Zanussi dishwasher repair
Equipment under the Zanussi brand has Italian roots. As for dishwashers of this brand, the domestic market offers mainly Chinese-assembled models. Therefore, there is no need to talk about quality, but it is also impossible to say that these are completely unreliable dishwashers. All machines have shortcomings that lead to breakdowns and repairs. Therefore, we will discuss typical malfunctions of Zanussi dishwashers and figure out how to fix them and carry out repairs yourself.
Causes of water leaks
One of the main problems that occurs with Zanussi dishwashers is water leakage. In washing machine models equipped with the Aquastop protection system and display, error code i30 appears. In some cases, there is no error, but water still flows out from under the machine. The reasons for such a breakdown may be:
- tank crack;
- rupture of the drain hose;
- weakness of the connecting clamp;
- water supply valve jamming in the “open” position.
Replacing the tank in a dishwasher with your own hands is very difficult, so this work should be entrusted to a professional. It is unlikely that you will want to completely disassemble the entire dishwasher, littering the kitchen with parts.
But replacing the hose and clamps is quite a feasible job. The hose may crack over time, causing holes to appear in it. To replace it you need:
- disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply;
- close the water supply tap;
- disconnect the drain hose from the water supply and from the machine;
- connect and securely fasten the new hose.
The water supply valve is located immediately behind the entry point of the inlet hose into the machine body. In the model in the photo it is at the bottom of the dishwasher at the back. First, the solenoid valve is checked with an ohmmeter for functionality; if there is no resistance, it must be replaced with a new one.
There is no water drainage: troubleshooting
Water may remain in the dishwasher for several reasons. The first of them is associated with severe clogged filters, as a result of which water does not flow from the washing chamber into the water tank. This problem occurs not only in Zanussi dishwashers, but also in machines of other brands, and all due to the fact that users neglect a simple rule: remove leftover food from the dishes before loading them into the basket. In very rare cases, a blockage occurs due to a foreign object getting into the filter and pump, for example, a piece of glass from a broken glass inside the machine.
For your information! If your Zanussi dishwasher does not drain, error code i20 may appear on the display.
The second reason for this malfunction is more serious and is associated with pump failure. The main symptom of its failure is the absence of characteristic noise. Therefore, if you listen to the operation of the machine, you will be able to understand whether the pump is broken or a blockage has occurred, since if there is a blockage, the pump still hums. Repairing a machine when it is clogged comes down to completely cleaning it, which is not very difficult to do yourself, We described this procedure in detail in the article How to clean a dishwasher yourself.
Repairs to replace the pump in a Zanussi dishwasher can cost from $20 to $40, which can be quite significant for the family budget. Therefore, you can try to replace it yourself using instructions for replacing the pump using the example of other dishwashers, especially since their design is largely similar.
Changing the heating element
When the heating element fails, various symptoms are possible, so you need to take a closer look at them.
- If the heating element burns out completely, the water will stop heating, and at the end of the wash you will see unwashed and wet dishes.
- When the heating element contacts burn out, in some cases the water heats up, but the electrical circuit breaker is knocked out. Sometimes there is even a smell of insulation. This is quite dangerous and can short circuit the electrical wires inside the machine.
In both cases, the heating element will have to be completely replaced, since this part of the dishwasher cannot be repaired. Of course, the contacts of the heating element can be re-soldered, but such a repair cannot be called reliable and safe. To change the heating element you need to:
- unscrew the bottom bar of the case; in some models it can be removed without removing the side panels;
- use a multimeter to check and make sure that the heating element is faulty;
- remove the disposable clamps and disconnect the heating element;
- install a new heating element, original production.
For your information! Carrying out this work falls into the category of medium complexity; repairs can cost $15–35, plus the cost of a heating element for Zanussi dishwashers, which is another $30–45.
The control module has failed
A faulty dishwasher control module may also be the cause of knocked-out electrical plugs. In addition, if the control module does not work correctly, this may affect some programs. The dishwasher may not dry dishes well or may freeze during a program. In this situation, the following repairs are possible:
- “flashing” of the existing control module;
- installation of a new spare part.
You can reinstall the control module of a Zanussi dishwasher yourself; to do this, you need to disassemble the dishwasher door. Then carefully remove the faulty board, disconnecting all wires and sensors and connect a new one. As for the “firmware”, only a master who deals with electronics can handle this, so it is better to entrust this work to him, everyone should mind their own business. Repairs to replace the control module from different specialists cost between $25-40, the price of spare parts is not included in this amount.
So, if your Zanussi dishwasher malfunctions, do not rush to panic and call a technician. Sometimes you can fix everything yourself. But if you don’t understand technology at all or something seems too much to you, then, of course, you shouldn’t break the dishwasher. This will only make the job more difficult for the person who is going to fix it.
