How to choose a connecting element for a dryer?
Most dryer models can be installed in a column with a washing machine. The device for drying clothes is located on top and is fixed with special fasteners. We'll tell you how to choose a connecting element for a dryer, and what to look for when purchasing connecting kits.
Design features of connecting parts
There are two ways to attach the dryer to an automatic machine. The first option involves fixing the devices with bolts. In this case, you will have to drill holes in the SM and SMA for screws.
The second option is to place the machines in a column, securing the devices using the recesses in the connecting element and self-adhesive rubber bands. Experts also recommend additionally tightening the dryer and washing machine with a rafter belt.
Also, when choosing the second method, it is advisable to additionally attach the column connecting element to the wall. This is done through special lugs available on the docking kit, or using ties.
Often, docking brackets are included with the dryer.
If the manufacturer provides the possibility of placing a dryer in a column with a washing machine, then in most cases a proprietary connecting element is included. The instructions for the equipment will also describe exactly how to properly fix the dryer.
The design of some docking elements provides a built-in pull-out shelf for clothes. This makes it easier to load and unload things from devices. When choosing connecting brackets, pay attention to the presence of such an addition.
Examples of docking kits
There are universal connecting elements on sale, so there won’t be any special problems in choosing fasteners. We are talking about docking kits:
- SKK-DD (white);
- SKK-UDX (steel);
- SKK-UDW (white).
The universal connecting elements SKK-UDW and SKK-UDX are not suitable for Chinese-assembled Samsung brand dryers, with a maximum load of 6-8 kg and a cabinet depth of 55 cm. For such machines, you will need a set of SK-DA brackets, which are not provided by these docking kits.
You can see which docking kits are suitable for your SM model in the equipment instructions, in the “Installation” section.
Therefore, before purchasing a connection kit, it is better to look at the user manual. The manufacturer describes in detail how to attach the dryer to the washing machine and what is required for this.
Tips from the experts
Having settled on a vertical method of placing machines, it is worth considering a number of nuances. It is important to ensure the stability of the column so that the dryer does not fall during further operation. Let's talk about the main points that you need to focus on.
- Use only high-quality fasteners.
- Before installation, calculate how much load the wall will have to withstand. The column cannot be attached to a plasterboard surface.
- You cannot place the machines close to the wall; you must leave a small gap of a few centimeters (since the equipment will vibrate during operation).
- It is advisable to purchase a dryer and a machine from the same brand. This will make it possible to obtain a harmonious column; in addition, there will be no difficulties with the selection of fasteners.
- If the machines are from different manufacturers, then you need to choose devices of the same size. The body of the washer cannot be smaller than that of the dryer.
- You should not run the washing machine and dryer at the same time - this can create increased vibration and loosen the fastenings.
- The dryer must be placed on top, and in no case vice versa. The washing machine weighs much more, in addition, it vibrates more during operation.
If you doubt that you can securely fasten the column, it is better to entrust the installation to specialists. Our technicians will install the dryer over the washing machine quickly and correctly. The cost of such a service is low.
