Why doesn't the washing machine spin one item?
Many housewives do their laundry not every day, but once a week on the weekends, when they not only have time, but also have enough laundry for one working cycle. At the same time, there are occasionally situations when you need to urgently clean just one product. Unfortunately, in this situation you can often find that the washing machine does not spin out one item. That is, the washing and rinsing stage goes without problems, and then during the spin cycle the machine simply stops. Let's figure out why this happens and how you can fix this yourself.
The system that protects the machine from imbalance is to blame
Most often, the reason for the “home assistant’s” refusal to do one thing is hidden in the technology for protecting equipment from imbalance. This useful feature is present in almost every modern washing machine, so it is not surprising that housewives have problems with spinning small amounts of laundry. It is thanks to imbalance control that the SM always responds in a timely manner to any problems related to the balance of the machine.
Everything happens due to a special sensor that detects either uneven distribution of clothing in the system, or other dangerous deviations from the norm. As soon as a problem is detected, the sensor will send a signal to the control module, and it will first try to eliminate the malfunction, and if it fails, it will simply stop the current operating cycle so as not to aggravate the situation. If the imbalance of the drum is not prevented, then due to a large lump of wet clothes, excessively strong vibration may appear, followed by jumping of household appliances and mechanical damage to internal key components. This can lead to damage to the bearings, shaft cross, and drum surface.
However, this usually happens due to a heavily loaded drum, so if only one item is loaded, the user will not face such serious problems. However, in this situation, the control board still reacts to imbalance, which occurs because the imbalance detection function does not work perfectly. The fact is that often the “home assistant” perceives one wet thing as a lump of clothes that threatens the balance of the system and the entire shock-absorbing system.
So what to do in this situation? It is noteworthy that such an error in the operation of the washing machine can occur every now and then, and most often it can be found in equipment from the Korean brands LG and Samsung. There is no ideal way out of the situation, because there are no guarantees that the problem will be fixed the first time. Most often, it is enough to simply remove the product from the drum, squeeze it a little by hand, load it back into the CM, spread it evenly along the walls and activate a separate spin cycle.
If this does not help correct the situation, then you should try to repeat the steps again.
There is also a known way to solve this problem using an ordinary balloon. The idea is to fill the ball with about five glasses of plain water, then tie it securely and place it inside the washing machine drum next to the item that needs to be washed. According to users of washing machines, due to this action, the equipment stops responding to drum imbalance, so the operating cycle proceeds without incident.
The machine freezes on the spin cycle regardless of the load
We described a case where the system freezes after loading one dirty thing. But what to do if the washing machine does not work well even with a normal load of laundry? This can happen for a variety of reasons.
- Forgotten shipping bolts. These fasteners are installed in the SM so that it can be safely transported from place to place without risking the tank and drum, which can fail if they are not secured. At the same time, if the user forgot to remove the bolts and started the wash, then because of this, the key components of the washer may fail, and the household appliance itself will require expensive repairs. Usually there are four such transport locks, and they can be found on the back wall of the device.
Starting a work cycle with the transport bolts not removed will void the warranty, so be extremely careful when installing your brand new “home assistant”.
- Incorrect installation. Also, the formation of imbalance is directly affected by the placement of household appliances, because the more stable the machine is, the less vibration there will be during operation. It is best to place the equipment on concrete or tiles, and then carefully level the position using adjustable legs and a building level. For additional safety, you can purchase a special anti-slip carpet and attachments for the legs. However, it is strictly not recommended to place the washing machine on wooden floors, linoleum, laminate, carpets and other unstable surfaces.
- Damaged shock absorbing system. To reduce the formation of vibration and imbalance, the CM contains shock absorbers that smooth out drum shocks. But if the parts have become unusable, or the fasteners are simply weakened, then the dampers will no longer be able to effectively dampen vibration. It is very easy to check the elements - you just need to remove the top panel of the machine, press on the tank and see what happens to it. If it does not jump a few centimeters and does not stop, but begins to swing chaotically, then you will have to start replacing the shock-absorbing system.
- Failure of counterweights. Also, manufacturers of household appliances use concrete counterweights to ensure that their products are able to effectively suppress the centrifugal force from the drum, especially during spinning. Several such concrete counterweights are placed at once - on top, on the side, and sometimes also on the bottom, in order to effectively fix the tank from all sides. If such a load is deformed or destroyed, then an imbalance will occur in the system, due to which the vibration will not be dampened, the washing machine will begin to bounce during operation, and its internal components will bang against each other. To correct the situation, you will have to partially disassemble the machine, examine the counterweights and either fix them more securely if the fixing bolts have become loose, or replace them when chips and cracks cannot be repaired.
Minor damage to concrete counterweights can be easily repaired using cement mortar and ordinary PVA glue.
- Bearing failure. Finally, the problem could be due to the destruction of the bearing assembly, which you can recognize due to the slow rotation of the drum, as well as loud clanging noises during the washing process. It is very difficult to diagnose and restore this unit on your own, so it is better to call a repair service at home so as not to accidentally damage the “home assistant” even more.
Do not use damaged household appliances under any circumstances, because this way you will not only not be able to get a quality wash, but also risk aggravating the situation. Always carefully monitor the performance of your washing machine so that at the first sign of a problem you can immediately begin repairs.
