Is it possible to wash wrestling shoes in the washing machine?
Wrestling shoes are special sports shoes worn by sambo wrestlers. High-quality models are usually made from genuine leather. Therefore, when caring for them, it is important to follow certain rules. Those who use these shoes often have questions about whether it is permissible to wash wrestling shoes in the washing machine. Will this cleaning method cause any harm?
Why is it better not to use a machine?
Features of caring for wrestling shoes depend on what materials they are made from. If genuine leather or split leather was used in the manufacture of shoes, it is not recommended to clean them in the drum of a washing machine. Intensive washing can cause the wrestling shoes to lose their shape and the leather to crack. It will be impossible to wear them after this procedure. Therefore, natural leather should only be cleaned by hand. For sambo training you can also use fabric wrestling shoes. Such models can be washed in a machine, but subject to certain rules.
- Less powder should be used than usual. It is better to halve the recommended dosage or abandon the product altogether, preferring washing gel.
- Before putting the wrestling shoes into the drum, they should be placed in a special bag for careful washing of clothes.
- Start one of the following operating modes of the washing machine: “Shoes”, “Hand Wash” or “Delicate Wash”.
- Turn off the spin or set the minimum number of revolutions, no more than 400.
- The water heating temperature should be no more than +300 C so that the material does not get damaged and retains its color.
Important! Sports shoes, including wrestling shoes, should be treated with care.The durability and reliability of the products depends on how delicate and proper the care is.
Traditional care
Expensive wrestling shoes made of genuine leather should be washed by hand. This way, it is more likely to preserve their appearance and quality. To do this, you can use the following tips:
- When cleaning wet suede, do not rub it with brushes or rags. Because of this, contaminants are absorbed deeper into the material. You can use a brush to remove dust, and then wipe off the shiny areas with a paper eraser. This helps remove remaining dirt and lift the suede fibers;
- If the wrestling shoes are very dirty, you should take a soft cloth or rubber brush and moisten it in soapy water. Wipe your shoes carefully so that they do not get wet through;
- After wet cleaning, blot the wrestling shoes from the inside and outside with a dry cloth. Take newspaper, put it inside the shoes and leave it to dry.
Athletes with experience know that shoes must be aired regularly: unlace, remove the insole. This helps get rid of unpleasant odor. You can also use special means for this purpose.
Proper drying
In some cases, the cause of damage to wrestling shoes is not washing, but violation of drying rules. After cleaning with liquid detergents, the shoes are dried at room temperature. They should not be placed on a radiator or on a surface heated by direct sunlight.. The inside of the wrestling suit should be stuffed with newspaper folded in several layers. This helps maintain shape.
Another rule concerns the drying time of sports shoes, especially those made of genuine leather.It should not be over-dried to prevent it from shrinking and becoming hard.
Wrestling shoes made of leatherette can also crack after drying for too long, as well as when using heating or heating devices, hair dryers, and dryers. The wrestling shoes should be dried for about 24 hours. Only after making sure that the pair is completely dry can you take it to training. You cannot wear wrestling shoes that are not dry, as this causes discomfort to your feet. In addition, a humid environment can cause rapid proliferation of various pathogenic microorganisms.
