Why do things shrink in the dryer?
Modern dryers are designed in such a way that they do not harm clothes, but ensure that they dry as gently as possible. If, after being in the washing drum, things shrink, then this is a sign of a violation of any operating rules. For example, the wrong mode may be selected or laundry may be placed in the appliance that cannot be dried in this manner. The risk of malfunctions cannot be excluded. Let's consider all possible situations.
What can cause things to become deformed?
The reasons why things shrink in the dryer can be very diverse. In this regard, I would like to recall the basic rules for using such technology. This will allow you to figure out where the mistake was made and how to avoid such problems.
- It is allowed to place only laundry that has been well wrung out in the dryer drum. By setting the spin speed on the washing machine to at least 1000 revolutions (the higher it is, the better), you can reduce the period of time the items are in the drying unit. Accordingly, the time of its negative impact will decrease. If completely wet items are placed in the machine, moisture will be removed at an extremely rapid rate, which can cause deformation of the material.
- It is important to carefully study the labels of clothing items that are sent to dryers. Do not allow clothes that cannot withstand drying to enter the drum. The label contains instructions whether the product can be dried, in what mode, and at what temperature. If the temperature is excessively high, things will shrink. This also applies to products and cotton, which in most cases are placed in the dryer automatically.
- Monitor the loading of the machine. Many housewives strive to dry more clothes at the same time, sometimes exceeding the permissible limits. However, in the case of a large load, the quality of drying decreases and moisture from the material may be removed unevenly. As a result, products may be greatly reduced in size. We encounter this problem quite often.
- Drying mode. Modern models have programs for various fabrics, so when choosing a mode you should be guided by what clothes will be loaded. If you do not take this point into account, the material may shrink or deteriorate.
- Remember to sort your laundry before putting it in the drum. Quite often, housewives wash wardrobe items made from different materials together. However, it is not advisable to dry such things together.
It is best to sort the products, since different types of fabrics require different drying conditions; if these requirements are not met, then some of them may shrink.
How else do things spoil in the dryer?
There are frequent cases of damage to decorative inserts in the dryer. High temperatures can lead to deformation or complete destruction of buttons, zippers, snaps, sad pictures and other parts. For example, if a sweater or jacket has a plastic zipper, then after drying it can become deformed to such an extent that it can no longer be zipped. They do not tolerate high temperatures and printed pictures that decorate T-shirts and other clothing. They stick together and then can simply come off.Glued rhinestones or sparkles may come off and then stick to another product. What to do if you need to dry just such an item?
Read the instructions carefully; in some cases, it is enough to select the correct mode or turn the “capricious” item of clothing inside out.
And one more important point - send only clean things to dry. You should never try to dry an item from which a stain has simply been removed. This can lead to disastrous results. For example, under the influence of high temperatures, there is a high risk of ignition of contaminant residues if they were left behind by flammable substances.
A similar effect is possible when solvents or other special liquids were used to remove stains. Foam materials are also highly flammable, so items that use such fabrics as insulation must be dried with extreme caution.
