DIY Samsung dishwasher repair
Samsung technology is highly respected in our country, and in the world in general. TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, and so much more are produced under the Samsung brand. In particular, this company produces a whole line of dishwashers of fairly high quality. But, like any equipment, these machines have weaknesses, which we will definitely talk about when we discuss the repair of Samsung dishwashers.
What breaks most often in these dishwashers?
Freestanding and built-in Samsung dishwashers have similar typical faults. Some defects are typical for most dishwashers, and some are more common only on Samsung appliances, one way or another, let’s list them.
- Firstly, these are various blockages. Typically, the debris filter and intake valve filter are the most likely to become clogged.
- Secondly, there are problems with the filling valve. The inlet valves on Samsung dishwashers are not very reliable, this is recognized by many experts. In turn, this caused frequent breakdowns of this part.
More often than not, it is not even the intake valve mechanism itself that breaks down, but its electrics.
- Thirdly, there are problems with the drain pump, which often breaks down in most dishwasher models.
- And finally, fourthly, it is necessary to mention the defects of the flow-through heating element. Problems with water heating are a record-breaking defect in Samsung dishwashers. Heating elements break very often and have to be replaced because they cannot be repaired.
Here is such a not too large list that we have to discuss today. Let's try to do this.
Clearing clogged filters
Filters are a typical problem with any dishwasher, including Samsung ones. In fact, blockages can be easily avoided if you properly, and most importantly, timely care for your “home assistant,” but only a few do this. Thank you that at least someone looks at the instructions and reads that dirty dishes must be cleaned of food residues before putting them in baskets. Many don't do this either.
Where can the garbage filter not become clogged and create problems for the user? The symptom of a clogged garbage filter is as follows. The water stops leaving the machine, it freezes and stops working. The error occurs approximately in the first 15-20 minutes of the program. What to do?
- Carefully open the machine door and remove the dish basket located below.
- We collect dirty water with a rag, which may remain in some quantity at the bottom of the washing chamber.
- We remove the lower sprinkler, which is held on by a plastic latch.
- We take our hand to the garbage filter, which stands next to the mesh at the bottom of the washing chamber and turn it counterclockwise half a turn.
- We take out both the mesh and the filter, and then rinse these parts under running warm water.
Use dishwashing detergent to clean the filter, as the filter membrane may be coated with a layer of grease that does not allow water to pass through.
If the water drains from the machine normally, but there are problems with the fill, the flow filter, which is located at the inlet of the inlet valve, may be clogged. How to clean it yourself? First you need to turn off the water. Then you need to unscrew the inlet hose and check it for blockages. If the hose itself is clean, we find a small plastic mesh at the base of the inlet valve, remove it and check it. Very often, a layer of limescale forms on this mesh, which prevents water from passing under sufficient pressure into the dishwasher.
After cleaning the mesh, we put it in place, and then screw on the inlet hose and open the water. By the way, blockages can also be located in the back of the dishwasher. Yes, such blockages are difficult to reach, but there is a solution. Need to use dishwasher cleaning products. All you have to do is run the machine idle with this product once a month, and problems with blockages will leave you forever.
Replacing the filling valve
If water does not flow into the dishwasher at all, and there are no blockages inside, the problem may be that the inlet valve is not working. We need to check. First, let's disconnect the dishwasher from the electricity and water lines, and then take it out somewhere where it will be convenient to work with it. Next you need to unscrew the right side wall and move the sound insulation to the side.
Once this is successful, all the main parts of the dishwasher will open in front of you, including the inlet valve. We disconnect the wires from it and check the electrics using a conventional device called a multimeter. As already mentioned, on Samsung washing machines the intake valve electric light often lights up; if you find this during the inspection, change the valve. We buy a new part, unscrew the old one and screw the new one in its place, nothing complicated there.
How to change the drain pump?
The pump is also easy to detect if you remove the side wall of the Samsung PMM. It is possible to repair the pump if a defect occurs, but this is a tedious task, and “it’s not worth the candle,” it’s easier to replace it.The pump should be checked by visual inspection and with a multimeter. Particular attention to the impeller. When installing a new pump, you need to connect the wires correctly, so novice craftsmen are advised to take photographs of how the old part is installed, so as not to confuse anything due to inexperience.
The old pump is removed by turning it counterclockwise. The new one is installed by turning it clockwise. It doesn't seem to be too complicated either. If the drain pump is in normal condition, you need to check the supply wiring; it is possible that this is the problem.
Solving heater problems
A burnt heating element will manifest itself in that the machine will try to wash the dishes in cold water. The situation with a heater breakdown is unpleasant because a new part is quite expensive. Replacing it will not create difficulties even for someone who has never seen the inside of a dishwasher. What should be done? How to fix this problem?
- Remove both side walls of the Samsung dishwasher and remove the sound insulation.
- You will see the heating element immediately, as it is fixed between two thick black pipes.
- We remove the supply wires from the part and check the resistance of the heating element. If the multimeter shows 30 ohms, then the part is working; if the value tends to zero, the heating element must be changed.
- Unscrew the clamps and remove the old heater.
- We put a new one in its place and connect the wiring correctly.
- We assemble the machine in reverse order and check its operation.
So, repairing a Samsung dishwasher yourself is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. It depends on what kind of defect you have to deal with.If the control module is intact and something else is broken, you can undertake repairs, but if the defect is in the electronics, it is better to trust a professional. Good luck!
Good day. The temperature sensor on my dishwasher went bad, I looked through the entire Internet and even went to the Samsung service center, but I can’t find a new sensor anywhere. What should I do? Maybe you can help me. Thank you in advance for your help.
Good afternoon Please tell me the washing machine won't start right away. It beeps several times and works! The electricity was cut off. The filter is clean. Everything is fine. But it doesn't start right away.
