What mode should I use to wash a jacket in an LG washing machine?
With the onset of cold weather, jackets and down jackets become an integral part of the daily look. While adults' outerwear can be washed less often, children's jackets need to be cleaned almost every week. Is there a special mode for washing jackets in the LG washing machine? We’ll look at how to choose the optimal cleaning program below.
Should you choose your mode carefully?
Some people probably think that jackets don't require any special care when cleaning. This opinion is wrong. If you wash a jacket by setting the wrong parameters, you can cause stains to appear on the product, the filling to roll off, and the item to completely lose its appearance.
Some down jackets are strictly prohibited from washing in automatic machines; information about this restriction is usually presented on the product label.
Many modern washing machines provide programs that allow you to easily remove stains from outerwear. Washing machine users LG, having loaded a jacket into the drum, can launch one of the modes: “Down blanket” or “Volume items”. If the second program is stored in the memory of individual models of machines, then the mode for cleaning down products will definitely be found.
Please note that the down jacket will take quite a long time to wash. It is also advisable to set the additional rinse function so that the powder is completely washed out of the fabric. It is important not to overdo it with the drum speed when setting the “Spin”. Its rotation speed should not exceed 800 rpm, otherwise the item may be damaged. As for the washing temperature, it is better to limit it to 40 °C.
You can try running the “Delicate Wash”. This program is convenient because it allows you to set custom washing parameters. You can independently set the water heating temperature and the drum rotation speed during spinning.
Before washing
Like any clothing, the jacket must be prepared for washing in an automatic machine. Then the cleaning process will go without any complaints. Before loading items into the drum:
- make sure there is nothing in your pockets. Be sure to remove any foreign objects found in the jacket;
- Inspect the down jacket for difficult stains. Usually the cuffs and collar of the product are the most contaminated. Before loading into the machine, rub the problem areas with laundry detergent;
- turn the jacket inside out. Be sure to fasten the locks, snaps, buttons on the item;
- check that there are no holes on the jacket where the filling could escape. If such zones are detected, it is better to abandon the idea of automatic washing;
- unfasten the fur trim and hood, if possible.
It is recommended to put several special balls into the drum at the same time as the jacket. They will prevent the filler from rolling off during the washing process. A couple of tennis balls are also suitable as a “shake-up”.
These balls are absolutely safe for washing machines. The vast majority of LG washing machines handle sneakers without problems, and shoes are much bulkier and heavier than tennis balls. Having prepared well for washing, you will not have to worry about the safety of the product.
Drying correctly
To successfully wash a jacket, it is not enough just to select a washing program with optimal cleaning parameters: low temperature, low speed.You also need to know how to handle the jacket after removing it from the drum. Proper drying of the product will preserve the appearance of the item and its properties. After cleaning, follow these guidelines:
- unfasten zippers, decorative locks, buttons and snaps;
- turn the item back right side out;
- Turn the pockets out. This way they will dry much faster;
- hang your jacket on hangers. This will help avoid deformation of the product;
- beat the item well, straightening the inner filler.
It is safer to dry your down jacket by laying it on a horizontal surface, but this will take longer to dry.
When drying the product vertically, you should not forget about several rules. Do not leave items in close proximity to heating appliances. This can ruin the appearance of the jacket by damaging the outer fabric.
It is better to position the hanger with the jacket so that air enters the item from all sides. If hangers are hung near the wall, air access to the down jacket will be blocked and the insulation of the product may be blocked. Down or padding outerwear should not be ironed. Use a steamer to straighten the fabric.
