Pros and cons of washer dryers
Automatic washing machines make the life of a modern person much easier. Washing machines with a drying function help even more. In this case, housewives do not need to hang wet laundry and then remove it, which saves a lot of time. Therefore, more and more often, buyers are considering washing and drying equipment. What are the pros and cons of washer dryers? How can they be useful? Let's look into all the nuances.
Why do people buy such washing machines?
When choosing a new washing machine, consumers are increasingly paying attention to models with a drying option. Before buying such equipment, it is worth considering some nuances. Let's look at the main pros and cons of multifunctional equipment.
An undoubted advantage is that when choosing a machine with a drying function, the need to purchase an additional drying machine is eliminated.
What is remarkable about the presence of such a function? The laundry removed from the automatic machine with the drying option can only be ironed and put into the closet. The washing machine generates warm air and blows it over already clean items. There are three types of drying machines:
- adjustable by timer (at the end of the cycle the user needs to set the drying time);
- mode-controlled (when the washing is completed, the housewife needs to run one of the programs: “Iron”, “Into the closet”, “Quick dry”);
- controlled by a sensor (the user sets the percentage of residual moisture of the fabric, and the machine dries things until the specified value is reached).
Many housewives choose such machines to forever forget about the things hanging on the balcony or in the apartment.This way, the laundry won’t be left hanging on the dryer for several days, which means the house will become much more comfortable.
Main advantages
Undoubtedly, washing and drying machines have many advantages. Managers in household appliance stores will be happy to describe all the advantages of such models. Let's look at the main advantages of machines with a drying function.
- Save time. Housewives do not have to hang laundry on lines or special dryers. In addition, you will not need to wait a day, and sometimes more, for things to dry. This is especially true for young mothers, when they have to do a lot of laundry and there is simply nowhere to hang children’s clothes.
- Space saving. If you plan to buy a separate drying machine, you need to take into account that it will take up space in the apartment. It will also be more expensive. It is much more practical to immediately purchase a machine with a drying option; it will not differ in size from a regular washing machine without this function.
- No dust. During the drying process on ropes or radiators, things collect a large amount of dust. When using a washer-dryer, not only your clothes, but also your home will be cleaner.
- Getting rid of dampness. When wet clothes are hung up to dry in the apartment, the rooms feel damp, “stale” air. In addition, if clothes do not dry for a long time, bacteria begin to multiply in the fibers of the fabric. Owners of washer-dryers can forget about the problem of constant dampness.
- Empty balcony. Having bought a machine with a dryer, you will no longer have to clutter the loggia with things, blocking the supply of sunlight to the apartment.
- Aesthetic effect. Linen hung on dryers, interior doors or radiators noticeably spoils the appearance of the room.The machine will help you get rid of this problem, and you won’t have to blush in front of unexpected guests.
Washer-dryers are a great option for people with allergies to dust or dampness.
There are really many advantages of machines with a drying function. In addition to saving time, they can solve some health problems. It will be much easier for allergy sufferers to stay in an apartment where there are no dryers with wet clothes hanging out.
Obvious disadvantages
Any household appliance is not without its drawbacks. When thinking about buying a washer-dryer, it is better to familiarize yourself with the disadvantages of such equipment in advance. To some, they will seem like nonsense, and some may change their minds about buying a machine with a dryer.
- Small volume. For example, if the machine is designed for 6-7 kg of laundry, then you will only be able to dry half of it at a time - 3-3.5 kg of clothes. The user will have to run two loops. If we talk about a full-fledged dryer, it has a more spacious chamber, which eliminates this problem.
- Increased energy consumption. It is worth understanding that a machine with a drying option will “eat up” one and a half times more kilowatts than a regular washing machine.
- Modest software capabilities. The functionality of “double” machines, in comparison with a freestanding dryer, is quite limited. They usually do not have different modes, for example “Very dry”, “Dry by fabric type”, etc.
- Lack of a humidity sensor. We are talking about models from the low and middle price segment. The timer is not entirely convenient because the laundry can remain damp or, on the contrary, become very dry.
- Higher cost. If we compare standard machines and machines with a drying function, the latter will cost more.
- Less reliable compared to a separate stationary dryer. During drying, the flow of hot air generated by the machine has a bad effect on some internal parts of the machine. For example, bearings and seals on washing machines with a drying function will have to be changed more often.
If you compare a washer with dryer option and a separate dryer, the latter has an air filter that collects all the dust from the clothes. Conventional machines do not have such a filter element, so dust particles remain on things and settle on the internal parts of the equipment.
Machines with a drying function, like any equipment, are not without drawbacks. However, here you need to look at what you have to choose between. If you can buy a washer and dryer separately, that’s great. When deciding between an automatic machine with or without this option, of course, it is better to give preference to a more multifunctional unit.
The main disadvantage is that the laundry dried in such a washer-dryer smells unpleasant. Some kind of rubber.
