What happens if you put foil balls in the washing machine?
Women know many secrets of housekeeping. One of them is to use foil balls when washing them in the washing machine. Many people are sure that this method helps to clean things more efficiently. Is this advice helpful? Can foil really improve laundry washing or is it just another “fake” advertised on social networks?
Purpose of the foil balls
What is the point of adding balls made from regular foil to the drum? It turns out that housewives knew and used them even before modern models of washing machines and effective household chemicals appeared on the market. Thanks to the foil, things became clean and soft after washing. In addition, it made it possible to get rid of static electricity.
Important! Popular advice: take a sheet of foil, roll it into a small ball and put it in the drum of the washing machine along with the laundry.
Foil balls perform several tasks at once:
- increasing the efficiency of washing without additional soaking and boiling due to mechanical effects on fabrics;
- reducing the consumption of detergents and, consequently, the cost of purchasing them;
- softening laundry;
- no streaks after rinsing;
- elimination of static electricity.
Foil balls are a simple and inexpensive way to improve the quality of your wash. They can be an alternative to expensive detergents and antistatic conditioners. The problem of static electricity is familiar to many housewives. Things made from some fabrics are so electrified that sparks can appear with one movement.The rim of the washing machine drum should remove the electricity. But he does not always cope with this task. Balloons can come to the rescue. The foil is made using aluminum, which removes static.
By adding balls to the drum, washing machine owners are concerned that they do not catch things and damage the equipment. These fears are unfounded. When washing items made of dense fabrics, such as terry towels, foil does not cause damage or deformation. Beads should be used with caution when cleaning items made from thin fabrics: silk, chiffon, lace. To prevent pieces of foil from falling off the lump, you can put it in a protective laundry bag.
Unusual items that improve laundry
In addition to lumps of foil, which housewives have known about for a long time, many devices are appearing to improve the quality of washing. One of them is a magnetic ball. Let's consider the properties and advantages of this item. Special laundry balls are made of rubber or plastic. Magnets are inserted inside the devices. They soften water by acting on the molecules of insoluble salts. They move chaotically and change shape. Manufacturers of magnetic balls claim the following advantages of their products:
- things are washed better, as it is easier for water to penetrate the fabric fibers;
- rotating in the drum of the washing machine along with the laundry, magnetic balls knock out particles of dirt and dust from it;
- products help to use laundry detergents more economically;
- The service life of magnetic balls is from 10 years. Some manufacturers claim that they can be used for 20 years or more;
- The use of magnetic balls does not pose a threat to human health.
An alternative to magnetic ones are tennis balls.They are usually used when cleaning down jackets. Several balls are placed in the drum of the washing machine at once. They break down the fluff and prevent the fillings from sticking together.
Note! Before you start washing clothes with tennis balls, you need to make sure that they do not fade.
Tennis balls can be placed in the drum not only for washing down jackets, but also for other things. This allows:
- make linen softer;
- protect them from the formation of pellets;
- improve the quality of washing without turning on additional operating modes of the machine or using detergents;
- reduce washing time by a quarter.
Another unusual item that improves washing is a regular wet wipe. If you put it in the drum along with your things, they can be better cleaned of wool, fluff, hair, and threads. It seems that wet wipes will not be able to cope with this task. But practice proves that the method works.
When the washing machine drum rotates, the napkin moves inside and collects lint and hair. Thus, things become cleaner, and most of the dirt remains on the scrap. In a similar way, you can use special anti-shedding wipes. They not only collect small particles, but also protect white and colored linen from staining. Using improvised washing devices, housewives are inventing new ways to improve the efficiency of washing. Sometimes the results of experiments are successful.
