Is it possible to wash a synthetic blanket in a washing machine and how?
It’s quite easy to understand whether or not you can wash a synthetic blanket if there is a label with the designations left on it. But if the label is not preserved, and the blanket is already dirty, then you need to think twice before getting it wet. In this publication we will talk about washing padding polyester and give some recommendations for caring for blankets with padding polyester filling.
Features of the material
Sintepon is quite unpretentious, you can even soak it in cold water, and it will not suffer at all. True, you shouldn’t soak the synthetic padding polyester in hot water, rub it intensively and expose it to aggressive chemicals. A synthetic blanket can withstand gentle washing, either by hand or in a machine. The problem may arise elsewhere, namely in loading the washing machine drum.
The fact is that a dry blanket weighs relatively little and the owners of “home helpers” with a load of 5-6 kg, without even thinking, shove them into the drum and hope to wash them. Meanwhile, a wet synthetic blanket, while maintaining the same volume, weighs tens of times more. What does this mean? And this threatens to break the washing machine, because an overloaded drum when rotating (especially at high speeds) quickly becomes unbalanced, and the mechanism becomes unusable. What should you do before deciding to wash a blanket in a washing machine?
- Study the instructions for the machine, see if it can wash bulky items; if so, then its drum is most likely suitable for wet laundry with a large weight.
- An overloaded drum should not rotate at high speed, maximum 200-300 revolutions.
Important! Even if you own a washing machine with a large drum and a large load of 12-15 kg, these rules remain relevant for you.
- When washing a padding polyester blanket, be sure to turn off the spin and dry modes, since they will definitely destroy the padding polyester blanket.
Sintepon, being a synthetic fiber, is very similar in care to another filler - holofiber. About, how to wash a holofiber blanket in a washing machine, you can read in the publication of the same name on our website.
Instructions
If it is not difficult for your washing machine to wash a synthetic blanket, do it, but first study the recommendations of specialists so as not to inadvertently spoil something.
- Pull out and wash the powder receptacle; there should be no residues of powder or other detergent in it.
- Pour a little special detergent for washing padding polyester blankets into the powder receptacle.
- You can only wash a whole blanket; if there are holes in it, you need to sew them up, and then, after folding the blanket several times, twist it into a tube. Only after these procedures can you put the blanket in the drum.
- Close the hatch and set the appropriate washing mode. This could be “duvet”, “bulky items”, “gentle wash” or something similar. In this case, the main thing is that washing takes place in water no warmer than 400C, and the drum did not rotate too quickly.
- Turn off the “spin” and “dry” functions and start the washing program. If there is a “double rinse” function, you can set it, so it is better to remove the detergent from the padding polyester filler.
- When the washing program is completed, there is no need to suffer and remove the wet and heavy blanket from the drum. Let it sit in the drum for about 1 hour, during which time most of the water will drain.
For your information! When leaving the blanket in the drum to drain, be sure to open the hatch door so that the item does not suffocate and start to smell unpleasant.
Now all we have to do is dry the wet blanket, the washing is complete. Automatic washing of a synthetic blanket is an ideal situation. Very often everything happens differently, the machine has a small load, and the blanket is too large to shove into the washing drum. What to do in this case? You can wash a synthetic blanket by hand, this will require a lot of water and male muscular strength. What are we doing?
- We fill the bath with water at 30-40 degrees (about ¼, although everything will depend on the size of the blanket).
- Dissolve liquid blanket detergent in water.
- We sew up all the holes that can be found on the padding polyester blanket.
- Place the blanket in the bathroom so that it gets evenly wet and sinks.
- We distribute the item along the bottom of the bath more or less evenly.
- We climb into the bathroom and begin to trample on the blanket with our bare feet, but we need to do this carefully.
- After tramping around for 20-30 minutes, we get out of the bath and flush out the soapy water.
- Pour in cool water for rinsing, rinse the blanket, drain the water, and then fill it up again and rinse again, and so on 2-3 times.
- Let the water out of the bathroom and leave the drain open. Next, you need to wait 1 hour for some of the water from the blanket to drain into the drain.
- Now it will take muscle strength to pull the wet blanket out of the bathtub, drag it to the drying rack, and then spread it out on the drying rack.
How to dry?
Drying a blanket made of padding polyester is much easier than, for example, a blanket filled with down or holofiber. Synthetic winterizer filler is much less inclined to clump and stick together, but it is still better to follow simple instructions when drying a blanket made of such material.
First of all, experts consider drying the blanket in a horizontal position to be the best drying option. The best option would be if you take your home dryer out onto the terrace, lay it out, make sure it is in a stable position, and spread a wet synthetic blanket on it. In the hot summer outdoors, the blanket will dry in 4-6 hours.
It is not advisable to place a heater or other powerful heat sources near the dryer. However, if you have a fan heater, we can place it 2-3 meters from the dryer with a blanket and direct a stream of hot air onto the item.
Important! Approximately every hour you should go to the drying blanket and shake it. You will also have to turn the blanket over a couple of times, this will help the synthetic padding filler dry better and distribute more evenly inside.
In conclusion, we note that washing a padding polyester blanket in a machine is not such a difficult task, but only if your equipment is adapted for washing such things. If the washing machine does not fit the blanket, you can wash it by hand. This will take more effort, but the result will be better, the main thing is to dry the blanket correctly, otherwise all the work may go to waste. Good luck!
