AEG dishwasher repair
AEG dishwashers assembled in Poland have recently caused criticism from experts. There was even a small advertising (or rather anti-advertising) campaign launched against these machines. In fact, this is nothing more than a manifestation of competition. These washing machines were and remain of very high quality, as eloquently evidenced by the statistics of service centers. Repair of AEG dishwashers is rarely required, and the list of typical breakdowns that occur with this equipment is very short. Let's discuss this.
What to do if an error appears?
It’s not uncommon for AEG dishwasher users to rush to call the service center as soon as one or another system error appears on the display. There is no need to panic ahead of time; perhaps this is not a breakdown at all, just a short-term glitch has occurred in the electronics of the machine, which can be eliminated by rebooting. What should be done?
- Press the button responsible for the power supply and turn off the machine.
- Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
- Wait about 15-20 minutes.
- Turn on the machine and try to start the washing program.
To be sure, you can repeat the reboot 2-3 times.
There is a high probability that the error code will disappear and will not return. If the error appears on the screen again, you need to decipher it and try to look for the reason for its appearance.
Typical defects
As we have already noted, there are few typical faults with AEG machines, but they can also cause a lot of trouble, so the user should know in advance what he will encounter. We list these typical defects.
- All sorts of problems with the drain pump, including its clogging and complete failure.
- Incorrect operation of the intake valve. Its coil may burn out or it may become clogged. Its power supply may also be disrupted.
- Pollution and blockages of various natures, which in 90% of cases arise due to the fault of the user.
In general, we have decided on the list of defects, now we need to sort them out. You need to decide how to get to this or that part, how to check it and repair it, if at all possible, because in some cases only replacement helps.
Incorrect operation of the drain pump
The behavior of the AEG dishwasher pump may vary. It can hum, but does not drain water. It may show no signs of working at all. It can also drain water, but it does so too slowly. Each problem is indicated by its own error code, but one way or another you need to get to the pump, remove it and study it. How to do it?
- We turn off the power and disconnect the equipment from all communications.
- We drag the machine out into the middle of the kitchen.
- We unscrew the fasteners holding the right and left walls of the case.
- We remove the walls.
- Having gained full access to the contents of the pan, remove the pump by first unhooking its wires.
The space between the washing chamber and the tray is enough to allow you to work with almost all the parts below.
- We check the part with an ohmmeter, if it is working, we also check the wiring.
- If the pump burns out, the defect can only be eliminated by replacing the part.
If the ohmmeter shows no problems with the pump's electrical system, you need to carefully inspect it. Physical damage or contamination can also negatively affect the performance of the part. Hair and threads often wrap around the impeller, slowing down its rotation. All this needs to be cleaned, then you will give the parts a new life.
Intake valve dysfunction
The inlet valve is responsible for supplying water to the dishwasher. At the command of the control module, the valve opens and closes, supplying the machine with as much water as needed, accurate to the tenth of a liter. If water does not flow into the AEG machine, you need to check the inlet valve coil. If the coil is functioning, you need to see how well the valve opens and closes, and whether it allows water to pass through. If the slightest problem is detected, the valve must be replaced without pity.
If the valve does not work, but the check did not reveal any problems, you need to inspect the wiring that powers this part and ensures its communication with the control module. Broken wires should be replaced. You also need to check the control board itself and its software. It is possible that the valve malfunction is of an electronic nature.
Dirt and blockages
Blockages can quickly become the bane of an AEG dishwasher if the user does not take care of his “home assistant” and does not follow the rules for its operation. By not cleaning dishes before placing them in baskets, the user will quickly contribute to the contamination of the garbage filter. This will cause the water to stop circulating, and the machine will stop right there with water. This type of problem can be easily resolved by cleaning the garbage filter. How to do this is described in the article Replacing and cleaning the dishwasher filter, now we will not focus on this.
But it's not just a clogged garbage filter that can create a serious problem. If you do not ensure that there is always salt in the AEG machine, the ion exchanger will quickly fail. As soon as this happens, within six months the washing machine will begin to become overgrown with limescale from the inside.Limescale deposits will cause blockages inside the dishwasher and the equipment will end up in a landfill.
Your $900 will go down the drain. So you need to keep an eye on the machine and give the equipment a thorough cleaning every 3 months.
Another problem may be a clogged flow filter located on the inlet valve. The water in the water supply is not entirely clean. It contains grains of sand and various small debris that accumulate on the flow filter and, over time, a blockage occurs. To prevent this from happening, every 4-6 months you need to unscrew the inlet hose, pull out the mesh and clean it. Then you will avoid problems with clogging.
So, we have described the most common defects of AEG dishwashers. We told you why these defects occur and how to eliminate them yourself. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments or on our forum. We hope we have provided you with useful information. Good luck!
