  • leave the item for 10 minutes;We use glycerin to remove stains.
  • Rub the contaminated area with a soft sponge;
  • collect the remaining product with a damp cloth;
  • wipe dry with a dry cloth.

To remove difficult stains from leatherette, use Fill Inn cleaner or a mixture of glycerin and liquid soap.

The special cleaner “Fill Inn” is effective in removing stains from leatherette.It is absolutely safe for leather materials and easy to use. Just shake the bottle, spray an even thin layer over the contaminated area, rub in with a sponge and leave the product to “work” for 2-3 minutes. Afterwards, the liquid along with the dirt is removed with a dry cloth.

Getting rid of moisture

If a leatherette product had to be washed, then it is important to take care of its complete and proper drying. To minimize the consequences of getting wet and protect the jacket from possible deformation, you must follow certain instructions. We are talking about the following recommendations:

  • The leatherette is dried vertically (on hangers) or horizontally (on an ironing board or floor dryer);
  • leather skirts and trousers are dried from the inside out;
  • Backpacks and bags made of leatherette are turned right side out before drying.

The skin substitute is deformed at high temperatures and under direct ultraviolet light - it wrinkles and becomes covered with whitish spots.

  • artificial drying using a hair dryer or heating appliances is prohibited;
  • eco-leather does not tolerate direct sunlight (the material wrinkles in the sun);
  • A ventilated room is selected for drying.

To speed up the drying of a leatherette item, you should “stuff” it from the inside with dry paper. The paper “filling” will quickly absorb moisture, so it is necessary to periodically replace the filling with a new one. It is better to use only white sheets, otherwise printing ink from newspapers and magazines will transfer to the material, ruining it.
