Resetting the program on a Bosch dishwasher
Even the most budget Bosch dishwashers are of high build quality, so they rarely break down. Despite this, sometimes the technology fails, freezing during program execution. This could be caused by a power surge or even a clog inside the dishwasher.
What to do if the machine freezes? How to reset the program on a Bosch dishwasher? Can the problem be prevented? Let's look into the nuances.
Returning the PMM to factory settings
To revive a frozen dishwasher, you will have to reset it to factory settings. To do this, you need to perform a certain sequence of actions. It is important to strictly adhere to the order, otherwise it will not be possible to restart the PMM.
First of all, you need to slightly open the PMM door to gain access to the buttons on the control panel. Bosch clippers will not stop working after this, so be careful not to let water spill onto the floor. Also keep in mind that hot steam will begin to come out of the hopper, so do not lean close to the “home assistant.”
The further algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- press the “Start” button and hold it until the “Active” indicator goes out (if you need to stop the program, do not release the button until the LED stops lighting, indicating that the PMM is on);
- wait a few minutes - during this time the water from the system will drain into the sewer;
- hold down the “Start” button for another 3 seconds. Some models of Bosch dishwashers may have a separate “Reset” key, then you need to use it;
- wait until the dishwasher display shows 00:00, this will indicate the end of the cycle;
- turn off the machine by unplugging the power cord from the outlet;
- wait a minute;
- plug the power cord into the socket;
- Press the Start and Power keys at the same time.
The following steps will help you restart your Bosch dishwasher and remove all errors from its memory. After this, you can restart the desired program. If the buttons on the control panel do not respond to pressing, the PMM is restarted in another way. We'll tell you what to do in this case.
We remove the program when the buttons do not work
It happens that the machine freezes while executing a program and does not want to respond to user commands. The instrument panel becomes insensitive to pressure. In this case, you will have to act differently.
First you need to turn off the power to the dishwasher. Make sure it is dry before unplugging the power cord. If the wire is wet, do not touch it under any circumstances, otherwise you may receive an electric shock. Turn off the power supply by turning off the fuses on the panel.
After turning off the power to the dishwasher, move it away from the wall or remove it from the furniture set. Look at the back of the housing and the hoses. All elements must be dry. Next, make sure that there is no standing water behind the PMM.
After this, leave the machine to “settle” for 20-30 minutes. An emergency disconnection of the dishwasher from the power supply will reset the settings saved in the PMM memory. Next, you can set new cycle parameters.
If the problem is not due to some kind of malfunction, then after rebooting the dishwasher will again respond to key presses.
Often Bosch dishwashers stop responding to commands when error E15 appears on the display. This code indicates that water has entered the sensor installed in the pan of the washing machine. You can get out of this situation by quickly resetting the system. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- disconnect the PMM from the network;
- check the integrity of the hoses and pipes of the dishwasher;
- make sure there are no leaks;
- tilt the machine towards the wall for 15-20 seconds;
- reconnect the dishwasher to the mains.
In this way, you can restore the functionality of the Bosch PMM. If after all the manipulations you cannot “unlock” the machine, you will have to turn to a specialist for help. The specialist will perform an in-depth diagnosis and tell you the reason for this behavior of the “home assistant”. The problem may be a damaged control module.
Software failure is better prevented
It is better to prevent any problem than to solve it later. This also applies to dishwashers. Compliance with basic recommendations and operating rules will help prevent problems and failures in the PMM.
Be sure to read the instructions for the Bosch PMM, they contain the basic rules for operating the equipment.
Dishwasher manufacturer Bosch recommends:
- monitor the quality of tap water entering the device. If it is too hard, it will affect the condition of the internal elements of the dishwasher. The parts will be covered with scale, and this will significantly shorten the “lifespan” of the PMM;
- periodically clean the filter unit from debris accumulated in it, and also remove dirt from the rocker arms that spray water;
- Use only high-quality detergents for washing dishes.When choosing 3 in 1 or 5 in 1 tablets, first make sure whether your PMM is designed for the use of a similar form of the product;
- do not exceed the dosage of detergents, adding compounds in the quantities provided by the device;
- Carefully study the instructions for the equipment before putting the machine into operation. It is important to understand how to load dishes correctly, where to add salt, and add rinse aid;
- connect the dishwasher to the electrical network through a stabilizer. The device will protect the machine from power surges and surges, and other failures. After all, this is what most often leads to the PMM “freezing”;
- Periodically rinse the inside of the dishwasher by running a high-temperature cycle on idle with a special cleaning agent;
- constantly ventilate the dishwasher to prevent the appearance of an unpleasant odor, as well as protect the hopper from corrosive processes;
- After each use, wipe the walls of the PMM washing chamber dry;
- Periodically clean the dishwasher drain hose.
Compliance with basic rules will help extend the life of the dishwasher and protect it from system failures. Be sure to connect the PMM to the power supply through a stabilizer. The electronic module is quite sensitive to voltage changes and may fail if the lights in the house are suddenly turned off.
Common causes of Bosch PMM failures
Rebooting the Bosch PMM will help reset a random system error. If the problem is a real breakdown, then restarting either will not solve the problem or will only “silence” it for a short time. In such a situation, you will need to diagnose the dishwasher, find the “weak spot” and repair the machine.
Most often, Bosch dishwashers stop working due to:
- sudden surges in power supply;
- clogged garbage filter, drain hose or internal pipes;
- lack of water in the pipes;
- clogged sewer pipe;
- Incorrect position of the inlet or drain hose.
If the machine freezes for one of these reasons, then rebooting will “reanimate” the dishwasher. After this, the user will need to fix the problem, for example, clean the garbage filter, or correctly position the drain hose. Then the operation of the PMM will be restored.
In some cases, the help of a specialist may be required. We are talking about more serious malfunctions:
- breakdown of the inlet valve responsible for supplying water to the system;
- damage to the circulation pump;
- failure of the heating element;
- breakdown of the pressure switch;
- malfunctions in the operation of the main control module.
Bosch machines often freeze when the Aquastop system is activated. Therefore, inspect the dishwasher inlet hose; if its indicator changes color, it means there is a leak. It cannot be repaired; the element will have to be replaced.
Most Bosch PMM problems can be resolved on your own. For example, following the instructions, it is easy to replace the fill valve, circulation pump, heating element or pipes. Most often, the help of a specialist is required precisely when the electronic unit is damaged - repairing the module requires certain knowledge, skills and experience.
