Repair of Siemens washing machine faults

Siemens washing machineWashing machines from the German company Siemens are of high quality and reliability. Under normal operating conditions, they can last up to 10 years without breakdowns. But, like any technology, these machines also have their weaknesses, which can appear at the most inopportune moment. Knowing the typical breakdowns, you can diagnose them yourself and repair Siemens washing machines.

Typical breakdowns

German washing machines are truly distinguished by the high quality of all components. Service center technicians note that compared to other washing machine manufacturers, Siemens machines have the most reliable motors, control modules and bearings. These parts break extremely rarely. Among the weaknesses, the following faults were identified:

  • After the end of the wash, the water does not leave, the program does not go into either the rinse mode or the spin mode. In this case, the most likely reason for the machine stopping is a breakdown or severe clogging of the drain pump.
  • water is collected and immediately drained. In this case, the fill valve is faulty. In this case, water may leak out from under the powder tray.
  • water leak. Usually water seeps under the machine or around the drum door, the reason for this is weakening/breaking of the pipes or wear of the cuff.
  • The water doesn't heat up. In almost all cases, the cause is a burnt heating element.
  • Strong vibration of the machine during washing and spinning, accompanied by knocking. In such situations, experts recommend checking wear dampers and shock absorbers.

Replacing pipes and drain pump

Replacing the pipes and drain pump is perhaps the most difficult job of the frequently occurring faults we have listed. The fact is that in German Siemens washing machines the pump can only be accessed through the front cover, and for this you will have to disassemble almost the entire machine yourself. Prepare a free workplace, a set of screwdrivers, pliers and get to work:

  1. Remove the clamp holding the cuff and remove the cuff from the front wall.
  2. We remove the powder tray from the machine, and behind it we unscrew the screw holding the front wall.
  3. We remove the lower part of the machine body and unscrew a couple more screws under it.

Important! Don't forget to drain the remaining water from the machine by unscrewing the drain filter.

  4. Unscrew the screws holding the pump.
  5. Carefully remove the control panel to the side so as not to damage the wires.
  6. Disconnect the wires going to the drum door.
  7. Remove the front wall of the machine.

  • disconnect all wires;
  • disconnect the pipe connecting the pump and the tank;
  • disconnect the drain hose.

The pump is checked for blockages and performance. If it is in good condition, then wash the volute, the pipes and reassemble everything in the reverse order. If the pump malfunctions, you need to purchase a similar one and replace it.

Replacing the fill valve

fill valveThere can be many reasons for the failure of the filling valve of a washing machine, from poor quality water to wear. One way or another, this part will have to be changed, since in 99% of cases its repair is not practical. How to replace the fill valve of a Siemens washing machine with your own hands?

  • First, disconnect the washing machine from the water supply and electrical communications.
  • Unscrew the inlet hose from the washing machine.
  • Take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the fasteners of the top cover of the machine.
  • In the place where the inlet hose fits, there is an inlet valve installed, several wires with terminals go to it, they need to be disconnected.
  • Disconnect the pipe from the fill valve.
  • Unscrew the fastenings of the filler valve and remove it.
  • We put a new valve in its place, connect the wires and pipe, and put the top cover of the machine in place. Fill valve replacement is complete.

Important! On some models of Siemens washing machines, the valve is additionally held in place by a plastic plug. It is easy to remove using a flathead screwdriver.

How to replace the sunroof cuff

cuff in the washing machineYou can replace the cuff on a Siemens washing machine without removing the tank. To do this yourself, you need to have patience and skill. You only need to buy the same cuff, otherwise the seal may be compromised. So, replacing the cuff is carried out as follows:

  1. Remove the metal clamp that holds the cuff on the front wall of the machine.
  2. We remove the front wall; we have already told you how to do this.
  3. Disconnect the pipe coming from the powder receiver.
  4. Use a marker to mark the position of the cuff.
  5. Remove the cuff from the tank.
  6. We take a new cuff and put it on the drum in a circle.
  7. Connect the hose.
  8. Screw the front wall.
  9. We put the cuff on the front wall.
  10. We put on the collar.

The water does not heat up: change the heating element

Hard water and frequent use of the washing machine can lead to failure of the heating element.

And then washing will be carried out in cold water, which will reduce its effectiveness. In some machine models, if the heating element fails, the washing may not start at all, and the machine display will show error code.

heating element in the washing machineIn German washing machines, the heating element is located behind the front wall under the tub. Removing this wall is not difficult, the main thing is to unscrew all the screws. Having removed the front part of the housing, we check the heating element for functionality using a multimeter. If it is faulty, we will replace it.

  1. Unscrew the nut located in the center of the heating element base.
  2. We remove the wires and turn off the temperature sensor.
  3. Using rocking movements from side to side, we pull the heating element towards us.
  4. We take a new heating element and insert it into the socket, having previously cleaned it of debris and scale particles.
  5. Then we connect the wires strictly to the contacts as they were. Therefore, it is better to take a photo before disconnecting anything.
  6. Tighten the nut.

To summarize, we note that we have listed only the most common breakdowns of a Siemens washing machine. Other malfunctions may also occur; in particular, during sudden voltage surges, the control module may burn out, especially if there is no proper protection. After long-term use, oil seals, bearings, and brushes in the engine may wear out.

Such repairs of Siemens washing machines can be done with your own hands, but it will require more free time, tools and strong nerves. Therefore, most often in such cases they contact the service center.

Hello, what if the water is not spun out from time to time and the pump is not clogged?
