How to remove the lock of an Indesit washing machine?
To remove the UBL of an Indesit washing machine, you do not need any special tools or many years of experience. Anyone can dismantle the lock; during the work you only need a screwdriver and a hexagon. If you follow the instructions, you can complete the task in literally 10-15 minutes. Let's talk about the upcoming process in more detail.
Removal of UBL
You won't have to prepare for work for a long time. All you need to do is bring a screwdriver and a hex wrench to the machine - the tools you will need to remove the fasteners. Be sure to turn off the power to the equipment, disconnect the machine from the water supply and sewerage and move it away from the wall. This will allow free access to the rear wall of the case. The further algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Unscrew a couple of bolts securing the housing cover;
- remove the top panel by lightly pushing it forward and lifting it (this will cause the latches to engage and the cover to give way);
- tilt the machine slightly back and slide your hand down the front wall;
- feel for the chip with the UBL wiring (if you can’t find the part, use a flashlight);
- Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the locking device (with your free hand it is better to hold the lock on the other side so that it does not fall);
- Pull the released lock out through the top of the washer.
You can get to the UBL on Indesit either through the top of the machine or through the front wall by removing the hatch cuff.
When the first method fails to dismantle the blocking device, you can try to remove it in another way. For this:
- open the machine door wide;
- pull out the outer clamp securing the hatch cuff;
- tuck the rubber seal inside the drum;
- unscrew the door;
- remove the locking mechanism along with the UBL.
It is still better for a beginner to try to reach the blocker through the top of the washer. In this case, you do not have to touch the cuff. Returning the rubber seal to its place is not so easy; due to inexperience, making a mistake, you can easily break the seal of the machine, which will lead to leaks.
Let's test the lock correctly
Before you run to the store for a new locking device, be sure to test the old lock. It is possible that it is fully functional and will not need to be changed. Find the UBL electronic circuit in the machine manual. To check the blocker, you will need a multimeter.
The tester turns on and switches to resistance measurement mode. Afterwards, one multimeter probe is applied to the “zero”, the second – to the “phase” of the blocker. Next, you need to evaluate the readings displayed on the display. If this is a three-digit number, then the UBL is normal. Other values will indicate a malfunction.
The hatch locking device cannot be repaired - you will have to buy and install a new lock.
Finding a similar replacement part is very easy. Blockers are sold in specialized stores and are inexpensive. When choosing components, be sure to tell the seller the serial number of the machine and the model name.
What causes a lock to break?
In some cases, the user may notice that the door of the Indesit washing machine only closes halfway. Only the mechanical “tab” works, but the hatch does not lock. In this situation, there are problems with UBL. This means that the control module does not receive a signal that the system is sealed, so the “brain” does not start the wash.
When such a malfunction occurs, the indicator on the control panel of the washing machine usually flashes. Modern models with a self-diagnosis system display an error code corresponding to the problem.
What is electronic recording even used for? It is necessary to protect the door from accidentally swinging open. Due to the locking device, the hatch cannot be opened, even if force is applied. This prevents leakage. If the locking device is broken, the machine will not start the cycle. Various factors can lead to such a malfunction. Let's figure out which ones exactly.
- Trivial wear and tear. If the machine has been in use for several years, the bimetallic plates of the blocker wear out. This disrupts the electrical conductivity of the part and the operation of the mechanism as a whole. Repair will not help in this situation; the UBL will have to be changed.
- Blockage. It happens that the blocking device chip simply becomes clogged with dust and other debris. In this case, cleaning will help restore the element’s functionality.
- Problems with the control module. Sometimes the reason is not in the UBL itself, but in the electronic unit receiving the signals. If tracks on the board burn out or triacs break, the “brain” cannot properly control the operation of the washing machine. As a result, the machine does not block the door.
If the problem is in the lock, then anyone can fix the machine. It is enough to remove the device following the described instructions, clean it or replace it with a new one. If the reason is in the control module, then it is not recommended to carry out repairs yourself. You can only make the situation worse if you get into electronics without sufficient knowledge and experience. It is better to entrust the diagnosis of the main unit to specialists.
