How to lubricate the bearing of an LG washing machine?
A sudden noise from a running automatic machine, in most cases, indicates problems with the bearing assembly. If the noise when the drum rotates is very strong, the rings and seal will probably need to be replaced. When the knocking noise is barely perceptible, you may be able to eliminate it by lubricating the bearings. Processing of components should not be delayed for long. It is better to immediately lubricate the bearing on an LG direct drive washing machine when a problem is identified. Let's figure out how to do this.
Features of part lubrication
If you notice that the machine begins to rumble while the drum rotates, you need to check its bearings. Inspect the rings for damage. If there are no defects, then it is permissible not to perform a replacement, but simply lubricate the components. New parts purchased for installation instead of broken old ones are also processed.
Before lubricating the bearings installed in the machine, be sure to clean them with WD-40.
When the bearing is dismountable, before processing it is necessary to remove its top “cover” and put lubricant inside. The product is applied to the inner ring, which is in contact with the bushing. The oil seal must also be lubricated.
You will have to tinker a little with the non-separable bearing. Its cover cannot be removed, so the lubricant is introduced inside in a cunning way. To begin with, the ring is also cleaned using aerosol WD-40. Then you need to:
- fill the inner race of the bearing with a regular bag;
- cut the tube of lubricant so that the hole is the same size as the ring being processed;
- place the tube with the product on the inside of the bearing;
- press on the packaging until the lubricant “comes out” from the back side;
- roll the polyethylene so that the substance is evenly distributed inside;
- Wipe off excess product with a rag.
It is also important to treat the sealing gum. The oil seal is always lubricated at the same time as the bearings. This is done with an ordinary syringe - the internal recess of the gasket is filled with the composition, then the seal is installed in place.
What characteristics should a lubricant have?
On the shelves you can find various lubricants for automatic machine components. Each composition has its own characteristics. The following product is suitable for working with bearings:
- moisture resistant. It is very important that moisture does not get to the drum bearings. Therefore, the lubricant must be resistant to water. Due to this, it will not wash out over time;
- resistant to high and low temperatures. The lubricant must easily withstand temperature changes. The washing machine, during operation, can heat water up to 95°C. In addition, the shaft, during the rotation of the drum, becomes very hot. Therefore, only a heat-resistant product in such conditions will retain its properties and be able to protect the bearings from moisture;
- Suitable for processing rubber parts. A seal lubricated with the wrong compound may harden or, conversely, soften. This will result in the oil seal being unable to perform its protective function;
- thick. Due to this, the product will not leak out during further operation of the automatic machine.
You should not use automotive lubricants to repair washing machines; they are ineffective when treating the components of the bearing assembly.
Washing machine repair technicians recommend using the following products to treat bearings:
- This is a waterproof lubricant made in Italy. Has excellent protective properties.
- Composition developed specifically for LG automatic machines. Sold in cans and syringes for single use.
- STABURAGS NBU 12. A product that has earned many positive reviews. The composition is moisture resistant, withstands significant temperature changes, while maintaining its properties.
- Liquid Moly "Silicon-Fett". Silicone grease from a German manufacturer. Release form: tubes weighing 50 grams. A high-quality product ideal for processing automatic machine bearings.
When purchasing lubricant for processing bearings and oil seals, always study the characteristics of the composition. It would also be a good idea to read reviews from experts about the chosen product.
Let's start disassembling the case
It is not possible to lubricate the bearings without disassembling the drum on LG machines. To get to the parts, you will have to remove the tank from the washing machine. Before starting repairs, be sure to turn off the power to the equipment.
The work process begins with disassembling the machine body. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- turn off the tap responsible for the water supply;
- unhook the drain and inlet hoses from the body;
- Unscrew the screws that secure the housing cover;
- remove the top panel and set it aside;
- remove the powder tray;
- remove the bolts holding the rear wall of the case, remove the panel;
- Unscrew the screws holding the control panel (they are located behind the cuvette and on the opposite side of the “tidy”);
- deal with the plastic clips and unhook the control panel from the case.There is no need to disconnect the wiring of the device - just carefully place the board on top of the machine. Just in case, it’s better to take a photo of how the contacts are connected;
- Open the washer door completely;
- remove the outer clamp securing the hatch cuff;
- insert the sealing collar into the drum;
- Unscrew the bolts securing the UBL, unhook the wires from the blocker;
- remove the screws located around the perimeter of the front wall of the case;
- remove the front panel.
Disassembly of the case is completed. Next, you will need to unhook from the tank all components, sensors and wires that interfere with its free removal. Let's tell you what elements we are talking about.
Getting to the bearing unit
Now you need to remove from the machine all the parts that interfere with dismantling the tank. First, deal with the upper counterweight. The concrete block is located immediately under the housing cover. Unscrew the bolts holding it and remove the weighting material.
Afterwards you can remove the dispenser. To do this, you need to release the clamp that secures the pipe to the tray. The intake valve tubes are also connected to the “hopper”. They can either be unhooked from the dispenser, or the cuvette can be pulled out along with the solenoid valve.
The subsequent algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- unhook the pressure switch from the tank;
- remove the counterweights located at the front;
- remove the heating element (to do this, reset the contacts of the heating element and loosen the nut securing it);
- disconnect the drain pipe from the tank, first loosening its clamp;
- unscrew the bolts of the shock-absorbing springs;
- carefully lift the tank - this will help remove it from the hooks;
- remove the tank-drum assembly from the machine.
It is impossible to lubricate the bearings without disassembling the drum.Therefore, you will have to work with the tank to gain access to its “insides”. The unit is placed on a flat horizontal surface, then the hatch cuff is removed.
The pulley can then be disconnected from the tank. The "drum" wheel will be removed after removing the central screw. The assembly is now ready for disassembly. To halve the tank, you need to unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the connecting seam. Afterwards the tank will easily separate into two parts. Next, remove the drum - this will give access to the bearings and oil seal.
