Washing a tie in the washing machine

A business look and a strict dress code almost always mean wearing a tie. This accessory is made from delicate materials, but due to its proximity to the face it often suffers from dirt. Removing stains from the “strip” is quite problematic, especially if you act without preparation. Many people prefer to wash their tie in the washing machine without unnecessary preludes. We suggest finding out whether the product can withstand drum shaking and what washing parameters need to be set.

Features of automatic washing

Blindly throwing a tie into a drum is a bad idea. To eliminate the risk of damage to the product, it is recommended to study the manufacturer's label before any manipulation. The label contains all recommendations for caring for the item. When the markings have not been preserved, you need to independently determine what fabric the accessory is made from. If it is a delicate material, for example, silk, then it is better to refuse automatic washing. In the case of synthetics, everything is simpler: washing is allowed.

It is not recommended to wash a silk tie in a washing machine!

A synthetic tie can be machine washed, but you need to follow a few rules. First of all, you should check the correct sorting of things, excluding the simultaneous washing of light, dark and colored fabrics. Secondly, we put the product in a special protective bag. If there are old stains on the accessory, then first rub the contaminated areas with soap or treat them with a suitable stain remover. Next, set up the washing machine: select any fast mode, set the water heating to 40-60 degrees and reduce the spin speed to a minimum.

Product preparation

You should not be afraid of the possible washing of your tie in advance and go to the dry cleaner. It is possible to deal with stains at home, even on a silk product. The main thing is to act carefully and strictly according to the instructions.

Before any cleaning, the accessory must be prepared. The first stage is the previously mentioned study of the tag. If a basin with a hand is drawn on the label, then the tie prefers hand washing; if the icon is crossed out, then the product cannot be washed. The last option is found in items made of silk.

If there is an image of a crossed out basin on the tie tag, then washing the product is prohibited!

But even ties that do not like to be washed can be cleaned locally - that is, stains can be removed. It is necessary to apply a gentle stain remover to the contaminated area: moisten a cotton pad or cloth in the product, apply the scrap to the problem area and leave for 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, rub the cleaner inside, and remove the residue with a damp sponge.

If the stain remover does not cope with the task, you will have to go to the dry cleaner or wash the tie at home. The second option is simpler and more economical. We fix the fabric with cardboard wrapped in tape, select a detergent and start washing.

What to wash with?

When choosing a detergent, you must also focus on the manufacturer’s recommendations indicated on label. As a rule, many ties are chlorine intolerant - this will be indicated by a mark in the form of a shaded triangle (or a triangle with the word “CL”). It is important to clarify the possibility of bleaching.

Ideally, you should pay attention to the safest options.These include professional gels and concentrates designed specifically for delicate fabrics. Dry powder formulations are not suitable - granules do not dissolve well at low temperatures, penetrate deep into the fabric and damage the fibers.

An excellent alternative would be folk cleaners. To combat blood stains, it is better to choose ammonia; greasy stains will be removed by dish gel, and old stains can be easily removed with a paste of baking soda, salt and water.

Removing moisture from the item

We pay special attention to drying. Ties do not like strong squeezing and twisting. We strongly recommend that you abandon the drying program - artificial drying causes the fabric to fade and shrink.

Moisture is removed from the tie very carefully:

• the product is placed on a clean, dry terry towel;
• the fabric is straightened by hand;
• The tie is covered with the edge of a towel;
• The accessory is gently compressed.

After such a spin, the tie is dried in a vertical position in a warm, dry room away from heating devices and direct sunlight. The use of hair dryers, batteries, dryers and other artificial drying options is prohibited - delicate fabric will lose its original appearance. However, you are allowed to secure the accessory with a clothespin on a clothesline.

Ties cannot be wrung out or twisted - the product is easily deformed.

Before drying, be sure to smooth out all folds and creases. If the tie is still wrinkled, you can use an iron. The main thing is not to remove the cardboard “base” when ironing, as it will protect the product from deformation.

Washing a tie at home is not difficult if you carefully study the label and do not neglect the manufacturer's recommendations.But if in doubt, it’s better not to risk it and go to a dry cleaner.
