How to drain water from a Bosch washing machine?

How to drain water from a Bosch washing machineRepairing a machine that freezes during washing should only be done after the drum is completely empty. It is important not to get confused, drain the water from the tank and only then proceed with inspection and repair. Otherwise, interference with technology will end in a flood, a short circuit, or worse.

Let's figure out how to drain water from a Bosch washing machine that has stopped in the middle of the cycle. We present all the methods, their advantages and risks.

What methods are there?

The safest way to empty the machine is through the special “Drain” program. But often the machine “freezes”, the dashboard does not work, so it is necessary to forcefully drain the water manually. There are four ways to do this:

  • through the drain hose, without turning on the pump;
  • unscrewing the drainage filter - “trash can”;
  • forced opening of the hatch;
  • disconnecting the drum pipe.

Before emergency draining, the Bosch washing machine must be de-energized and disconnected from the water supply.

The forced drain method is selected according to the situation and user capabilities. Each option requires preparation and has its own risks. Having decided on the method, disconnect the washing machine from the power supply, turn off the water and begin work.

Through the trash can

If the machine breaks down during the washing process, it is easier to empty the drum using a drainage filter. This is a spiral-shaped plastic attachment, which is located in the lower right corner of the machine behind the technical hatch door. It got the name “trash can” for its function - the water leaving the tank necessarily passes through the spiral, and debris and foreign objects that get into the washer cling to the plastic.This way the system is protected from clogging of the pump and impeller.

It’s easy to drain water through the trash can:removing water through a garbage filter

  • use a slotted screwdriver to hook the false panel;
  • release the latches and remove the door;
  • we find the “trash can” plug – a dark “washer”;
  • tilt the machine back, lean it against the wall and place a basin to collect water;
  • cover the space surrounding the washing machine with oilcloth and rags;
  • holding the “handle” of the plug, slowly unscrew it until water flows out of it (there is no need to completely remove the spiral - the pressure will be too strong!);
  • drain all the water from the tank.

You cannot unscrew the garbage filter after a high-temperature cycle - there is a risk of getting burned by boiling water.

This method has only two drawbacks. Firstly, it cannot be used if there is hot water in the tank - a stream of boiling water can seriously burn you. Secondly, you will have to put up with a dirty floor, since even a basin and an abundance of rags will not save you from a small soapy flood. But draining through the “garbage bin” is the fastest, easiest and safest - the main thing is to follow all safety precautions.

Will it work through the hose?

In some cases, you can quickly empty the drum of water through the drain hose. It is important that access to the sewer system is free, and there is a place for drainage of waste liquid - a large basin, washbasin or bathtub. The draining process looks like this:

  • disconnect the hose from the riser by loosening the fixing clamp;
  • unhook the hose from the “back” of the body by removing the plastic latch from the base of the hose;
  • lower the corrugation below the washing machine tank, placing the end disconnected from the sewer in the washbasin or prepared container;
  • drain the water until the flow dries up.

It is impossible to empty Bosch manufactured after 2015 through the drain hose.

removal of water through a hose by gravity

The simple method has a significant “minus” - not all Bosch washing machines can be emptied this way. The fact is that modern machines are protected from the “siphon effect”, spontaneous leakage or intake from the sewer, for which a special loop or check valve is built into the system. With such equipment, it will be impossible to empty the washing machine through the hose.

As a rule, a check valve is installed in Bosch manufactured in 2016 and later. You can check the presence of a loop in the user manual.

Risky way through the hatch

If you cannot empty the drum through a hose or garbage filter, you will have to take drastic action - open the door and scoop out the water manually. But first you need to assess how full the tank is and play it safe by tilting the machine back. As a rule, the liquid level in the washing machine exceeds the lower limit of the hatch, and if you immediately and sharply open the door, a real flood will occur.

So, we proceed as follows:

  • tilt the machine back;
  • open the door;
  • Use a mug or ladle to gradually empty the tank.

risky way through the hatch

Simple instructions are complicated by only one thing - opening the hatch of a frozen washing machine is not so easy. When the cycle starts, the electronic lock is automatically activated, after which it will no longer be possible to unlock the door in the standard way, using the handle. You'll have to do it another way:

  • prepare a long and thin cord;
  • insert the rope into the hole between the hatch and the washing machine body where the locking mechanism is located;
  • pulling the ends, place the twine as deep as possible;
  • Pull the loop until you hear a click from the lock opening.

You can only open a machine full of water if for some reason you cannot use other drainage methods.It is worth understanding that manually emptying the drum is very long and difficult - you will have to spend a lot of time on monotonous work. Also, in this situation, you won’t be able to drain everything; a certain part of the liquid will remain in the tank and pipes.

Removing the pipe

pour water through the pipeThere is another option for forced drainage - disconnecting the drum pipe. It is better to resort to it only as a last resort, if all the previous ones have not worked. It is more difficult to use, but the effect will be stronger: you can not only empty the machine, but also remove the cause of the freeze. There is a high probability that the machine broke down due to a clogged hose.

Water drains through the pipe as follows:

  • The top of the washer is removed, followed by the back;
  • there is a pipe going from the drum to the pump;
  • Place a container under the hose and rags for safety;
  • use pliers to loosen the clamp securing the hose to the pump;
  • the pipe is detached from the pump and lowered into the basin.

If water does not drain through the pipe, it means it is clogged - you must first clean the hose.

The complexity of the method is that it is difficult to get to the pipe: you need to move the body away from the wall, partially disassemble the machine and crawl under the drum. But the water will completely leave the tank.
