How to remove the drum of a Bosch washing machine?
The need to remove the drum of a Bosch washing machine often occurs when there are problems with the bearing assembly. To replace bearings or adjust the shaft, you will have to almost completely disassemble the machine, remove counterweights, shock absorbers, tank and many other key elements. It is important to do everything consistently and carefully, otherwise there is a high risk of damaging parts and aggravating the situation. We suggest you figure out how Bosch is disassembled. Here is a list of necessary tools and step-by-step instructions.
Prepare thoroughly first
Disassembling the washing machine will go smoothly and without surprises if you act consistently and prepare for the procedure in advance. Preparation includes several activities at once. First of all, you need to find a place suitable for repairs - at least 4 sq.m., well lit and ventilated. For example, a garage, workshop or corridor. Be sure to arrange the room, cover the floor with oilcloth and a rag, since the work ahead will be dirty and wet.
In addition to preparing the site, you must:
- read the instructions for the machine, as well as the attached electrical diagram;
- collect the required tools and materials;
- prepare the washing machine for disassembly;
- remember safety precautions.
Before disassembling the washing machine, you must study the factory instructions and other accompanying documentation.
After studying the instructions, you can assemble the tools. The first one on the list is a screwdriver; in its absence, a Phillips and flat-head screwdriver. Next, we find a set of wrenches, a hammer, a figure-eight wrench, pliers, a multimeter, a wrench, a chisel or a recess.A felt-tip pen, WD-40 cleaner, sealant and silicone grease will also come in handy. To drain the water from the machine, you will need a rag and a suitable container.
To facilitate reassembly, it is recommended to film the disassembly process with a photo or video camera. This makes it easier to track your actions and return all the spare parts to their designated places. Particular attention must be paid to the wiring, since reconnection must be carried out strictly at the specified terminals and positions.
Getting to the main hub
Even a novice technician can get to the drum of a Bosch washing machine on his own, the main thing is to act carefully and strictly according to the instructions. The first stage of disassembly involves removing all elements in contact with the tanks: from the pressure switch and engine to shock absorbers and wiring. To make the work go faster and easier, it is recommended to adhere to the given sequence.
- Disconnect the machine from communications. In simple words, unplug the power cord from the outlet and turn off the water.
- Remove the top cover. It is enough to unscrew the screws holding the “top” from the back panel, and then push and lift, unlatching the latches.
- Unhook the dashboard. The board is held in place by several clamps that need to be loosened. The first pair of fasteners can be found behind the powder receptacle, and the rest are located around the perimeter of the module. There is no need to completely disconnect the element: just put it on top of the machine or hang it on the provided side hook.
- Drain the remaining water in the washer. To do this, find the technical hatch door in the lower right corner, hook it with a flat-head screwdriver and disconnect it from the body. Then we place a container under the garbage filter, cover it with rags, unscrew the plug and collect the leaking liquid.For convenience, you can tilt the washing machine forward.
- Release the end. To remove the front panel from the Bosch, you must first tackle the hatch door. More precisely, find a clamp on the cuff, pick it up with a tool, loosen it, and then insert the elastic into the drum. Next, unscrew all the screws around the perimeter of the front wall, pull it towards you and move it away from the body a few centimeters. A gap of 2-3 cm is enough to disconnect the wiring from the UBL and remove the blocker. The entire end is cleaned up after it.
- Remove small parts. You will need to disconnect all wiring connected to the tank, as well as the heating element, pump, inlet valve and water level sensor. Be sure to unhook the pipe connecting the drum and the detergent tray. It is important to carry out all manipulations as carefully as possible, since the risk of damage to parts is high.
- Remove counterweights. All Bosch models have two concrete blocks under the top cover that help dampen the vibrations emanating from the drum. To remove them, unscrew the central bolts and swing them around. But be prepared for the fact that concrete is very heavy - it is better to enlist someone’s help.
- Remove the shock absorbers. The racks securing the tank and the upper springs are unscrewed.
It is better to remove the tank and counterweights with an assistant: these elements are very heavy.
The empty tank can be pulled out of the housing. We grab the edges of the drum, lift it and pull it towards us. The main thing is to be prepared for the fact that the container is very heavy.
The removed tank must be placed on a previously prepared dry surface with a cross on top. Then unscrew the retaining bolt from the motor and release the engine.
Disassembling the machine is an opportunity to fully test the washing machine for functionality.Thus, it is recommended to carefully inspect each element being removed and test it with a multimeter. Don’t forget about the accompanying cleaning: it is advisable to rinse all contaminated parts, heating elements, pipes, pump, powder receiver and drain filter under water to remove soap deposits and remove all adhered debris.
We extract and parse the required element
The disassembly of the machine is completed by “removing” the drum. Naturally, you cannot halve the tank with your bare hands - the structure is reliably protected from depressurization. In order not to damage the “shell”, it is necessary to clarify the material and method of connecting the tank tank.
Most Bosch washing machines come with collapsible plastic tanks, making them easier to separate. To halve the tank, just loosen the clamps or unscrew the bolts around the perimeter. In the first case, we use a screwdriver or a knife, in the second, we take out a screwdriver.
Then the sequence is like this:
- remove the lower half of the tank;
- dismantle the pulley;
- Insert a bolt in place of the pulley and knock out the shaft.
If the shaft does not give in, then you need to generously lubricate the joint with WD-40 and repeat the procedure after 15 minutes. Afterwards, the drum will leave the tank and will be ready for subsequent repair of the bearing assembly or other planned manipulations.
