How to properly wash a mouse pad?
You shouldn’t forget about washing your computer mat. The accuracy and speed of the cursor, as well as the performance of the gaming mouse as a whole, depend on its cleanliness. If the fabric is dirty, the device will slow down and stop hitting the “target”. You can and should wash your device, but only according to specific instructions. Let's figure out how to properly wash a mouse pad to maintain its smoothness and shape.
Features of washing computer mats
Cleaning a gaming mouse pad is different from cleaning a regular tablecloth or napkin. It is important that the lining remains as smooth and even - otherwise there will be no necessary sliding. Therefore, you should adhere to several rules:
- do not wrinkle or rub the product too much;
- wash only by hand (rotation in the washing machine drum will damage the coating);
- use water up to 40 degrees;
- do not twist the mat (moisture is removed with cloth or paper).
The computer mat must not be rubbed or twisted!
The frequency of cleaning depends on how quickly the mat gets dirty. As a general rule, it is recommended to wash your device every 3 months. Ideally, the accessory is not brought to a dirty state, but is periodically wiped with a cloth for preventive maintenance.
We wash the rug from dirt
Can you remove a stain from a rug with soap? Yes! To remove heavy stains, non-aggressive detergents and a dish sponge are required. The sequence of actions is as follows:
- wet the mat under running water;
- drip shampoo onto the dirty side;
- grind the detergent into foam;
- Use a sponge to clean the mat on both sides (with light circular movements);
- rinse off the foam with clean water;
- repeat cleaning and rinsing if stains are not removed.
If the accessory has a built-in backlight, then running water should be abandoned. It is better to limit yourself to superficial “cleaning” with a special means for cleaning screen surfaces. Another option is to wipe the lining with a disposable wipe.
To wash rugs, delicate liquid products are used - shampoos and gels without chlorine, phosphates and bleaches.
A double-sided mat can be treated with alcohol infusion: dilute alcohol with water, soak a cloth in it and wipe both sides of the device. Rough rubber accessories are washed using an old toothbrush or melamine sponge.
Cleaning a textile rug
The fabric mat is the most unpretentious - it is the easiest to wash. Simply take a rag and dip it in a concentrated cleaning solution. Liquid soap, dish gel, hair shampoo or liquid powder are used as a cleaner. Then everything is simple: use a soapy sponge to walk over the contaminated areas, and then wash off the foam under the tap.
Many people are concerned about the question of whether it is possible to wash a computer in a basin. This is allowed if you follow the following algorithm:
- fill the basin with cool water;
- dissolve a gentle detergent in water (without bleaches or other abrasive components);
- lower the mat into the resulting solution;
- wipe the soiled areas with your hands, avoiding pressure and creasing;
- Rinse the product under cold water.
It is better to vacuum or shake out a dusty rug first!
Fabric linings with a “control” coating are washed as standard: softly and without unnecessary friction. To remove dust, you don’t need to start washing – you can just use a rag or a vacuum cleaner.
If the mat is on a plastic base
Plastic mats should be washed immediately after soiling. Over time, dirt will become embedded in the plastic, and getting rid of it will be problematic. The cleaning itself takes place in a delicate “mode”:
- refuse the washing machine;
- wipe the surface with a sponge soaked in soapy water;
- rinse off the foam with clean water;
- dry.
Plastic rugs can be easily cleaned with dish gel, especially if the stains are embedded in the material. You can also remove old stains using an alcohol solution or a cleaning cloth for computers and TVs.
Rug with light effect and print
Mats for gamers have “new features”: backlighting, connectors and limiters. It is convenient to use, but problematic to clean - such devices need to be looked after carefully. Playing types of linings should also be washed periodically, but more delicately:
- do not wash;
- do not wet completely;
- limit yourself to superficial cleaning.
Rugs equipped with electronics are afraid of direct contact with moisture - the “filling” will fail. To prevent this, you must avoid washing and choose superficial cleaning. An excellent option is to wipe the surface of the device with a special cleaning cloth. Treatment with a cleaning spray or solution based on ammonia is also acceptable. The latter not only effectively washes away dirt, but also does not leave behind streaks.
A backlit mat cannot be completely wet - direct contact with water will damage the electronics!
It's another matter if the mat is bamboo. This material does not tolerate moisture, and when exposed to water it becomes deformed. It’s better not to risk it and use an alcohol wipe.
When planning to clean your rug, you should follow the manufacturer's recommendations.If the packaging is lost and there are doubts about the choice of detergent, then it is better to refuse washing and choose a gentler care. This way the lining will remain clean and functional.
How to get rid of moisture?
There should be no doubt about whether the mat can be used wet. Until the lining is completely dry, you cannot put it on the table - residual moisture can “reach” the electronics of the computer mouse and damage it. Before returning the device to the laptop, you need to dry it.
The rug is dried according to certain rules:
- natural drying only – no hair dryer or battery;
- The mat is first wiped dry on both sides (with a cloth, napkins or towel);
- place the product on the floor dryer face up;
- For drying, select a ventilated room, protected from direct sunlight.
You cannot soak a computer mat with newspapers - printing ink will remain on the surface.
If the rug is too wet, it is better to dry it on a clothesline. The product is attached with clothespins from two corners and left until completely dry.
