Is it possible to wash children's clothes with laundry soap?
The modern variety of care products for children's things has alienated many people from the need to use laundry soap, known since ancient times, for washing. Despite the fact that this product has stood the test of time, many people prefer the usual powders or fashionable capsules and gels for washing children's clothes. However, some parents are convinced that washing children's clothes with laundry soap is the safest. What is better to choose?
Is soap harmful to children?
Anionic surfactants can be found in any laundry detergent. These are chemicals that, when entering the body, weaken the immune system and can cause allergies in people of any age. Allergic problems with the skin and respiratory system are especially dangerous for newborns.
In contrast, laundry soap contains only natural ingredients that are safe for children's health. Its composition is dominated by vegetable oils and fatty acids of natural origin. This product does not contain harmful chemicals, does not cause allergic reactions, and is therefore best suited for the hygiene of children's clothes and for adults who are predisposed to allergy-related skin inflammation.
Important! Children's doctors advise using exclusively laundry soap to wash young children's clothes.
By washing your laundry and clothes with laundry soap, you don’t have to worry about health consequences, since no chemicals will settle on your clothes. However, there is also a flip side to the coin.This product is not suitable for automatic machine washing, which many housewives cannot do without.
Why is soap not suitable for the machine?
Obviously, large bars of soap cannot fit into the washing machine's container designed for powder. Even if it is cut into pieces for this purpose, it will not be washed into the tank during washing at the required moment. In addition, laundry soap produces too much foam. Its excess can penetrate into the electronic module of the machine and cause a short circuit.
Soap deposits are harmful to equipment because they can clog the pump and impede the movement of the impeller. This substance can clog hoses and pipes, making them difficult to function. Despite this, there are a number of techniques, using which many people successfully wash with soap in a machine without causing harm to it. What's the secret?
Preparing soap for machine wash
Proven tips will help you ensure machine-safe washing using the most harmless product for your health. Their use will allow you to use the benefits of laundry soap without restrictions. First of all, you need to make it machine washable. You can turn soap into a gel that does its job perfectly in this way:
- grate laundry soap (100 g) on a fine grater;
- mix the resulting shavings in a saucepan with hot water (1 liter) until a homogeneous solution is formed over low heat, without bringing to a boil;
- In a similar way, in another saucepan, prepare a solution of soda (3 tbsp) with water (3 l);
- combine the prepared solutions of soap and soda into one, allowing to cool to room temperature;
- to add aroma, you can add 2-3 drops of essential oil;
- For greater homogeneity of the mixture, additionally mix it with a blender;
- cool completely, resulting in a gel-like laundry detergent;
- transfer the gel to a sealable container.
Soap gel should be added to the drum at the rate of 150 g per 3 kg of laundry items. In addition, you can use laundry soap shavings at the rate of 3 tbsp. for one wash. To do this, it is convenient to grind the soap using a meat grinder or a coarse grater. You can also use a soap solution prepared from 2 tbsp. crushed soap and a glass (200 ml) of hot water, adding to the powder compartment of the machine.
Important! Do not wash silk and wool items with laundry soap.
How to care for your machine?
Regular automatic washing using laundry soap requires increased care of the equipment. Experts recommend that after each soapy wash, run an additional rinse of the items in the machine. It is necessary to periodically check the condition of the drum and cuff for the presence of greasy soap deposits. After just a few washes, it is necessary to carry out preventive cleaning of the washing installation in any way.
For frequent washing with an alkaline detergent in hard water, additional measures should be taken to maintain the functionality of the equipment. Twice a month you need to run the wash without clothes, but with soda or a special detergent. If you rarely use soap, it is enough to clean the machine once a month. If you use laundry soap only for washing children's clothes, then when washing other things with ordinary means, soap residue will be erased from the inner surface of the washing machine.
