Removing the top cover of a Bosch dishwasher

Removing the top cover of a Bosch dishwasherInstalling a PMM under a countertop is quite a painstaking task. Especially when the furniture was ordered before purchasing the “home assistant”. In this case, there is a high risk of “not guessing with the size” of the cabinet and the equipment itself.

What to do if the washing machine does not “fit” into the furniture set? You can gain a couple of centimeters by removing the top cover of the Bosch dishwasher. We'll tell you how to properly dismantle one of the panels of the PMM housing.

Why remove the cover?

The top panel can be removed from stationary dishwashers. If the dimensions of the PMM coincide with the height of the niche, then the equipment will not fit under the countertop. Typically, freestanding dishwashers take up 85 cm in height, and by removing the lid you can “save 1.5-2 cm. Then you can install the device in a furniture set.why remove the dishwasher lid

Before you begin disassembling the cabinet, measure whether the dishwasher without a lid will fit under the countertop. Even if this doesn’t help you fit the machine into the niche, consider remodeling your kitchen. The set can be raised with the help of additional legs - this solution is often used by designers.

Removing the cover with your own hands

Removing the cover on Bosch PMMs is easier than on appliances from other brands, such as Beko or Whirlpool. During dismantling, you only need a screwdriver. Sometimes you can do it even without it. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • go around the PMM - you will have to work with the rear part of the case;
  • find the latches located at the top, on both sides of the dishwasher body;
  • release the latches (if they do not respond, use a screwdriver to help yourself, but be careful not to damage the plastic latches);
  • Having dealt with the fastenings, slide the cover, removing it from the grooves.Dishwasher lid release clips

On some models of Bosch dishwashers, another method for removing the lid may work:

  • fully open the PMM door;
  • take a teaspoon;
  • use the handle of a spoon to push the left and right latches securing the lid;
  • remove the top panel of the PMM Bosch.

After removing the dishwasher lid, be sure to insulate the space underneath with special material.

Before placing the dishwasher without a lid under the countertop, insulate the area that is exposed with a sheet of foil or any other non-flammable material. Firstly, this is necessary to protect the insides of the PMM from water ingress. Secondly, so that the metal parts of the dishwasher cannot cause furniture to catch fire or cause electric shock to users.dismantling progress of the PMM cover

If the space is not sealed, water entering the dishwasher can cause a short circuit and fire. This is truly a very important point that should not be missed. Therefore, carefully close the “insides” of the PMM before installing it in the kitchen set.

How are covers removed on PMMs of other brands?

It is not always possible to remove the cover only by releasing the latches. With dishwashers of other brands you will have to act differently. For example, owners of PMM Indesit and Hotpoint-Ariston will need:

  • turn the dishwasher back towards you;
  • find two screws located on the side;
  • unscrew the screws;
  • slide the cover and remove it.Removing the PMM Virpul cover

Owners of Beko dishwashers will have to proceed as follows:

  • Find the mounting bolts in the upper corners of the rear wall;
  • tighten the screws using a screwdriver;
  • move the top panel slightly back;
  • remove the dishwasher lid.

There are Beko models in which the housing cover is removed only when assembled with the rear panel. Then the algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • turn the back of the machine towards you;
  • Unscrew the screws securing the rear panel of the PMM housing (usually it is secured with 5 bolts);
  • move the wall to the side, at an angle of 90 degrees to the body;
  • remove the panel from the grooves, along with the top cover.

If this happens with a new dishwasher, then you should think about a warranty card. For the subsequent validity of the warranty, it is important that the process of dismantling the cover is authorized by the manufacturer. If the user does not have access to such work, the coupon will be canceled, and in the future it will no longer be possible to repair the PMM for free at the service center.

Removing the top panel of a Bosch dishwasher, like machines of any other brand, is, in principle, simple. The main thing is to do everything carefully so as not to deform the latches holding the panel. If for dismantling it is necessary to unscrew the bolts, then hide the removed screws in a certain place. In the future, it will be difficult to buy similar fasteners to secure the top panel back.
