How long does the rinse cycle last in a washing machine?
Owners of washing machines rarely think that when choosing one program or another, they launch a complex technological process that includes several areas at once: washing itself, rinsing the clothes, spinning, and in certain models also drying. Each of them affects the duration of the program and, accordingly, the consumption of water and electricity. The cycle that consumes the largest volume of water is the rinse mode.
How much does the machine spend on rinsing?
Rinsing in a washing machine lasts, on average, a quarter of an hour and depends on the model of the household appliance. So, Korean manufacturers have made this mode as short as possible; it takes no more than 10 minutes. On the one hand, this allows you to save resources, and on the other hand, it affects the quality of washing things: often the laundry in LG and Samsung washing machines contains residues of washing powder. Correct selection of the program allows you to avoid such consequences.
The highest quality rinse mode is inherent in washing machines from German manufacturers. The time they spend cleaning laundry from detergent is at least 13 minutes. However, this quality of washing is ensured by increased water consumption. Also, the “Germans” always have an additional rinse function, thanks to which things get rid of even the smallest particles of powder.
Many modern washing machines are equipped with a similar option. If the housewife notices that the laundry has not been cleaned well enough with detergent, she can send it to be rinsed additionally, and in the future, turn on the desired function immediately when choosing a washing program.
Why may cycle times vary?
Although the time of all components of the washing cycles is included in the program by the manufacturer, it periodically differs even in the same mode. This depends on the additional options selected at the same time as the care program.
- Washing temperature. The higher it is, the longer it will take to heat the water, and the longer this or that cycle of the mode itself will last. So, in order to wash clothes in hot water, the washing machine will need a quarter of an hour more than with delicate care in water with a temperature of 30-40 degrees. The longest is the boiling mode.
- Pre-soaking. This function is used for very dirty clothes or laundry with dried, “old” stains. Any mode supplemented with this option will last 15 minutes longer.
- Spin. The higher the speed, the drier the laundry the housewife gets, but also the longer the washing machine runs. So, spinning things at 1200 rpm, the device will take 4-5 minutes more than at a delicate 400 rpm.
- Intelligent mode. Present in more expensive models and designed for independent selection of washing modes with a household appliance, depending on the load on the drum, type of fabric and soiling of items. The quality of washing in this mode is better, but the operating time of the unit is significantly increased.
The duration of operation of a household appliance is affected not only by modes and additional functions, but also by the condition of the unit. Thus, limescale deposits that form on the heating element during operation of the washing machine increases the time it takes to heat the water to the desired temperature, which prolongs its operating time.It is noteworthy that when choosing low temperature conditions, this does not happen.
How long do wash programs last?
Regardless of the models and manufacturers of washing machines, the washing time in them is, on average, the same, and the differences are insignificant. Standard programs include:
- quick wash – express mode used for slightly soiled items (also called “daily wash”) and lasting on average from 14 to 35 minutes;
- shoes – it will take about 40 minutes to clean sneakers and sneakers;
- delicate mode - takes about 50 minutes and is used for items made of thin, delicate fabrics that require low temperatures and reduced spin speeds;
- synthetics - one of the types of delicate washing, but using higher temperatures and lasting about 1.5 hours;
- cotton - the longest mode, taking about two hours and intended for natural, dense fabrics;
- intensive mode - necessary for very dirty items, usually includes a pre-wash or soak option, which extends the operation of the device up to four hours.
Also, modern washing machines have a number of special modes. The program for large items makes it possible to clean rugs, blankets and outerwear at home, and the “children's mode” allows you not to worry about the quality of washing clothes for the youngest members of the family. Large items are washed on average for 1.5 hours, children’s items – 2-2.5 hours, as they must undergo additional rinsing.
