What program should I use to wash curtains in an LG washing machine?
Curtains not only perform a practical function in the house, but also act as a decorative element. They are selected depending on the room, taking into account the color of the wallpaper, lighting, furniture and so on. But maintaining beauty in the house requires sacrifice, and from time to time it is necessary to wash the curtains, as grease and dirt settle on them, and the fabric absorbs odors. Let's figure out which washing machine mode is suitable for washing curtains.
General rule
Curtains should not be washed in hot water, so the optimal washing temperature does not exceed 40 degrees. As a detergent, you need to choose a liquid option - something that dissolves well in cool water. The surface of the curtains is quite large, and they often weigh quite a bit, so you need a program with as much water as possible, long enough and with not too intense rotation of the drum.
The “Delicate” and “Hand Wash” modes on an LG washing machine are perfect for the above parameters. Almost all LG washing machines are equipped with these programs. It is also advisable to adjust the spin manually. Thick curtains can be spun at a speed of no more than 800 revolutions, and on thin fabrics you can turn it off altogether or limit it to 400 revolutions.
Curtains made of organza or artificial silk
Curtains made of real silk fabric or artificial silk look very expensive and beautiful, but only with proper care. If you wash, say, organza with ordinary loose detergent powder, the fabric will lose its shine, and streaks and stains will remain on it. It is better to use liquid detergents or washing gels.
What are the basic requirements for washing such fabrics?
- Cold water (temperature about 30 degrees).
- The most delicate program on a washing machine or even hand washing.
- Additional rinse available.
- It is better to wash curtains in a laundry bag or pillowcase to avoid damage.
After washing, organza can be immediately hung on the curtain rod, but tulle and silk must first be dried in a horizontal position and thoroughly steamed with an iron.
Linen or cotton curtains
Cotton and linen are the least demanding natural fabrics and can withstand less delicate conditions. Cotton can be washed with absolutely any powder, preferably at a temperature of 40 degrees.
Attention! Linen fabric can easily withstand washing in water at 60 degrees. However, it is better to use liquid detergent.
In rare cases, cotton curtains may shrink, so if the stains are heavy, it is better to wash them by hand. Both linen and cotton are ironed while they are still slightly damp from washing.
Viscose or acrylic curtains
Acrylic and viscose are synthetic fabrics; they are very soft, delicate and airy, but require delicate and frequent care. As for taffeta, faux taffeta can be machine washed, but natural taffeta is better dry cleaned. She is not afraid of hot water, but she is very afraid of spinning and the standard, “careless” mode.
To wash such fabrics, it is better to use cool water (40 degrees), delicate cycle or hand wash using a special detergent for delicate and capricious fabrics. You can’t even wring out such curtains manually; you need to wait until the water disappears on its own or wring only through a layer of sheets.
Curtains made of satin or nylon
As for satin fabric, visually it is very similar to silk, but it is noteworthy that after washing it almost completely retains its shape and does not wrinkle at all. The threads from which satin is made are smooth and extremely thin. To wash this fabric you will need:
- select manual mode;
- add washing powder;
- Before washing, soak the curtains with liquid stain remover or dishwashing detergent.
With nylon there is much more hassle, since dust settles on it, and you have to wash the curtains many times more often.
Important! First, you need to clean the nylon from dust with your hands, then soak it in a soda solution for an hour and a half, and then wash it strictly by hand with the addition of detergent and rinse thoroughly.
Curtains, thread or roller
Curtains made from individual threads look very modern, expensive and interesting. But the problem is, how to clean them? You won’t wipe each thread separately. To avoid tangling of the threads, they are tied into a braid or simply tied with an elastic band and placed in a bag or pillowcase. Then the resulting sack is washed either by hand or in a machine on a program that takes minimal time, in a delicate mode. You can squeeze the braid out a little with your fingers, but in general the threads can be immediately hung on the cornice even when wet, they will dry on their own.
As for roller blinds, they are dry cleaned only. If there are stains, they can be removed with a regular high-quality school eraser. If the stains are more serious, you can use wet wipes.
- Lightly moisten the dirty area with water, but under no circumstances allow the material to become very wet.
- After this, rub a damp cloth over the stain without rubbing.
If you still can’t remove the stains, you’ll have to go to a dry cleaner. LG washing machines are equipped with at least one, or even several delicate modes. As they say, for every taste and color. The main thing is not to forget that curtains made from almost any fabric can be washed in a machine, then they must be washed very carefully. If you follow all the recommendations, you won’t have to revive your favorite curtains or buy new ones: yours will serve you and decorate your home for a very long time.
