Washing stockings with silicone elastic
Most often, the silicone insert is found on compression stockings. Therefore, we will talk about washing rules using the example of these products. Let's look at the basic recommendations for caring for elastic knitwear.
Is it washable?
People wear compression garments for therapeutic and preventive purposes. Such items are sewn using a special technology; they have a compressive effect, thereby improving blood flow in the tissues. Many people are interested in the question of how to wash stockings with silicone elastic so as not to harm them or disrupt their beneficial properties.
You have to wear compression stockings every day and for many hours. As a result, they quickly get dirty, dirt and skin particles accumulate between the fibers of the fabric. Therefore, the issue of caring for elastic underwear is acute, since it has to be washed often.
It is better to wash stockings with silicone elastic by hand; you should avoid the washing machine. After purchasing compression garments, you need to study the instructions for it - the basic rules for caring for the item will be described there.. Be sure to follow several important recommendations:
- use gentle liquid detergents for washing;
- do not spin, do not twist elastic knitwear;
- ensure that the water temperature does not exceed 30-40°C;
- dry clothes exclusively in a horizontal position.
Compression stockings should not be ironed - high temperatures are harmful to the elastic material.
By following simple recommendations, you can preserve the appearance and properties of compression stockings for a long time.Let's figure out how often you should wash such laundry, what detergent to choose, and how to dry knitwear correctly.
Washing frequency
Anti-varicose stockings get dirty quite quickly. It is not recommended to wash compression garments every day - this will cause the products to lose their healing properties much faster. The acceptable frequency is two to three washes per week, but less often is better. It is necessary to focus on the degree of contamination of things.
Of course, there are situations when you have to break the frequency. For example, when wearing compression stockings after surgery. Then, for a couple of weeks, you can wash the anti-varicose linen daily.
For people who suffer from varicose veins or have a tendency to edema, it is better to have several pairs of compression socks. In this case, you have to wear supportive underwear constantly, and replaceable stockings will allow you not to do laundry every day, but also not to wear dirty clothes.
Choosing the right product
The service life of compression stockings directly depends on what detergent you wash them with. Conventional powders are not exactly prohibited, but their use is undesirable due to the aggressive components included in the composition. Also, the granules do not dissolve well in cool water and are not completely rinsed out of the fabric fibers.
It is recommended to wash elastic stockings with hypoallergenic gels to avoid irritation during wearing.
Gentle gels for synthetic and natural fabrics are good for washing compression garments. For example, “Synergetic hypoallergenic” or “Weasel. Wool and silk." Other liquid detergents for caring for baby clothes and delicate materials are also suitable.Such compositions work well even in cool water and are easier to rinse out of knitted fibers than powder.
Traditional wash
It is not recommended to throw anti-varicosis stockings into the washing machine. Some manufacturers allow washing on a delicate cycle, but this information should be clarified by studying the instructions for compression underwear. To play it safe, it is better to quickly wash the products by hand. The process will not take much effort and time. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- fill a basin with warm water (temperature 30-40°C);
- place the stockings in the container and wait until they are completely wet;
- add detergent to the water (usually one cap of gel is enough, but it is better to look at the dosage on the packaging of the composition);
- beat the soap foam with your hand;
- leave the stockings in soapy water for 10 minutes;
- Wash items with soft, gentle movements. You can rub the material only in the most contaminated places.
During the washing process, do not lift the stockings above the water - they may stretch under their own weight.
Having finished washing, start rinsing:
- pour the soapy liquid out of the basin;
- fill the container with clean water;
- rinse the products several times, changing the water until it becomes clear.
A very important moment is spinning compression products. Stockings with elastic bands should not be twisted, otherwise they will quickly become unusable. It is allowed to slightly squeeze the laundry so that the water gradually drains from them. You should hold the knee socks with both hands - this way they will not stretch under their own weight.
The silicone strip at the top of the stockings is processed separately. It is necessary to degrease it before washing with alcohol. It is advisable not to wet the insert during cleaning.
Drying the stockings
It is equally important to dry the therapeutic compression garments properly. If you wash the stockings, following all the recommendations, and then hang them to dry (which is prohibited), they will still lose their shape and properties. How to prevent items from stretching or shrinking after washing?
To ensure that compression stockings do not deform and retain their healing properties, they must be dried following the basic rules.
- Drying is carried out naturally, at a temperature of 22-25°C. The room should be well ventilated.
- It is forbidden to use a hairdryer for drying, hang stockings on hot radiators or place them near heating appliances. A sudden change in temperature will easily disrupt the compression properties of products.
- Anti-varicose stockings should not be laid out to dry in direct sunlight. Ultraviolet and heat exposure will have a detrimental effect on elastic knitwear.
- It is forbidden to hang compression garments on a rope, much less secure them with clothespins. Elastic material is very sensitive to such influence, so it can stretch in just a couple of hours.
- The best option is to dry clothes on a horizontal surface (table or special dryer).
To help absorb excess moisture faster, you can place a terry towel under your stockings for an hour or two. Compression garments should only be put on after they are completely dry. If the material is even slightly damp, you cannot wear it - the product will become deformed.
